It's been over a year, and I've had time to reflect. While hospice care should center on compassion, communication, and trust, our experience fell short in several critical ways. Our family often felt unheard, with key decisions made without fully including all family members with decision making authority. Communication lacked consistency and transparency, and at times we were given information that later proved to be inaccurate. There were also concerns around professionalism. Sensitive information was discussed in ways that felt inappropriate, which further eroded our trust. Additionally, clear family wishes--particularly regarding the timing of certain medications--were not consistently respected, and explanations around those decisions were conflicting. Basic care expectations were not always met. Equipment that was promised was not provided, and safety measures that should have been in place were absent, leading to a preventable fall incident. End-of-life care is one of the most vulnerable experiences a family can go through. It requires honesty, coordination, and deep respect for both the patient and their loved ones. Unfortunately, our experience did not reflect those standards. It is not surprising that Endless Journey's nurses received probation and fines for misconduct in July 2026. I share this out of concern. No family should have to navigate this type of added distress during a time of grief. My Grandma was an amazing woman and I am grateful for the time that I got to spend with her.

Emily, in particular, advocated fiercely and compassionately, making sure our family member was placed somewhere she trusted. She thoughtfully considered the whole picture of his needs. The care, relationships, and sheer humanity of every person we encountered at Haven is unsurpassed. He was always clean, treated with dignity, and genuinely connected with the people who cared for him. The Haven Hospice Team didn't simply provide hospice services; they gave our family safe passage through an incredibly difficult time and remained deeply caring and present through my dad's final days. I cannot recommend Haven Hospice highly enough.

The nurse, Chaplin AND THE CNA! Everyone was very good at communicating with us, and they took excellent care of our mother. Mom could no longer hear, but the Chaplin continued to read out of the bible to her and pray with her, it gave her so much peace. And the CNA... my mom got more excited to see her than me! She was great. She did everything and anything that needed to be done for her. They came at the perfect time. My sister had a knee replacement, so I was taking care of her - and neither of us were getting over to take care of mom very often. They made her last 3 months for her life so happy, and relieved a lot of pressure off of us. thank you Haven Hospice.

I experienced Eastmont when I was as a caregiver when my mother became a resident in 1968. What is said on Eastmontliving.com when you click on "Eastmont Way" is "We are committed to exceeding your expectations". I have been a Care Giver since 1966 when my father, who was a teacher for Lincoln Public School, was killed in a train/car accident on my 20th birthday. I was in college and worked with Dad doing grain farming. My Mother was on home leave from the State of Nebraska Mental Hospital. She had never lived alone. She rose to the occasion of preparing meals, etc. and caring for our home. I graduated from Wesleyan in 1968 and was going to Pennsylvania with a full scholarship, where I earned a Ph.D. in Science at the University of Pennsylvania. Eastmont's concept was a Life Care Community, which is the highest level of Continuum Care Retirement Community and was born in Lincoln, Nebraska, in 1968. Due to a "God-incident", my mother was an original resident when Eastmont opened because they were not able to sell an independent living apartment in the basement. Eastmont needed full occupancy to covert the construction loan into a mortgage loan. Her age was below the advertised minimum age. Her church, who was among the churches promoting Eastmont, knew that if I left Lincoln, it was likely she would again become hospitalized. She chose her mission at Eastmont to be making over 300 handmade birthday cards every year for every Eastmont resident and employee. She lived at Eastmont for 43 years. After we moved into Eastmont in 2016, Eastmont partnered with Transforming Age, a national non-profit with the same mission in 2019. The $50 Million Expansion means that by 2022, when it is completed our 5-Star rating expectations in 2016 will be greatly exceeded.

Because that previous experience is so much fun and interesting working with great staff and wonderful residents, I thought volunteering there would be the perfect place. I called the office and spoke with a woman. I told her what I wanted to do but she was very rude. She transferred the call to another person. The next woman was just as rude as the previous one. I decided not to volunteer with Eastmont. I didn't want to surround myself with rude and grumpy staff. I did get a call from upper management. She was very kind. I appreciated her apologizing for her rude employees. Eastmont gives great care to its residents. I hope that never changes. Since renovating their facility/home, it is a beautiful and comfortable environment. I gave them a lower review so they will learn to hold people accountable. I believe everyone should be treated with kindness and being polite.
