Took the my niece and nephew for a socially distanced dinosaur excursion. If you know the direct route it's an easy walk for toddlers - 2nd time there but I think the triceratops was missing this time

I visited the village at Allaire State Park at Christmas and was beyond disappointed! First of all, on Facebook, they said dogs were allowed for the Christmas exhibit at the village. When we arrive, we are told pets are not allowed in the buildings only on the grounds. Which is not what the person from Allaire stated on Facebook. Thank goodness I had reciprocal membership from another museum so we were able to get in for free instead of the $10 fee. TOTALLY NOT WORTH IT! For a Christmas Exhibit, I've seen smaller places/museums decorated nicer than this place. I was told how gorgeous this place is at the holidays and I'm not sure why people think this place is so nice! Houses on the street are decorated more than this exhibit. Seriously don't waste your money or time to see the Christmas at the Village. Just not worth it! The park seems nice in warmer weather but this village isn't all that! The best part was able to get the Gurlz photo with Santa!

"2013 Jazz It Up, Wine Festival" brings my travels to New Jersey! Summer's last call for outdoor merriment with my party of four plus one child for wine and jazz. For $25.00 admission fee per adult, our party of four imbibe on wines grown, produced, and bottled all over the Garden State of New Jersey. It was like hopping from winery/ vineyard to winery/ vineyard all day without the need of a car. Kid activities are available. Limited food vendors are on site of the usual: funnel cake, Italian Ice, pizza, including Empanada. I believe at least twenty (20) NJ wineries/ vineyards participated in this event. How can I refuse to imbibe wine and fair food? "Parking donations" of $5.00 goes to the ongoing maintenance of this NJ state park. A bakery and old fashioned carpenter are located on the premises. Upon entering the grounds the sound of an actual working antique steam engine railroad roar the outskirts of Allaire State Park. Note: Only portable outhouses exist as there are no actual indoor facilities on the premises. Visitors must bring insect repellent, sunscreen SPF 60+, and bottled water.

Having lived in the area for years, I've been here often. It is a vast recreational area with quite a few things to do, and of course living in NJ there's things you can't. Swimming is a no no and don't bring in alcoholic beverages. They do charge a nominal entrance fee in warmer weather. Other than that there are plenty of pluses. There's camping, fishing, Allaire Village Museum, hiking trails, miles of nature walks, limited seasonal deer hunting, group and individual picnic areas, the Pine Creek Railroad, and other activities. I even attended a wedding here years ago. There used to be a playground area that was fairly extensive. I don't know why but they razed it not long ago, so unless they are planning on building a new one, the kids have to go without. The Pine Creek Railroad is pretty neat. It is maintained by the NJ Museum of Transportation. They have train rides that are great for kids and adults alike. They are even available for parties. Santa has been known to make an appearance prior to Christmas. I believe they run on weekends but you need to go online to find their schedule. In the summer there are truck based vendors in the area selling what you might expect food-wise. In Allaire Village there are shops selling historical memorabilia and tourist items. The best part for me is walking the tranquil trails of Allaire. At times you can go for miles without seeing anyone else. They are also dog friendly. Check it out.

    Yurt camping.

Cool place. Camping area separate from park but close. Also a bit too close to main road so you can hear cars.. But very clean and organized and staff is very friendly Lots of fishing place around. Esp for kids Horse riding at circle A was great

I'm reviewing the village which was very cute. A walk back in time and a great family day trip.

Decided to take a drive down from NYC. Well worth it. Entry to the park (parking fee) is $5 for residents and $8 for non residents. After parking, there are a few options here. There are a lot of hiking trails that take you through the park. To the left is functioning steam train (Pine Creek Railway) and some railyards. For $5, the train take you around a course in the park which lasts about 12 minutes or so. Not too much to see during the train ride, but for $5 you cannot complain much, especially if you have toddlers or kids that get super excited at the bells, whistles and horns of the train. There is the Allaire Historic Village within the park to the right. There is a bunch of little museum-like houses that contain setups similar to the civil war era. Carpenter station and some other stuff. There is a small museum type house as well that is interesting. The bakery and gift shop both offer cool stuff. The day that we went, there was a civil war reenactment thing. There were all types of stands and huts that show how life was back then. You could purchase things like wooden guns and flags. There is also a guy who does tintype photography which I simply found amazing. All in all a great experience. I wish I would have gotten there a little bit earlier to experience everything that the park had to offer.

One area is a little bit better for smaller kids so it's nice that they have two different options. The best part about the splash pad is the reservation system. You must make a reservation online, and you have a 1.5 hour time slot. Splash pads can get packed on a hot day, so this was a great way to control the crowd. Once your time is up there's an enormous playground right next door. There is so much to see and do that you could easily spend hours here without getting bored. Overall this is a fantastic township recreation area. It's clean and well-maintained, and there are endless play options for kids.

The trails are perfect for walking your furry dogs, in-line skating, cycling, easy walking and pushing strollers. There is also a repair station with a tire pump and tools found near the basketball courts. The Challenger Place has finally finished and is a designed playground for kids who are blind or visually impaired. Their sport courts include tennis and basketball courts, as well as an in-line skating rink. The athletic field is available for rental and may be used for baseball games but not for practices. I have heard they have swimming pools but I personally did not see it. Instead, I saw a spray ground (water-enhanced playground) which was to open in mid-May but given our current situation with the COVID-19 outbreak, this is doubtful for mid-May 2020 due to the pandemic restrictions. Normally, it would open mid-May through early September. I would imagine the busiest time to be there with kids is during the height of summer because summer camps are held there by the Monmouth County Park System and Challenged Youth Sports from Middletown.

Manasquan Reservoir is definitely my go to place for my weekly exercise, walking my pup and in general getting "lost" in my thoughts while I sit on one of the many benches donated for visitors to sit and watch the ripples of the water. As you walk along the few paths you see people out for their daily jog, power walking, biking or just leisurely strolling with their dogs. (on a leash of course). Mom groups with baby strollers, kids on nature walks with their school, its seriously just a wonderful place you can visit for free. I especially like that it is about 7 miles around from beginning to end and has lots of spots to rest and catch your breath. Because the summer can be warm and muggy here in NJ I try to do my walks early AM like everyone else- no joke its can get muggy nasty here..... in the fall and winter even with the cold air or light snow is not a problem I'll walk anytime. Hubby joins me on my walks and afterwards it's off to Meemon's for breakfast There are "johnny on the spot" bathrooms and I have yet to use one- but I see the staff cleaning them now and again. I just use the rest room in the visitor center- which by the way- the visitor is somewhere you should bring the kids, really informative and fun.

They have a great field for baseball. Please note, Freehold Little League is held here so if there is a game, parking will be hard. They also have many playgrounds for kids. They seem to have themed playgrounds so that if you are meeting other parents, just say, "we'll convene at the blue or pirate ship playground" and everyone will find it. They have a fenced in skateboard ramps for tweens and up which I personally think is a fabulous idea. The ramps are spaced and curved only for skateboards. Longboards should definitely stay only on the paved paths where they belong. Speaking of trails, their trails are mixed between paved and dirt. You can safely go on a light walking trail here either solo or as you are walking your dogs. They also provide a few stations with plastic bags for the owners to clean up after their dogs. They also have basketball courts, dog runs, picnic areas, a spray ground on hot summer's days and my favorite, a sports field with obstacle courses. Perfect for the bigger kids with lots of energy and to build coordination. I went in March where things are just somewhat starting to bloom. I can only imagine the splendor in late June where everything will be fully bloomed and the grass will be lush.
