We hadn't been to Punch Line in about a month and were looking forward to seeing the show. I have a disability that requires strict dietary restrictions, and because of medication I had just taken, I could only drink basic tap water. After we were seated, I explained this to a staff member, who said he would notify our server. When our server, Kat, came to the table, I again explained my situation and asked for tap water. She said she would bring it but that I would still be charged $7 for the Liquid Death water they provide. I explained that I specifically needed basic tap water and was dehydrated. She then told me that I was still required to purchase two drinks for myself and that my boyfriend had to purchase two drinks as well. I explained that paying was not the issue. My boyfriend was happy to meet the two-drink minimum, but I was not going to pay for tap water that I medically needed. Kat laughed, told me I had to comply, and then said, "Let me get my manager so he can talk with you. I'm sure he will make you leave." This entire exchange happened while the MC was on stage, and it was loud enough that people around us were looking over. The manager, Kim, asked me to step outside the venue so we could discuss the situation. I explained what happened and asked for Kat's name, which Kim provided. Kim explained the two-drink policy and offered a reasonable accommodation: my boyfriend could purchase two food items and two drinks to satisfy the minimum, while I would not be charged for tap water. I accepted that solution. She also asked whether I was comfortable having Kat continue as our server. I said no, so she arranged for another server. Unfortunately, when Kim returned inside and told Kat that she had lost our table, I could hear Kat laughing loudly and making racist comments about me. My boyfriend heard them as well. At that point, we decided we could no longer stay. The replacement server came to take our order. I thanked her and explained why we were leaving. I also told Kim on our way out that we were leaving because of Kat's behavior. There was no apology or apparent concern. Security also watched my movements as we left, which added to an already uncomfortable experience. The issue was never about paying. It was about how I was treated when I disclosed a legitimate disability-related need. I understand that businesses have policies, and Kim did ultimately offer a workable accommodation. But the way Kat handled the situation--including laughing at me, refusing to identify herself, threatening that I might be removed, and the racist comments we heard afterward--completely ruined our evening. The two-drink minimum is also a recurring complaint in the reviews, and I understand why. The prices are extremely high for food and beverages at a comedy club. Whether tickets are complimentary or purchased, requiring customers to spend substantial additional money to satisfy a drink minimum can make an already expensive evening even more costly. I am an event manager and promoter and operate my own event business. I work with a large professional network, and many of my clients rent entire venues for their events. Because of this experience, I will not recommend Punch Line SF to my clients, use it for my own events, or choose it for my own entertainment. Punch Line SF: do better.

Although I am a little conflicted about sharing this given that it was so amazing and it becoming popular may change things, I will tell you how good it is because the comedians and organizers deserve it, plus I am not about gatekeeping. I don't even know where to start... The location is fantastic, right at the waterfront. The stage's background was literally water + a beautiful sunset (See the photos if you don't believe me). It is outdoor but still covered, with plenty of heat lamps if you get chilly. The venue is right next to a small restaurant and gourmet-style grocery store and you can buy some food and drinks and enjoy them during the show (no drink/food minimum). The comedians were HILARIOUS right on par with what you'd see in any Netflix special. I've been to Tommy T's in Pleasanton, and House of Comedy in San Jose and this one is my favorite one. The environment is fun, yet relaxed and welcoming. The craziest part about this entire situation is that the VIP tickets are only 20 dollars and general admission is 10. I almost did not buy the tickets because the low cost of the tickets made me wonder about the quality of the show, but I was blown away. HUGE shout out to all the comedians and organizers for such a lovely and hilarious evening.

I've been to shows at Cobb's that were a big letdown and have yet to experience such at Critical Hit. Last night the crowd was ready and they had to add extra seats in the back to accommodate. Sure there's no brick wall or velvet backdrop, who cares?! I came to laugh. Xander Beltran closed out a night that already had everyone gassing with great sets from the hosts and Diana Hong! There's something special about local talent sharing a stage with other locals and touring comics. The standup community is a patchwork of regions and backgrounds that somehow finds ways of supporting each other and pulling the best out of these crossing paths. Need ideas for a date night? Critical Hit is the closer. Anywhere nearby in Temescal is going to have good food and drinks. If you're a planner, getting tickets more than a week in advance and it adds very little cost to your budget for the night. If you can't plan your way out of a paper bag, it's still stupid cheap to finish out your night with comedy on a whim. There's also a local ice cream shop around the corner open til 11pm on Saturdays. Can grab dessert before or after the show. I don't recommend making eye contact with the comics while eating your cone. Do not recommend. Actually wait, since you're the one eating and making eye contact, maybe I'm the one watching, so... highly recommend. Bottom line: I enjoy standup comedy, if you enjoy standup comedy, you'll like the laughs available at Critical Hit.

From the moment I stepped into the doors, I felt welcomed and seen by their employees. After we gor checked in, we moved quickly to our table which was in an easily accessible table which allowed for easy viewing. A waiter eventually showed and took our order. I ordered the tiger shrimp, a ginger beer and a mixed basket of potato and sweet potato fries. Everything arrived hot and ready to eat. I did notice that the shrimp was missing the sauce sprinkled on top which made them taste bland. Otherwise, it was okay. Any concert at Yoshi's is sure to be great! Their sound system always delivers and the seating allows for easy viewing, though we were tightly packed in. Lol. Maysa and her band had us up on our feet dancing at the end. We had a fabulous time All in all, this was a great visit and we certainly look to visit again in the near future. Yoshi's provides quality entertainment in the East Bay. It's October, my first show of the month. I bought my ticket for Musiq Soulchild's (MSC) residency…read moreback in April. I'm here on the first night. I made dinner reservations since my ticket is for 9:30pm. MSC ticket costs approximately $65. I thought "Well o.k. has he come out with a new album lately." I know he is on a record with Masego, but ok. For dinner, I went with black cod. the tempura as an appetizer. A pot of green tea and for dessert two scoops of gelato. Dinner was fantastic. Ok got my seat, I'm at table two. This is the first I believe. The opening act oh I'm going to have to come back and insert his name because I cannot remember it right now. But what I do remember is that he can sang. He provided the background vocal's for Keyshia Cole's Superstar. Now he was good. But tonight was an interesting night and I debated on whether it was a good idea to come on opening night of the MSC residency. You know because they gotta work out the bugs. That bug was the microphone. The opener was singing so good and when he took a step, the cord from the microphone fell out and boom silence. He handled it like a pro tho, plugged it back in and kept on going/singing. Next was MSC. I couldn't hear him. His mic was on 'low-low-low' How do you tell someone that their microphone is low. Next was when the backup singers were performing solos. One girl her mic worked and she was awesome. The second girl, all we saw were her lips move. We could not hear her. We told her and the crowd was yelling, "Your mic. Your mic." Sisterhood stepped in and provided her a working mic. Awwww now we can hear you. Yah, I should have waited. I left feeling 'meh' it was alright only because I felt like it would have been better to hear the headliner of the show. Next time will be different.

Came here for a stand up comedy show. I loved the historic building with the attention to details…read morein the decor. There is something about going to a historic venue vs the mass produced state of the art modern theaters. I'm just in awe of the artistic thought put into all the little details. The venue was spacious with comfortable seats. We had floor seats close to the front. The one thing I didn't like was how close the rows are together. It is very difficult when someone needs to walk in front of you. We managed but it's very tight. They had a lot of staff on hand for a quick ticket check in process. It seems as if they were searching people randomly, definitely not everybody was searched (I wasn't, maybe because I look like a rule follower). They also had lots of staff on the inside to guide you to your seats. Adequate amount of bathrooms on the first floor and upper deck. Located in a well lit part of town with a lot of restaurants nearby to grab a bite to eat before or after the show.

You'll then walk to the back and see the ring. This is where all the action takes place. High flying. Hard hitting. Exciting moves. The MC really gets the crowd going. Now, the place gets packed. Like, lots of people. Drinking. Getting rowdy. And there's no A/C so be prepared to sweat - a lot. There's a merch table where you can get some one-of-kind stuff like a onesie that looks like a dude's chest. Overall, it's a very fun and different way to spend a night in Oakland. And it's one you won't forget.

Attended Slam Town's Ekpyrotica at the Continental Club this past weekend, and had an enjoyable…read moreexperience. The listed ticket time was 8:00 to 11-ish, but in reality it was more like 8:45-11:20pm (doors opened around 8:00pm, and the entry line went quick). The place wasn't too crowded, and though there was a bit of seating against the walls, it was mostly standing room for viewing of the show. Beware, the action takes place both inside and outside the ring, so be ready to move if you're on the first level and the wrestlers end up battling it out and rolling around on the floor or against the pillars, or on the merchandise table (like they did this past FrIday). We watched from upstairs, and didn't miss a thing... they had a large screen for closeup views of all the shenanigans happening in and around the ring, too. There were quite a few matches throughout the night, including characters like Cereal Man, Prisoner 420, and my bf's fave, Bart-Man, doing their thing. I was a big fan of the MonsterTown tag team, all of the creatures dressed in comical costumes and putting on even funnier moves against their rivals, especially the three-headed giraffe and mummy. Lots of props used throughout the show, including ladders, full-size doors (for the dramatic illusion of slamming opponents into these and breaking them), and fake weapons...... oh, but THIS IS REAL... and the dynamic chants from the crowd will remind you all night. Commentary by the "news anchor" host helped guide the storyline with a bit of humor, but I've experienced better and more entertaining announcers outside of Slam Town. Apparently this underground wrestling show is a lot tamer now (in April 2026) than it used to be, back when it was known primarily as "Hoodslam", but we still had a good time. The next Slam Town event is happening on May 22nd at Drake's in Oakland.

The lights in the entrance near the ticket booth is nostalgic. The Lobby, whoa the lobby is breathtaking. You can't help but follow the stairs all the way up the ceiling back around behind you to see the custom glass that looks like clouds. You wish they still made theaters like this. There are no elevators for public use in this building. It's all stairs. There's a bar on the first & second floor. There's also a coat check which I appreciated. I checked in my poster while I enjoyed the show hands free of the merch I bought before the show. The ladies restroom, very Glamorous with the lilac carpet and all Around glass & mirrored vanities that are apart from Le Toilette. It's really a powder room. Through the swinging double art deco doors are the toilets. Like stepping into a time capsule. I took a picture of this stainless steel telephone panel, staff told me it was how they called each floor to communicate with the ushers. There's plenty of staff tonight & I wonder if they're senior volunteers. In my balcony seat, Row G seat 1 the leg room was very cramped. Minimal, no space . I'm 5'2" and I was struggling-I couldn't extend my legs unless I had my right leg extended towards the stairs. I see now why it was available. The locals already know. Anyhoo, there's was an Usher, an older senior lady & she walked up to me, "You can do that, put you leg inside." No problem. I complied without saying a word. Next, I put my phone on the ledge in its stand charging. The lady came back around, she said, "You can't put that there, you can't record, you going to have to move that or put it down. I didn't say anything, took it off the stand & laid it down while charging. My purse, where to put it. So I hung it off the rail in front of me. The same Usher came up & said, "You can't do that, you have to put your purse on the floor. Oh the horror, so I hung it on the armrest close to the stairs. When she saw that, I moved it. At this point people are coming in, the show hasn't started & it's up, down, up down because there is literally no legroom. Luckily I have another seat. I got up to leave this seat. That same Usher was at the stairs, as I was leaving, she leaned over to me as if she was going to say something to me. I hung into the rail, ignored her & left on my way. See that was confirmation to me that I was in her sights. I felt like she was harassing me. She was like the grandma babysitter that didn't want you to do anything, not move, not even sneeze. On to downstairs to Orch Row AA seat 17. This by far was a better seat & so much legroom. You can actually roll a wheelchair through this. That's how wide this row was. Perfect to sneak some pics from this spot. I enjoyed the entire Snarky Puppy set from this seat. They played songs from their new album Somni. Waves Upon Waves was the opening song. These are great talented artists, jazz musicians. I will definitely see them again. After the show, I went to wait in line to have three musicians sign my poster. I was hoping the violinist & the saxophone player came out. No dice. Maybe next time. Add this venue to your concert list. This was my second time here. First was Jill Scott and absolutely no phones upon walking in. Looking forward to posting some reels of this event on my SM accounts.

I left my phone at the venue and tracked it the entire weekend when they were closed…read more I called their lovely Executive Assistant who confirmed nothing has been returned to lost and found by the staff. The day the were open for business, my iPhone grew legs and ended up in SFO. I updated my phone stating that if this returned to your work you'll be terminated and prosecuted. I then called back and provided the address. It was confirmed that one of the sleazy employees stole my phone, then brought it back when they were caught. The Executive Assistant then fedex'd my phone to me and assured me that someone from management would call me. I believe her. They didn't care and never called me, which is rude and tacky because now I have to air them out. Hope the person was terminated but the world will never know.
