After reading your message, I went back and looked into the situation and the review on yelps more carefully, and I agree that there are parts of what happened that do not line up with the way it was originally explained to us. If you called on Friday to confirm the event, and then called again on Saturday asking where the chef was, Savvy and yumo should have caught the date issue at that point and addressed it with you immediately. You should not have been told that the chef would call you, only to continue waiting and then receive a cancellation by text later that evening. I completely understand why you are so upset. No one wants something like this to happen, especially on their own birthday. I also have my birthday in August, so I can personally understand how disappointing it would feel to put time, money, and effort into planning a special celebration and then have the main service fall through at the last minute. We are now reviewing the communication handled by the two customer service team members- Savvy and yumo who spoke with you. Because their conversations with you directly affected how this order was handled, we are treating this seriously and reviewing whether important information was missed or not properly escalated. If we find that there was any failure to accurately report or handle what happened, appropriate disciplinary action will be taken, including suspension if warranted. I am very sorry that this happened to you, Cheryl. At this point,I want to understand what we can do to help make up for the impact this had on your birthday. Marva's background living in Italy made her a great option for us. -Original recipes for menu choices: Marva gave us tons of great options for our menu that were unique and familiar at the same time (polenta lasagna, spinach and feta stuffed chicken, a red pepper dip my husband is obsessed with) so I felt that our menu was unique but not so out there that guests didn't know what the choices were. -Cooks from scratch: I love that Marva's cooking is all from scratch and she doesn't use fake flavorings or cheap alternative (e.g., sometimes Italian wedding cookies are made with almond flavor instead of actual almond meal and it makes a HUGE difference - Marva goes through the expense of using real almonds and it's so good!). -Didn't need to hire separate appetizer/dessert caterer: Marva really simplified my wedding planning by taking on ALL of our food - charcuterie for cocktail hour, all dinner courses, and dessert. She catered our cocktail hour, dinner, and dessert for an amazing price. I don't see how I could have beat the price if I did the cooking myself. -Lovely person: Marva got the job done, but she was also so friendly along the way. We had a meal with her to try out her cooking early on, and she let us use rosemary from her garden for decorating our wedding. She was wonderful to work with. Highly recommend! As for the food, it was divine. My guests were raving about her meat lasagna, and even the most carnivorous in the bunch loved her vegetarian lasagna. (My son to this day doesn't know that it had vegetables!) For sure, even the pickiest eaters will like one of her dishes. Her desserts were nothing short of exquisite. She made these bite-sized tarts with a sweet lemony custard and fruit in the middle, as well as chocolate. But my favorite was her chocolate and walnut shortbread --- it is crumbly at the bottom, but the chocolate ganache on the top is not too sweet but creamy and has that lovely mouthfeel. She will work with you around your budget limitations, and even if I told her 40 people were coming, she made sure there was extra to go around, in case people were ravenous. :) Generous and honest to a fault, she even drove to my home to give me back the money I gave to her to use for parking (since it was charged to my hotel room). She drove all the way from Hesperia to my house in San Dimas just for that. If you are looking for a good caterer, call Marva. Her 13 years of living and cooking in Italy will be obvious in the food she serves you.
