The only woman I trust with my hair is Sue Hyun, this little Korean lady that I've been going to…read moreall my life. The salon is a bit of a hole in the wall and hasn't been updated since the 90s, but I'm happy her business is still standing throughout this dumpster fire of a couple years now. Sue is honestly the only one I trust though and my entire family has been going to her all my life. While my hair is relatively low maintenance, I still don't trust just anyone with Asian hair so if you're reading this and have Asian hair, I can guarantee you'll be in good hands with Sue and really, if you're in the area, why bother trusting anyone else? My mom has really difficult, curly hair, and even she religiously goes to Sue. Her only minor complaint is that Sue sometimes cuts her hair a little short, but the hair grows out really quickly, so that's typically no big deal. If you don't want slightly short hair, then just tell Sue to cut it a bit longer than you might want and then it'll hit perfectly where you want it to. My parents live out of state now, and when they were getting ready to leave, the only thing that made them really emotional to leave Michigan was having to leave Sue. They live in southern California now and even there, they have not been able to find anyone they love like they did Sue, they have barely even found anyone that they tolerate. LOL Every time my parents come back into town, they make sure one of their first stops is getting a hair cut from Sue! Sue is so sweet and always loves seeing them. When I go in for a haircut, which is typically not when my parents are in town, she always inquires about how my parents are doing, which is so thoughtful of her! Sue speaks very little English, she is Korean. My family and I are not Korean, so we mostly communicate with Sue through very short sentences, phrases, and lots of hand gestures! If you're first generation like I am and are used to dealing with your parents' probably broken English, you'll have a pretty easy time communicating with Sue - no worries! Her salon has always been at this location and it definitely looks a bit worse for wear these days. There are those perm chairs (what's the actual term for these) and stacks of old haircut magazines in corners and the space is actually really huge, but all that matters these days are the mirrors and haircut chairs, which is what continues to be well maintained, so I don't really pay much attention to the rest of the space for that matter. Lastly, Sue's pricing is also SO fair and seriously reasonable. When I told a different hairstylist what I pay at Sue's, she was truly shocked and was basically like yeah hold onto that as long as you can! You truly won't find a better haircut for a better price anywhere around here. I love Sue and honestly in writing this review, I am jonesing to get my haircut now - I am overdue for one, so see you soon, Sue! :)

Melissa has been cutting my hair and my mother in law's hair this past year. She is FANTASTIC…read more Every time I see her, she does something super fun with my hair. This time, I found out I have these beautiful natural curls. Amazing experience. My mom-in-law was so taken by the service (she's had her hair cut in other places the past 80 plus years) - that every time we speak, she asks about Melissa.

I hate posting negative reviews of a company or person but this situation unfortunately warrants…read moreit. I went to Flip Salon on Tuesday to have Melissa Maiullo cut and color my hair. I had a good experience with her straightening my hair before so I went back. I thought she was a good person who just messed up until instead of owning her mistake, she tried to lie, cheat and gaslight her way out of it. Instead of doing a good job on my hair she edited a photo to make it look like she did as an excuse not to refund me any money. If she would have told me I can't do what you want but I can give you regular highlights, I would have said no thank you and left. I NEVER expected her to fabricate a photo to skirt culpability. She sold her integrity for $365 and revealed herself to be an untrustworthy person with weak character and morals. The owner is going to comment about how the lighting in the salon made my hair look like that but Irene, you need to stop gaslighting me. I was in your salon under the same lighting that the (edited) photo was taken in and my hair looked nothing like it. Otherwise I would have left happy and been upset later. And that's not what happened is it? Stop gaslighting me. But if you're sticking to that then who wants to go to a salon that makes their hair look COMPLETELY different from what you went there for as soon as you walk outside? This all could have been solved so easily if Melissa said I'm so sorry, I misunderstood what you wanted and did something completely different--instead of doubling down on her lies and getting the owner to co-sign them. A little accountability from two adult women is not too much to ask for. Edit: Irene, you did not offer to fix my hair for free, you offered to re-tone it. Toner will not make my hair lighter and you know that. Also, Irene, you took the photo of my hair outside. How are you going to say it's just the lighting? I contacted Irene and said I would take my reviews down--all she has to do is retake the photo in the salon lighting and show me that I'm wrong. That the photo isn't edited. Instead of taking two seconds to do that, she blocked me. Looks like accountability is not in the cards for her.

I can't believe I reviewed Barberella 6 years ago!…read more Well, I still love Sandy! She's the best! I get tons of compliments on my hair. I have a pixie cut with striking red color. People stop me often. It's kind of funny! Some people think I'm a hairstylist because of my hair. I get carded because of my hair (cashier admitted this). I guess I look really "cool" and "young". I have changed my hair style and color many times over the years, and she just gets it. Great music and conversation with other clients and Sandy. Every visit is a good time.

What a terrible experience. I went in to check it out a few days ago after hearing good reviews…read moreabout it. Yes, the place is nicely decorated and sure, it gave off a chic image when I walked in. Too bad it was the worst hair experience I've had in my life. What a rip off. The assistant sylist shampooed my hair and used a green towel that smelled like it had never been washed. I sat in the waiting area telling myself to shut up and stop complaining, but seriously? It's a hair salon and should have clean, freshly washed towels ready. I asked Sandy, the main hairstylist, to trim my hair, which is (was!) almost waist length. I even specified how many inches (ONE!) I wanted off. Next thing I knew, my hair was shoulder length and she was humming along like nothing had happened. Are you serious?! Judging from the good reviews, I think it's fair to say that she does a good job most of the time. She is a nice lady and seems to take pleasure in what she does. However, I was EXTREMELY disappointed and dissatisfied that she didn't listen to me or even respect my request. I didn't go in there for a totally new hairstyle. I went in there for a trim, paid over $50 for exactly what I did not want, and now am seriously considering spending hundreds of dollars on extensions because it is such a drastic change. Thanks for nothing. Never to return. ***Ladies who take pride in their long hair, STAY AWAY!***
