After completing the questionnaire, we were invited to the open house. Furbaby is located on the second floor of the "blue house," right next to Westside German Shepherd Rescue. The staff were very thorough in answering our questions about the dogs we were interested in. I was pleasantly surprised by how clean the facility is, it didn't smell like dogs at all, and there wasn't a lot of barking. It's clear they genuinely take great care of their animals. The only slightly awkward part was that other families might be interested in the same dog. In our case, another family came after us, and it was obvious that the dog was a better match for them. It was a good dog, just not "our" dog, but that's part of the process! Overall, Furbaby is professional, caring, and well-run, I'd definitely recommend checking them out if you're looking to adopt.

Genuinely just disappointed. After calling a few times with no response, I texted the number and…read moregot sent the questionnaire. I filled it out, and sent it back. They claim they'll get back to you. Haven't gotten anything back. It's been a week so far. Called over the last week about this pup multiple times and just goes to voice mail. (I understand shelters may get busy, but a week is a bit long). Keep in mind i also reached out within HOURS of the pup being listed. Felt it was almost "meant to be" you could say. So after about a week and still nothing, out of curiosity I checked the website to see if she was still listed. Imagine my surprise last night when she wasn't listed anymore. Didn't even get to meet the pup, let alone get a call or text that she had been placed into a home. Which was heartbreaking to say the least since she literally checked all my boxes for what I was looking for as far as breed and age. I don't know if I answered one of Dawn's questions wrong, or if I wasn't deemed acceptable to adopt, but at least a message that she had found a home or that I didn't qualify to adopt would've sufficed. There should at least be the guarantee of letting everyone who applies meet the animals so everyone has a fair chance. I read through every single review on here a few nights ago, and so I don't know if it was because of my age (which I genuinely believe does not indicate who can and cant parent a pet, that is absolutely ridiculous, but apparently for some breeds there is a age restriction to adopt, which is 25, and is no where stated on their website or during the adoption application). If this shelter believes in an age restriction on a specific breed, they need to at least disclose that information upfront. I don't know if it was because I said I would crate train. My living situation, my job, etc. But what I can say is you shouldn't be judging people and how they can take care of animals based on whatever your interpretation of them is through a questionnaire. I know people get busy, but updates are just a sign of respect and should be guaranteed especially when someone is interested in adopting an animal. Just so then there's no confusion and people don't sit around waiting for something that'll never happen. Happy the pup was placed in a home, just communication needs to be improved and I think listing the qualifications and things you're looking for in a person would be helpful so people can know whether or not they would qualify. I still don't know if I even qualified but, oh well. My search continues.

While we've made a lot of progress over the years, her skills have slipped and I really need her dialed in on her responses. While it's nobody's business, just in the past few months; we were both struck by a distracted driver while walking in the crosswalk and had the signal to proceed. I looked in every direction, but several steps into the crosswalk, an SUV did not slow down, and hit us...A week and a half ago, I was held at the ER on suicide watch. Three days ago, I was within feet of getting shot by a gun right outside of my business! I strongly considered a German Shepherd since they're also intelligent, loyal and can provide protection/barriers for those suffering from PTSD like myself. I've been suffering a lot with my clinical depression and anxiety for years, all the while, I'm a small business owner. Csilla replied to me and automatically denied my application for considering rehoming, and for "testing" if they don't make the cut. Rehoming is NOT an easy decision, I've been crying over the thought, I love my dog! I love my dog so much that I was only reaching out to close friends who my dog also loves, so I can still see here. My immediate family does not want a second dog in our household, so this was the only loving and responsible decision that I can come up with. It's neither fair for a dog that exhibits fear, stress, and anxiety to be forced into a job that only exacerbates their behavior. My mental and physical health are just as important as my dogs. This is the purpose of rehoming, I never once said that I would surrender her to a shelter or just simply disown her. Below is her response; ..."Unfortunately we're not able to approve your application. There is no guarantee that any of our dogs will work out as a service animal, and the fact that you would rehome her if that was the case, makes this an automatic decline for our rescue. It's very sad to hear that you are thinking about rehoming a dog that has been with you for 5 years. There are countless dogs in animal shelters dying every day because people consider them disposable. Your dog will be heartbroken if she has to lose her family. Her stress and anxiety will get even worse, which means many people will pass on her at the shelter and she will most likely be euthanized because of the overcrowding problem in the shelter system. We hope you will not let that happen and leave her behind to be killed. There is no reason why she can't stay with you as just a regular pet and part of the family, while you get a 2nd dog that has been proven to be a qualified service dog. It's not fair to the dogs for you to keep "testing" and rehoming them if they don't make the cut. Please work with one of the many organizations that specialize in placing service dogs. Any dog returned to a shelter (not rescue) has a much higher chance at being euthanized sooner than the ones who haven't been adopted and returned yet. Thank you, Csilla Westside German Shepherd Rescue of Los Angeles" Absolutely disgusting response; full of guilt, shame, and judgement! I will NEVER contact them again! I will leave their response on here for potential clients to read for themselves. FWIW, I decided to continue working with my dog, despite the $6k training costs! My mom also couldn't let that happen and told me that if it came down to it, she would keep her.

Staff here is super friendly and efficient getting everyone checked in and processed for their animal's spay/neuter. The veterinarians here are compassionate and highly efficient proceduralists. Our dog's recovery was so smooth that we were surprised - her incision site was so small and she barely needed her isolation cone. By the next day she was walking around, and her appetite/elimination had returned to normal. The facility itself is so clean and well maintained - the kennels are spotless and tidy, and it's definitely a place where I would trust leaving my household/beloved pet. Parking is narrow and the lot is small, so be careful pulling in and out of the lot. Nearby the side streets are a bit rougher with some shadier types lurking around the corners. If you're coming here for spay/neuter services you're likely here during the day so it's not a factor, but something to be aware of. If you're able to get on their wait list and/or lottery to get seen by their vets, it's totally worth it. Highest recommendation.

They helped me when I was at some of the lowest points in my life, truly being a blessing when I had nobody else to support me. Fast forward to 2024, and my feelings have completely changed. PawsLA is now actively involved in harming pets and shortening their lives. The animal healthcare industry operates similarly to the human healthcare system, where the main objective isn't to heal or cure but to keep individuals dependent on pharmaceuticals and keep them coming back to the doctor. Doctors and Vets make good money. They drive nice cars and live in big houses. They make alot of money (as they should ) but the fact is they are NOT trained to help anyone long term. Their goal is to not kill us but to keep us alive, sick and dependent on them. It's a business model that ensures profit, and unfortunately, the animal healthcare profession operates in much the same way. If you take just five minutes to do some research online, you'll find veterinarians and animal healthcare professionals sounding the alarm, revealing that some procedures vets suggest or encourage actually harm pets. Look up Dr. Judy Morgan or check out the 2013 UC Davis study, which found that spaying and neutering pets can increase the risk of certain cancers and orthopedic issues. Studies have shown that spaying and neutering your pets can result in: * Increased risk of joint disorders (e.g., hip dysplasia, cruciate ligament tears) * Higher likelihood of certain cancers (e.g., bone cancer, hemangiosarcoma, urinary tract cancer) * Increased risk of endocrine disorders (e.g., hypothyroidism) * Behavioral changes (e.g., increased fearfulness, anxiety, or altered aggression) * Increased tendency toward obesity * Higher risk of urinary incontinence (especially in spayed females) * Changes in coat texture or thickness * Delayed growth plate closure in large breed dogs * Potential impact on overall quality of life despite increased lifespan There will always be arguments against these points, but consider who's making them--veterinarians and organizations that profit from keeping animals sick. If you think spaying or neutering is a good thing, ask yourself: Would you spay or neuter your own child? No? Then why do it to your pet? It's not natural and we were designed to procreate . It's not my job to educate people about the negative consequences of spaying or neutering. I'm not a vet. Don't take my word for it--do your own research. But remember, vets have a vested interest in promoting these procedures, even though they might not be in your pet's best interest. PawsLA supposedly helps low-income pet owners with HIV by providing assistance with food, medical care, etc. Yet, they refuse to help anyone who doesn't spay or neuter their pets. That's strange, isn't it? How can they claim to support pet owners while refusing assistance unless the pets undergo a procedure that could potentially cause more health problems? When questioned about this policy, PawsLA's response is that they are merely enforcing the rules set by the City of Los Angeles. They claim they won't cover the cost of spaying and neutering because that would mean taking responsibility for any harm caused to the pets fr spaying and neutering. They avoid liability by sticking to these rules, all while ignoring the moral issue of potentially harming the very animals they're supposed to help. I believe the people at PawsLA genuinely care about pets and want to help, but they don't want to confront the fact that the rules they're enforcing may actually be harming the animals they serve. They say, "my hands are tied," but I think it's wrong to go along with these rules just to keep the organization afloat. I recently lost my job and am dealing with health issues that prevent me from finding stable employment. I don't have any income or assistance like SSI or unemployment insurance. I barely have enough to feed myself, let alone my dog. I turned to one of the few organizations that are supposed to help people like me, and they won't help because I refuse to put my puppy through a procedure that could harm him. PawsLA told me they aren't directly forcing me to spay or neuter my dog. True but their rules ensure that they can't offer me assistance unless I do. So, is my pet supposed to starve because I won't compromise his health? This makes no sense. This organization has blood on its hands and should be held accountable. If they didn't know what they are doing I am telling them now. Educate yourself and stop harming innocent animals.

Here I learned my life lessons, how to walk in high heels, how to play an instrument and how not to do the things that parents do to land one of their children here. The David and Margaret home for girls was where I found shelter by the state of California when I became a ward of the state. It is a large compound behind metal gates in the San Gabriel valley of Los Angeles. When you enter the large gates there are clerical, administrative and counseling offices, followed by ten small cottages that house ten girls and two staff members in each. I spent many years in the Mueller on your right. Dead ahead will be a dining hall and behind it, a recreation center and a swimming pool. At the very end of the complex is a large white estate which was the original orphanage that contributes it's name today. The estate is home to a store and behind her is a horse, that if she is still living is named Oatmeal. Girls like me who have exited abusive homes are treated to counseling, food, shelter and an education. *The rules are very strict. You may not exit the gates of the complex without being AWOL. A bell rings to announce a meal of county food and a light shines in your eyes every night on the hour from a night guard. You will not receive hugs or personal treatment from the staff who is regularly changed to ensure that you not become attached, but you will also never be harmed again as long as you are here. I have many stories about this place like skating at Skateland, camping at Leo Carillo in Malibu for winning the softball championship, carrying my first picket sign and many others. I'll tell you one. We received an allowance from the state of California of $3.25 per month each. If you could manage to not break a rule for 30 days, the allowance increased. (These rules were hard not to break) A state inspector went through your shared bedroom with a white glove every morning. Chores, grades, recreational credits and household interactions were part of the grade. I was a disaster, I was inconsolable because no one loved me. Or so I thought;) I used the angst to break the record for going the longest without breaking the rules. My eyes were on the prize and like the stubborn, one track minded girl that I am, I was obsessed. After years of saving, I finally did it. I bought my Yamaha G35 acoustic guitar, tuner and case at Guitar Center. I was twelve years old. I practiced every night to make use of the time that I was not permitted to watch television and taught myself how to play without the aid of a book. It took a couple more years to make a career out of it. To Adrian, Pat and all the other proctors: Thank you for raising me. To the nurses, therapists, teachers and counselor's: Thank you for everything. I am here because of you. I'll spend my life writing this review. For now, no words can credit you what you are owed for taking me in. I'll try to do you right by the actions of my life. David and Margaret takes contributions and accepts mentors with special skills. You can donate your time doing things like giving music lessons. This is an amazing place to lend your hands. Your Christmas cards and your good intentions.
