I'm sure Paul at Ellis Briggs means well, but he's had my frame since 2023 and failed to complete…read morethe light restoration it required. He has provided plenty of excuses, but no frame. In june 2024 he claimed it was ready and requested final payment which I, which I made immediately. I haven't heard anything from him since. He doesn't return phone calls or emails. I am forced to turn to the small claims courts to get my money back. You have been warned, go elsewhere.

I sent my prized 1985 Peugeot Perthus 753 Reynolds Frame to Paul in July 23 to have resprayed. I…read morewas due to have it returned by the end of Sept however these are the messages I got back from Paul since then and now nothing. Note the one about being the "custodian": 24 Oct 23 Apologies for not getting back to you earlier as I have been off work. However, your frame is finished. I have packed it up and I'll write up your invoice tomorrow. Kind Regards Paul Gibson 30 Oct 23 Your frame is all packed up now. I did take a photo before I fitted the parts, which you should find attached. Kind Regards Paul 23 Nov 23 Sorry for the delay. One of the decals for your Peugeot had a fault in the printing which we didn't notice until the clear coat was applied. I've ordered a replacement decal set and we'll redo the decals as soon as they arrive in the next few days. I'll be in touch as soon as we have them applied and the new clearcoat done. Kind Regards Paul 4 Jan 24 I just wanted to email you and apologise for the delay with your Peugeot. This email is an apology for falling below the standard expected at Ellis-Briggs. Unfortunately I have a tendency to overestimate what I can accomplish each week and this has led to a backlog. In the last few months of 2023 I was completely burnt out from work 80 hours a week on top of my family commitments. However over the Christmas holidays I have been working behind the scenes to clear my backlog, so I will now turn my attention to making sure your project is completed ASAP. I've worked at Ellis-Briggs my entire working life, it is not just a business for me. I consider myself a custodian. Like most of the bike industry it's not a highly paid endeavour but more of a passion project. I really do love my work. Going forward into 2024 I'm looking to take on another member of staff, to deal with the admin side of the business, as it's taking me away from where I am most needed in the business. I hope you can accept my apology and I'll update you next week where things stand. Kind Regards Paul 12 Jan 24 I don't get up everyday with the desire to disappoint people. On this occasion I've messed up but I want to put this right. Kind Regards Paul 12 Jan 24 I said I would update you this week. Your frame will be ready next week. Unfortunately I can't collect it until the following week as my transport is on holiday and I am teaching all next week. So either way I can either ask them to stop what they are doing with your frame and leave it as is or I can leave them to finish it. Your call. If you choose to have all work stop, I can refund you less the cost of the frame alterations which have already been carried out. If you choose to let them carry on, there will be no further cost as I will do the whole job for the deposit amount. Either way, I won't be able to post the frame until the end of week beginning 22nd January. Kind Regards Paul 29 Jan 24 Just wanted to let you know that I am picking your frame up from the painters this week. I will let you know the tracking details once I have packed it up and arranged the courier. Kind Regards Paul After trying to contact him numerous times via email and phone, i have finally given up and have accepted the fact that I am not getting my frame back. I am now going through the small claims court to try and get my deposit back and the cost of a vintage frame.

Okay so when you think of Yorkshire, you think of rolling hills, beautiful landscapes, maybe a few…read morewhippets and flat caps and then the shopping utopia of Leeds. You are less likely to think of water sports. Well you'd be wrong. The Leeds Sailing and Activity Centre is a great programme for all age groups. They operate about 8 miles out of the centre in Yeadon. What you'll get is courses for your kid, for you and whatever your ability level. You want it, they'll probably have it. Sailing is a really under estimated sport and is a fab way to get some lung busting air in your body. You can try it out in a taster session or go for the more advanced courses, it really is up to you. You can also learn first aid or have a go at powerboating, canoeing or kayaking. Loads of choice, loads of appeal and a real gem to be found just a skip away from the city.

It is also great for people in who have time during the week or Saturday mornings for watersports classes. You do not need to live in Leeds District to go to classes there. During the April, May, summer and October break, they offer activities for childen, including some very reasonably priced week-long summer camps that enable children to sample many of the different activities they provide. The centre offers a very broad range of activities: indoor caving, biking, raft-building, standup paddleboarding, among other things. After doing a multi-activity camp, my son went back for some additional classes and now has Royal Yachting Association qualifications in dinghy sailing and British Canoeist Union qualifications in paddlesports (canoeing & kayaking). We also held his birthday party there for a few years (1 hour of watersports for a group, followed by takeaway pizza and cake in one of their rental rooms) and everyone enjoyed it. I have done (adult) paddlesports classes there and the training was very thorough. There are a lot of other classes on offer, too: windsurfing, rowing, bell-boating, and (during the offseason) powerboating. They do a lot with handicapped groups, too. The only downside to LSAC is that they share Yeadon tarn with the Yeadon sailing club, so don't run classes on Saturday afternoons or Sundays. The full range of classes is available on a PDF that is downloadable from the Leeds City Council website for booking ahead and you do need to book in advance because courses get pulled if too few people sign up.
