He went on to ask me about my son who had turned 18 that prior year and if he was in college. Currently he wasn't in college. But, he had went to community college for 1 semester the year prior and decided it wasn't for him. The mans reaction was so offensive, rolling his eyes and shaking his head and asking me if I had proof. Since my son was already 18 and he's my first child I had no idea I needed to take his documents. I told him I could get the info and return if it was necessary, but questioned why it would be necessary since I wasn't claiming my son. I honestly wasn't as concerned with 1 term of community college as I was about my expensive 10,000 clinical. My son was working and doing his own taxes anyway. From this jerks reaction I flat out asked him, "Do you think I'm lying?!!!!". He said, YES! I was SO INSULTED!!!!! Who has such low opinions of people that they question 1 term of community college with such contempt! Absurd behavior. I highly doubt he would have treated another man this way. Needless to say I left at once. This mans behavior was strange and classless. Beware of him. I had my taxes prepared here a year before this episode that was adequate. But, the chance of ever encountering this jerk again no way! I'd rather have a root canal.

After an hour of QnA, I decided to hire Silver Tax Group, I paid the initial retainer fee, and I felt really comfortable with my decision. Being a complete mess, I had to send tons of paperwork for both years, sort it , organize it, send it, took me months, I'm not sure on what the IRS wanted so I just sent everything, and I mean everything probably close to 10k in pages, of ledgers, receipts, estimates. Invoices, so on an so forth. The price to hire STG seemed fair in the sense that they took over all communications, and handled everything in and out, this made me feel comfortable. Being under audit for 2 years and you have no idea on why, tends to make you go through the what ifs, what if did this wrong, what if I loose my house, what's family going to think i'f me if I did something wrong that their lifes suffered for it. This no way to wake up feeling every day, it's not good for your mind. Body, or just overall well being. STG, worked with me on a payment plan, and it was doable, during the course of the audit, I had so many questions, between Korey, Attorney Cowan, Julie... they all answered my questions, never got angry by me asking so many, just duis their best to make me feel comfortable. After almost a year, IRS concluded my meals for both years were declined, when you think you could possibly loose everything, owe millions, and you find out you didn't do anything wrong, it's a great feeling, I would certainly recommend STG to anyone in the same situation. Now, just because my grandfather used them isn't reason enough for me, but once I started working in high school, I realized why granddad used them. First, the service is excellent. Many of the agents have been there for decades, so there's a sort of personal connection there that I just wouldn't get with an HR Block-type firm. And given that they're a Michigan institution, their first priority seems to be service, not jacking up prices so high that they put a large dent in your returns. The agent determines how much your return costs; after developing relationships with our agents over the years, the cost of our returns has gone down, not up! I guess it's this kind of ethic that keeps me coming back; they THANK me for coming back each year, not only verbally, but financially as well. That's reason enough for me!
