The Wife and I consider Schateke to be our original favorite pub in Hannover. It was actually one…read moreof the first pubs we went to after moving here, and we still have a great time there. They serve French fries with ketchup and mayo, which is why my wife likes it, and they also serve 1-liter beers, which is why I like it. There are only two drawbacks to this place; soccer fans and smokers. The soccer fans are in every pub in the city during and after games; there is no avoiding this. The only thing you can do is get hammered and join them as they scream at the TV screen. As for the smokers, they do have their own room. I call it The Cancer Closet. It isn't very effective at blocking smoke, however, and the entire place reeks by the end of the night. Including your hair and clothes. Overall, I would definitely recommend Schateke. If nothing else, it's worth seeing a pub with a ceiling that is 100% covered in fake grape vines. -- Oh God, My Wife Is German.

The Schateke is a really nice place for spending the evening in Hannover. It has good and…read moreaffordable beer, typical german food (Schnitzel and stuff) and it has a very special and unique atmosphere, kinda rustic. They also say all the Bundesliga matches of Hannover 96 on different screens. I've been there a few times during some matches and there was a great vibe, lots of people in soccer jerseys.

Holy moly! Who knew the best pizza I'd ever find would be in Hannover?…read more I had dinner twice at H'ugo's and have to say that both times our meals were outstanding! The service was a bit spotty both nights but I think it was due to the busy-ness of the restaurant. We tried plates full of appetizers, shrimp scampi that was fantastic, meat platters and dessert platters. Everything was extremely fresh and flavorful. They also had a great cocktail menu and the bartender made a mean Aperol Spritz. I also loved the outdoor courtyard with covered ceiling so we could enjoy being outdoors but not freezing. They also had blankets available for us to cozy up with. And the outdoor lighting was great and made for an intimate dinner.

I would go back even just for cocktails. I can imagine going here for a girls' lunch, a date, a business meeting, really, any occasion! (Ok, i'm obsessing probably a little too much. Just go!)

As I've been eating regularly at Kaiser's for approximately 25 years my review might be a bit bias…read morebut considering most of the other reviews on here my opionion seems to be legit. Like every other larger city of the western world Hannover has a wide variety of hip and modern food and beverage concepts to offer. Every now and again I like to settle for the traditional simplistic approach of regional dishes that can be found at the Gaststätte Kaisers in the Nordstadt. Besides the, in my opinion, best curry wurst (a large sausage with curry sauce and fries) in the northan hemisphere and really good schnitzel with a variety of sauces to choose from, steak and more delicious dishes the seasonal menus vary from asparagus specialities in autum to chanterelles in Summer and kale with smoked sausages in winter are also worth a try. The Kaiser's combines the best of two worlds combining the vibe and setting of a traditional north German pub, with british influences (huge whiskey selection, fish and chips with malt vinegar...) and a traditional German kitchen without beeing to fancy nor shabby. The place is very lively and the service is very friendly and flexible if you like to modify your orders, which I love doing.
