I have had only a few experiences with churches, most left an uneasy feeling in the pit of my stomach, like it's all just put on, a show. Being a lesbian couple we did our research before trying to find a church that fits us. As we walked through the parking lot we were met with smiling faces, and open arms. We barely made it through the door before several people approached and introduced themselves. Guided us to the chapel and may I say...it's beautiful. A round room with floor to ceiling Windows set in a wooded area. The sermon was lovely. Easy to follow and made you think in terms of today. The congregation felt like a family. Very connected. I felt no judgement, no bias, no pre conceived notions...just love. It was amazing. We will be back.

The end result is, what I believe, an example of how people can serve a need contextually without losing substance. I suppose coming from a lay person, that should be taken with a grain of salt. No lie. Moving on... COTA has a coffee hour before the service where people mingle and have some great coffee (each cup is brewed by hand) or chai (a secret recipe of a member) along with treats -- they have a suggested donation if you're able. ....Oh, the coffee and tea alone was worth the trip.... If you want some great drinks at 4:30 pm on Sundays, head down that way- totally worth it even if you don't stay for worship. COTA is housed in an arts facility so there aren't pews involved. Instead, they have folding chairs that aren't uncomfortable as I anticipated. If you have a sensitive bum, there are some couches in the back. The whole service had various members participating, it was a well curated event. Although they didn't have bulletins, I didn't feel lost or overwhelmed since people around me were watching and participating. I could follow their lead. During a time called 'open space' we ventured around the room and outside to participate in various activities that were focused Pentecost. Since there were so many options, some activities/prayers/readings hit home. I enjoyed this time to explore the space (I added pictures to the review) and to once again prepare myself for worship. Since I like to talk about customer service, I'll say that we were greeted and directed as soon as we walked in for coffee hour and by several people in various church capacities once we went upstairs for worship. Great service, great people, working together. It was not only a relaxed experience, but one I hope to repeat very soon.

When we first came to Living Hope, my daughter immediately felt a connection. We attended a few more times, and I soon agreed--this was "our church." The sermons are relatable and often speak directly to what's happening in my life. The pastors teach straight from the Bible rather than imposing personal interpretations, which I truly appreciate. Pastor Johnny has a contagious charisma, and Pastor Alex's passion for God is undeniable. The church culture is welcoming and inclusive. I usually feel a bit out of place when visiting new churches because I don't know anyone, but once I filled out a contact card, Angie immediately reached out and began building a genuine rapport that made me feel truly included. She is amazing. My daughter decided to join Living Hope's youth group, where her enthusiasm for Jesus really shines. The relationships she's formed and the topics they discuss are essential for youth to explore in a safe environment with a supportive network. We've since introduced a few friends to the church, and they felt the same sense of inclusion and community. I prayed to God for a church I could join and truly be a part of, and He blessed us with Living Hope. I look forward to continuing to grow--both spiritually and in community--with our new church.

It is a beautiful sight to see. I left my bible study early last night to engage upon my first church review visit. I had decided earlier that I wanted to go to Generation Church because of what I had heard previously from friends who've attended there. So in anticipation and excited I headed out at 8:20pm from Renton to drive into the heart of Seattle to hopefully see Pastor Judah preach at the 9pm service in the U-District. As I drove up I-5 I looked up at the sparkling towers of the Seattle skyline in awe and appreciation as I typically do when I go by downtown. My heart is definitely for this city. Oh how I pray that all those people in the high places of downtown would bow before the Lord Jesus Christ and worship him in spirit and truth! Minutes after passing downtown Seattle I near the exit for the University of Washington on 45th street. Heading north on I-5, the view to the right is of the entire UW campus sprawled out in all it's glory. Being a UW alum, this brings back many fond memories. I arrived at the Kane Hall parking lot at around 8:40pm. I drove up to the parking attendant and asked if the parking was free. She replied that parking was free at 9pm but that I could park and wait until 8:50 and I'd be okay. After I parked I began to feel excited and nervous at the same time. I was looking forward to this and yet, there is this fear that I have of meeting new people. So I prayed to God that he might take that fear away. I got out of the car but there was no strong sense that anything churchy was going on. I saw a few parked cars with young asian women likely waiting until it was 9pm for the parking to be free. Perhaps they were there for church as well. I briskly marched off in the direction I thought the exit was from the underground garage. Upon finding the stairs, I bolted up to the ground level of Red Square. Looking across at Kane Hall, it looked pretty dead. It seemed as there wasn't any church going on at all! I mosied on over to Kane and walked around for a minute until I was satisfied that my suspicions were confirmed. They must have cancelled the service! I walked around campus for a bit until I found a computer lab that had internet access. I googled up generation church to check the location again to see if I got it right. I got it wrong. Apparently the sight mentioned Kane Hall only to point people to the garage with free parking. The actual service was held several blocks away. At this point it was about 9:15, so I hustled over the correct location not wanting to miss any of the worship music. As I arrived, being late, I didn't have too much time to survey the exterior of the building, but I definitely sensed that church was going. The building as far as I could tell was squarish with a flat roof. It looked a bit churchy as it does have stained glass windows. As I walked up the steps to the entrance I was greeted warmly by the team of greeters outside the door. As I entered in, there was a lady standing behind a couple of tables with various books and materials laid out. She also greeted me and asked me a couple questions. I proceeded to following the music coming from my left into the back of the sanctuary where I was again greeted warmly by the ushers. I looked out into the audience and saw 300 to 350 or so mostly young, white, good-looking, and likely well-to-do persons. I'd say the bulk of the people fell in the age range from 16 to 24. The finish of the sanctuary was done very well. The style is greco-roman, with fresh greenish paint on the walls highlighted by crisp white molding and trim. In the front they've got a decent-sized stage with four flat-screens up front, two smaller ones towards the middle and two larger ones to the left and right of those. The stage was well lit with a bank of stage lights overhead and also from the side walls. Lining the top of the walls were some more lights that creating a "glow effect" toward the top of the walls that appeared to change colors... The interior is equally pared down and geometric, but the exposed timber makes for a warmer "Northwest" ambience. I'm not sure how this is conducive to a meditative, if not religious or spiritual experience (there is a walking path "maze" in the small adjacent grounds facing 1st Avenue N, exposed to traffic noise from three close-by streets). I've been tempted to attend a Sunday service but have only been here for a recital as well as historical tour. The older building annex is even more a vestige.
