I had a terrible experience with these guys. Do not, I repeat, NOT book a lesson with them if you are a complete novice, as I am!
My instructor seemed incredulous that I'd really, seriously, never ever sat behind the wheel of a car before. Once he realized I was actually telling the truth about never having handled a car in my life, he seemed peeved. He had NO patience with me whatsoever - actually shouting at me to relax at one point! It was a farce! In fact, his voice was raised 90% of the time!
Every now and again he'd make a patronizing comment along the lines of "The car can't think for itself you know" or "Watch out for the nice lady, don't hit the nice lady"...! Then he'd harangue me again for being nervous!
His teaching technique was all over the place - he demonstrated turning the car round a corner with hugely exaggerated turns of the wheel, then when I attempted to do the same he yelled at me again - said it was like I thought I was driving a truck or something.
At several points I was close to tears - it was a nightmare experience from start to finish. He made me feel like a hopeless idiot for not being able to drive competently from the word go!
On the way back he seemed to pick up on my feelings and saying stuff like "I hope you didn't think I was being too heavy on you" and then reassuring me about what an excellent teacher he is and how much experience he has. Well, buddy, you can take it from me that all the experience in the world will NEVER make you a good teacher, and I will never book another lesson with you people again.
Oh, and to cap it off, the office neglected to tell me that he would be picking me up from my house, so I walked down to their offices. This resulted in starting the lesson 15 minutes late, as for some reason it took him 15 minutes to drive the 2 blocks down from my house! THEN he had the temerity to charge me for the full hour! I was a nervous wreck by the end so didn't query it, but now when I think back on it I'm seething!
Stay well clear. read more
