I've made this store part of my grocery shopping days, I won't buy supplements anywhere else, because between the kind employees who embody aloha and the adorable and absolutely kind, intelligent and welcoming owners, I have everything I need to navigate the impeccable display of fine supplements. I have long been a fan of this spot back to my college days when I would stop in for their sun dried tomato raw burger. The menu has evolved and the space is more open now. My sister eats here regularly and I stop in whenever I'm on island. I know I can trust the food and feel good after I eat even if I load up on desserts, which I do. They have honi honi chocolates and niu life vegan cheesecake!! Their bowls are great too. We ordered the green bowl, Mac crack bowl and the lemongrass chicken bowl. Service was also very nice and accommodating for my carrot allergy. I don't know how I've managed to drive past here for so long without actually knowing what I've been missing out on. At least from my first experience today. The presentation & even the taste of everything was even better then I expected. I try to eat & drink healthy when I can. Which when you do you can actually taste the difference when quality ingredients are used. Even the full feeling afterwards doesn't weigh you down. Instead it energizes you & when my body feels good I'm happier, it shows. As for an example, I'm not a beet fan because of their strong earthy flavor. However I know they are good for you so I'll try adding them into my diet every once in awhile. So I pored myself a shot of beet juice thinking I'd swallow holding my breath. Except I was caught off gard. With the added ingredients the earthy smell wasn't as potent, it was even smooth going down. Plus it didn't have that bitter aftertaste. This is the first time I've ever tasted a beet juice this good I finished the bottle & was still craving more. Being that this was my first visit, I'm definitely intrigued & need to come back to try out more of their menu. Plus just to figure out all my new favorites. Hidden inside a health supply store is a delicious cafe with fresh eats. Items can be made to order or you have nice options to grab and go. You can order using a computer or directly at the counter. There were lots of yummy options. Sadly, we stopped by for an açaí bowl because we saw pictures of it. They no longer serve this. Once we got our food, I was shocked at the size for the price. We ordered the reasonably-priced congee (not common in a non-Asian restaurant) and it was sublime. Total comfort food with so much umami. The taro banh mi is SO yummy and has perfectly balanced flavors. The only thing we could recommend is that the bread be a bit bigger/wider as it's too skinny for all the goodies that are trying to stay inside! When you walk through the front doors, to your right is all your health care items, from vitamins, specific medicines. healthy snacks, and even a sitting area to be able to talk to one of their very informative people in helping you get better from what you are suffering from. Behind the counter, you can find different brands of CBD. Personally we go with the CW brand as they are one of the most reputable brands. Turn to the left and you will see a whole section of food items. They have a cold case that has a whole bunch of yummy for your tummy food items. Some things they have ready to take and eat are their sandwiches, sushi, assortment of desserts and yes they even have raw gluten free vegan pies so check them out. They even have a counter where you can order other kinds of food as well as drink. One of my favorite things to eat there is their avocado toast. It tastes so good and believe it or not it is healthy for you too. Double points. I'm not one to be a healthy eater per say but I do feel good when I eat good food as they have here. read more

This was our last "eating" stop on our way back home. I wish I had found this place on our arrival and on our treks through Paia. I found this place on a Yelp search. And I almost did not walk in based on the looks from the outside. Don't get me wrong....there's nothing wrong with the looks - I just didn't think it looked like much of a place to get a smoothie or breakfast. Once I walked in, I was pleasantly surprised. It was like walking into a smaller, independent "Whole Foods." They have a nice market with excellent products that cater to organic, non-GMO, vegan, etc. I ordered at the food bar. It was tough to make a choice because everything sounded so good. I ended up with an almond and cacao smoothie and a smoked salmon/avocado toast. The workers were very friendly. There are very few places to get a healthy meal in Central Maui, but here is one worth going to. My go to are usually the DJ blast smoothie and an Avocado summer roll with peanut sauce. Can't go wrong there. The offer great juices and cleanses as well as salads and plate lunches. My last visit I tried their Miso Ramen and fish sandwich. Unfortunately, was starving and taking a picture was last on my mind. But take my word it was delicious. Prices are high for the size of what you get, but having a small locally owned business in Hawaii is not easy. Support local when you can. read more

We love this place! Someone where we were staying recommend it and during one of our stops in Kahului we had lunch at Broth. It was fantastic. There are several vegan food options that are outstanding. I had the mushroom lentil bowl and my wife ordered tofu poke and seasonal veggies, both sides. Everything was very fresh, savory and absolutely wonderful. The people working here are great too. It's a must stop for anyone, especially if you're vegan. The options in Kahului are somewhat limited and this is one of the best new spots for lunch or dinner that we've found. Highly recommend! read more

SMOOTHIES you HAVE to get the DJ Blast smoothie. It has a certain taste to it that's absolutely yummy that during my stay I came here 3 times in one week for this smoothie. Acai smoothie was good too! FOOD was all delicious including the pesto pasta salad, the avocado salad, and the craisins salad. Their breakfast chicken sausage burrito was so good I ate 2 in one week. Chicken salad sandwich I took on my road to Hana trip and it was good too! Sampled a soup and it was good too. Only thing I didn't like was their passion fruit cheesecake which is not made with any cheese so it has this chalky texture bland taste to to it, but I'm sure it's really healthy. INSIDE is like a health food store with organic options and a lot of vitamins. Ordering food is to the left. You order then pay at the register at the front of the store using the sticker bar codes they give you. Basically on the honor system. No laptops allowed in the eating area. DEALS check in for 5% off or $1 off smoothie but each time the 5% was a bigger discount since you can't combine the two. OVERALL this place has awesome food and smoothies. I recommend it. read more

Stopped at this place for lunch. They boast vegetarian and veagan options so, I was interested to see their selection. I was not disappointed as the menu had plenty to choose from. The deli is in the back of the store with a few tables and a small bar area if you want to stay. I love places like this...local mom and pop shop. Good food and everyone friendly. Oh I wish I lived near this store. The deli is outstanding! So many delicious and fresh vegan and vegetarian options! The veggie sandwich and chia pudding were two of my faves. A great stop for healthy snacks if heading on the road to Hana. There is not a huge selection of grocery items (the store is fairly small) but you should be able to find at least one brand/type of what you're looking for, I did. This place I love and hate it... today I hated it. I ordered a rare special fish of the day... OPAH - ahhh heaven if you know opah ... it's moist and delicate (when cooked correctly) it melts from your fork and flakes in tasty morsels. I usually get some great prepackaged item from the deli as it's fast, cheap 'clean' food. You just can't beat it for a quick grab! Their cases are full of tasty healthy items and fast friendly service. The cashier of the NEW BROTH CAFE inside this health food store invited me to try a new full menu item prepared fresh and it sounded amazing being opah one of my favorite fish! My delicious congee came out right away - it was take out for dinner but the fish took so long I began to eat it already as I was hungry. About half way through my 'fresh fish' came and it looked to have been quickly deep fried... likely not?!? But it just looked funny not at all the moist delicate fish I expect in an opah. Hmmmm I poke it with a fork and it appears rubbery and will not break away. I get my fingers in and break it off to see its undercooked. Dang ... should I bother to mention it? Well yes! $14 is a bit more than I usually spend in case items so I speak up. The cashier staff is friendly and takes it. A few min later I see a an angry young man coming towards me with the offending fish with the best intimidation 'death stare' u can imagine... does this guy practice? He's so good at being mean faced!! "I find this fish flaky and moist!" he barks. Pushing his angry controlling face into my bewildered one... "Do u want to keep it?! Since it IS moist and flaky. I reply "with THAT stare, I guess so!" Uhhh I recover, "What's ur name? Are u the chef!??" I ask since no introduction was given. "Yes, I am the chef. I am Noah" And turns on his heel. "You know what, Noah, I find I do NOT want to keep it. " He ignores me and walks away - his practiced evil stare now positioning itself onto the friendly cashiers. Hmmm well I get up and place the offensive food and receipt to a cashier and say "I don't want this." They say I can have refund. Much later a friendly cashier returns with a receipt - saying "here's your receipt, your refund has been denied" ??!!? I say "sure I'd be happy to discuss this with the manager. " Nope I'm told "he's too busy, you have been denied a refund" Well I get up and leave the new eatery and walk to the registers to find the ever hard working manager Michael, very busy with a clean up and mop. I speak right up amidst his busy-ness explaining how rudely I have been treated over a $14 item . He was IMMEDIATELY responsive and refunded my money. Chef 101.... If a customer doesn't like something... refire it. Don't fire up your ego and get in a customers face and tell your cashiers a refund is being denied when the food is gone and the money is gone.... Bad combination for repeat business - especially for a NEW cafe on an island FULL of food options. My rant for the day... but I won't let it ruin my Saturday read more

Such a cute little shop. I love that there are specialty vegan, organic, natural items as well as a cafe with a good variety of healthy goods. I visited Broth, the cafe inside, which had a self order screen which is kinda cool, I liked how it showed me the ingredients in each item and was user friendly. Ordered the Green Bowl and Matcha Smoothie. The Green Bowl was pretty yummy, lots of different things in the bowl itself and the price was good for the quality and quantity. It came with some cabbage, potatoes, avocado, radish and that Mac crack was BOMB.com.. low key wish there was more lol. There was an option on the menu to add extra sauce which I should've got because the bottom of the bowl got kinda flavorless and dry. The flavor up top was yummy though. The Matcha Smoothie had an good yet acquired taste. When I first tasted it.. there was something that made me furrow my eyebrows lol. The more I drank it, the less I seemed to notice that interesting after taste. I still can't put my finger on what it was though Perhaps a very strong matcha powder..? Anyways, overall it was yummy. Coconutty and a pretty hearty consistency which I'm thinking is from an avocado since my smoothie turned brown after a few minutes (which I totally understand). After ordering, my order was ready rather quickly.. maybe 7-8 minutes or so which gave me time to look around the aisles. BREAKFAST I have driven by Alive & Well countless times, and finally decided to stop in today. The business is mostly a health and wellness store, However, there is also a restaurant portion I was not aware of until recently. You walk up to the counter of the restaurant to place your order. While you sit at the counter, they bring the food as it is finished. I am a fan of Bloody Marys, but unfortunately they do not have any. I looked through their nice variety of fresh juices, and bought a Watermelon Juice ($8.50). I also bought a large bottle of water ($1.39). I guess the restaurant food and fresh juice are typically paid at the restaurant while other items like my bottle of water are paid for at the store. At the restaurant, the cashier was kind enough to print off my order so I can pay for everything at the store cashier. I know she was being nice and trying to help. This did make it a little confusing and usually I am ready to write the tip on the restaurant copy but the store copy did not have a spot for tip. I hope they are able to eventually treat the restaurant and store all the same. This not only will make the experience more smooth for their guests, but then the restaurant staff will not miss out on tips. I am guessing similar experiences happen fairly often when someone is ready to tip for restaurant food but then does not tip when the food order is paid at the store cashier where there is no place to enter a tip. I am a fan of Avocado Toast. They have four types; Egg ($7), Miso Tahina ($7), Lox ($9), and Curried Chicken ($8). I ordered the Lox Avocado Toast and was extremely happy. The avocado was the perfect ripeness with creamy flavor. The salmon was also delicious and will definitely order this again, as well as the other thee versions. The service was excellent and everyone was very friendly and helpful. No Kama'aina discount available. Breakfast hours are 8 - 7 Monday through Friday, 8 - 6 Saturday and 10 - 5 Sunday. Alive & Well is an underrated breakfast spot as they serve breakfast late, have excellent customer service, and quality food. I also am highly interested in returning to try their two breakfast burritos; Green Breakfast Burrito ($8) (flour tortilla, seasonal roasted vegetables, sweet potato hash, cashew cream, cilantro, salsa) Breakfast Burrito ($8) (flour tortilla, egg, chicken, potato, cheese, sour cream, cilantro, salsa). I love the new menu at Broth. Our favorites are the lemongrass chicken bowl, the Mac crack fish of the day bowl and all of the salads. The staff are always friendly. The maui bowl is also delicious. I do have a couple of unsolicited suggestions I'd like to see. First, maybe 2-3 options for a keiki menu. Second, it would be awesome to have a non peanut based dipping sauce for the rolls...almond or sunflower perhaps‍. I do recommend this place. read more

As a former professional chef I offer this I the spirit of assistance. Twice the ramen has been ordered and it came out Luke warm. The tofu was cold. I am gathering the tofu is pre-cooked and kept refrigerated so they can assemble the dish quickly. I had the mushroom miso broth which was tasty. As I see it the problem is that they don't keep the broth very hot because they don't want to ruin the nutritional value of the Miso. Understandable. So it would be wise to cook( better) or reheat the protein( not better) to order so it doesn't lower the temperature of the broth which is already not very hot. I asked for a remake and it was done . The egg in it was lovely. I hope the chef takes this constructive assistance in the spirit that is given for one professional to another. It's a great addition to the vegan food scene here on Maui.
