Myself and a few choice companions spent a lovely day in Lucca. We came to Allosteria on a recommendation from a family friend.
I was quite impressed when we walked into Allosteria. The decor inside is elegant, tasteful and lovely all around.
We were seated quickly, ordered some house wine and began to scour the menu for today's Tuscan lunch.
I decided to try out the Ravioli Ripieni di cozze, which was a mussel and potato ravioli served with green beans and tomato, my husband opted for the Polpo in Crema, and our friend chose the Tordello lucchese, which looked like large round raviolis stuffed with meat and then covered in a meat sauce.
My raviolis turned out to be quite fishy, and I was only able to finish them with a great deal of parmesan on top.
My husband's octopus was perfectly tender, but was not properly cleaned and the soup like base lacked flavor of any kind.
My friend's tortello didn't turn out to be much better. The meat ragu atop the pasta was delicious, but the meat inside the pasta was quite gamey and frankly there was just too much meat.
I am giving this place 3 stars for the excellent and friendly service, the gorgeous decor and for the delicious house wine. The food however was not up to par and we do not plan to return. read more
