He communicates extremely well, checks in appropriately, and truly takes great pride in every single detail of his work. The work in both of our areas was just like watching one of those TV shows - super fast, super clean, and in the least intrusive way as possible. If there were more than 5 stars, I would give it to him. We found Jeff randomly a few years ago - he came and repaired our chimney that was falling apart. He was the first one to respond to my request and the job was completed extremely well and fast. I didn't know him at all before he did our chimney - and the rest is now history. They were great last year when we wanted the quote…read more Fast forward a year when we are ready for the project and they were extremely un-communicative and difficult to get a hold of. Problems below. 1. Multiple emails attempting to get Hucke Drywall to come out with very little response or no response at all. 2. Gave Hucke drywall my availability on the day of the site visit. Never gave me an ETA on when he was going to arrive. Ended up delaying the visit because I took 30 min to respond to a text. 3. Tried to increase his price because I "never" told him it would be rounded corners or knockdown texture even though that was included in the original bid. 4. NOT friendly. 5. We did the framing ourselves because we are not made of money and tried to make our dollar go further. He kept critisizing the work. Excuse me, we may not be professionals, but there is a nice way and a mean way to say things need to happen prior to the next step. Obviously, they didn't want the job. He kept asking, Well, why aren't you doing this wall yet, why aren't you finishing this door... I told him multiple times this is a large basement and we are doing things in phases. We are NOT using Hucke and I would only recommend using Hucke if you absolutely need to. Clearly our project was too "small" for him.

I have been using them for several years to service my rental properties located in Milwaukee and they come through time and time again. The best thing about them is that they are a "jack of all trades". Need plumbing, electrical or general maintenance all done on the same visit? No problem. Their guys can do it all. They even know how to do some of the "lost skills" from previous generations that old houses need, like replacing window sash cords or dealing with the old cloth wiring. A hint for you if you plan to use them- let them know on the phone what projects you have for them. That way they can ensure that they have the right tools. Also do your own shopping for replacement parts or things needed. They charge by the hour (plus a flat service fee)so the last thing you want them to be doing is shopping on your dime. You can always take back the stuff they don't use. My Handyman is like that handy husband that you wish you had but don't!!

We had Terry remodel our 1940s bathroom - electrical, plumbing, tile, tub, painting, toilet, sink,…read morelighting, cabinet, exhaust fan, grab bars, counter, plaster repair - the works! It's now been about 4 months since he finished the work and each day I look at our new bathroom and think "wow!' He did a great job! He was patient and always responsive to any questions or issues, and cleaned up each day. Great workmanship too. He started out by measuring and answering any questions we had, offering ideas here and there but letting us make our own decisions. Unlike some other contractors, he did not give fancy 3D architectural renderings, nor did he accompany us to each supplier to pick out products. Here's what his process was, which was perfect for us. We received a proposal contract which listed each item or task, along with a cost allowance for each item. If we chose something more expensive than its allowance, the final price would reflect the increase. If what we chose cost less than the allowance, the final cost would go down by that much. So we had a bottom line price from the start and would have the final decision on expenses. He then also gave us a list of his suggested suppliers from which to pick out all of the products. We worked with those suppliers to make selections at their respective showrooms (they work with TLC regularly), and they forwarded our selections to Terry. A few selections we made were from suppliers not on his list, which was fine, but the places he suggested were where most of the items came from. When all selections were made, he provided us with a revised proposal contract reflecting our selections and revised costs. Then he - not us - did the ordering from each vendor to insure that all of the parts and pieces fit together and would work, plus that way his contractor discount was applied. His final contract to us was transparent and showed all prices. No additional markups, no change order fees, no nonsense. If someone wants computer-generated architectural renderings, having him present at each supplier meeting, one central showroom where every needed product and samples are all in one place, then this type of contractor isn't likely for you. If however, you want a remodeling contractor that not only provides the quote but also does the actual work himself, with reliable suppliers that work with him, with a fair price and a minimal amount of stress (if that's possible lol), then TLC's a good choice. Would we recommend TLC Contracting? If you haven't it already guessed: the answer is absolutely!

I got a quote and was…read moreassured by the person who came out to my house that they would be respectful of my budget and would come up with a quote based on what services I needed prioritized. We agreed on a plan and budget, which included ripping up carpet and laying down LVP flooring, along with drywall repair, paint and installing fans in the bathrooms and repairing any drywall that was damaged as a result of that installation. Before the project started, I asked if the baseboards would need to be removed and was told no. During the process of ripping up the carpet, they did in fact have to remove the baseboards, which was not discussed with me, and I was told they would do their best to keep that extra expense "at cost" and "as close to our original quote as possible." Also, hardwood floors were discovered. I had a conversation with them about what it would mean to refinish the hardwood floors instead of laying LVP and I was told it would save me money. They sent me a "change order" for this, which was roughly $1000 less than my final balance due, so it seemed I was saving $1000. It was an ADDITIONAL 5k. This was not clarified for me until after that part of the project was finished. The entire scope of my project was not complete, because I had to ask them to stop working on the house due to already exceeding my budget, repeated delays, confusion about whether they were hiring an electrician for part of the project, and unfinished work. While I was waiting for clarification on the additional 5K charge, the owner reached out to me to have a conversation about the project - he left a voicemail which I returned. He never tried to call me again. After several conversations with JB, I was told they would refund the cost of the baseboard (their mistake) but they did not offer to make any other adjustments to my total due for work that was completed. I can only come to the conclusion that I was deliberately misled. I agreed to hire them because I wanted to get all of my projects completed at once to save time. I am left with unfinished work that exceeded my budget by a few thousand dollars, and at square one with my bathroom fans and and other finishing work that needs to be done.
