I attended UMass Dartmouth for two years after I transferred from Bristol Community College. However, I attended this college as a commuter so I can only speak about how my commuting experience was. My classes were two days a week so I was able to make a schedule that worked around my job. The college is very large with the parking lots shaped around the buildings like a circle so it will take getting use to but it has a new renovated library which is a great place to get your work done. My only complaint is the parking decals are very expensive and if you don't pay for a sticker, you'll get ticketed almost every time. I also found this college to be affordable for a university, especially me being a Massachusetts resident. I was able to get financial aid for the majority of my time there so my debt is less than $5000 dollars. I would recommend this college to anyone who's serious about going for their Bachelor's. If you can get a Pell Grant, then heck, you got nothing to lose as a Pell Grant might even cover the whole cost. UMass has majors that are in high demand fields employers want. A great college to go for the science and arts programs alike. I see no point in paying thousands more for the fancy, Ivy league colleges. You are just paying for the name. In the end, a BA or a BS is the same no matter where it was obtained. State colleges are just fine.

As a proud 1995 graduate of NBHS, I had long considered myself well-educated, well-adjusted, and…read morewell-prepared for the challenges of adulthood. My wife and I were recently debating whether or not to send our daughter to a private school, and I implored her to consider that I exclusively went to public schools and turned out great, and I told her that my experience at NBHS was good: my teachers were mostly solid, the facilities were modern, the AP program was excellent, and I was fortunate to interact with students from different backgrounds and pick up "street smarts" that a sheltered private education may not have provided me. She listened to what I had to say, then delivered a devastating blow to my argument: she asked me how it is that a high-achieving black "computer prodigy" graduating New Bedford High School in the mid-90s didn't get a "free ride" through college via scholarships and grants and instead needed to work multiple jobs to stay in school while incurring massive debt, and then temporarily drop out due to not being able to pay for it any longer. "They failed you," she said. It's taken weeks for me to fully come to terms with this, but she's right. NBHS is massive. In a high school of nearly 4,000 students, it's easy to get lost. It happened to me. Thankfully I turned out fine despite that. In the 25 years since I graduated, some things have undoubtedly changed, and hopefully for the better.

I knew that I needed someone competent, and medically knowledgeable to advocate for me in case I couldn't. Alyssa was that, and more. She spoke up when I couldn't because I was focused solely on evicting my child. She offered suggestions to help alleviate my pain and always asked before doing any maneuvers. She kept an eye on my husband for me (I was worried for his wellbeing having to watch me push out a watermelon :P ). I don't know that my birthing process would have gone as smoothly as it did without her. If I decide I want a second child, Alyssa will be right back in that delivery room with me.

Throughout my entire pregnancy she was there to support, offer advice, resources and so much more than I ever expected. She made me feel so confident going into my labor and birth and I felt so well prepared and supported. Having Alyssa at my birth made the entire experience absolutely amazing. The comfort, support and experience she provided to me as well as my husband was beyond anything I ever expected. It was the absolute best experience and I got the birth I wanted and couldn't have done it without her by my side. If you are looking for a doula Alyssa is the absolute best and I highly recommend her services. I'll definitely be looking forward to having her as our doula again for any future pregnancies/births.
