Pricey, yes but She knows a lot and can help you understand how to care for your curls and the best way to enhance them. I have had two cuts with her the first cut was the best cut I have ever had in my life. I kept my length and she added some shape to it. It was like new life and bounce to my hair. The most recent cut is also great but I wanted it short and as most hairdressers are she was worried to cut my hair "too short" and me being unhappy about it. Alicia had already cut my hair like 3 times towards the end of my latest visit and I started to feel awkward about asking for it to go shorter. I just moved to the area and was terrified of finding another hair artist who could deal with my mix of wavy/curly hair. I found Alicia and I am so grateful - she was able to fit me into her schedule after the holidays on a Friday night AND she took care of me with my first Devacut. She sat me down, chatted with me about what I'd like to do with my hair, how comfortable I was with the current length, and to get a feel for some of my hair care concerns. She walked me through how to best care for my hair to get the most curl out of it, and then did her magic. At best, my hair was wavy with a few random curly spirals. Phenomenal! I've been coloring my hair for 20 years and I had yet to find a hairstylist in the Sacramento/Roseville/Rocklin area in the last 7 years with this expertise! She took one look at my long, blonde (natural color: dark auburn) hair, eye color, skin color and took it from there. I haven't been this happy with my hair since moving here 7 years ago. The time, effort and expertise she put into my hair was amazing. She spent 4 hours working on my hair because she needed to foil it from top to bottom to get the color she wanted just right and wasn't afraid of the time it was going to take her. She cut off all the dead hair but left me with plenty and I've gone from being a washed out blonde with a myriad of colors in between to being a lovely brunette with just the right amount of blonde/gold highlights. Alicia is A-mazing!! My curly hair is hard for most stylists to cut--even the ones who say they specialize in curly cuts. I was SO happy and amazed that she kept getting into all the spots that most people won't cut because they're too scared or not skilled enough!! Having several Deva Cuts before, I was prepared for the aftermath of my appointment. I usually smile politely, thank my stylist for making my hair "look good" and then proceed to sit in my car lamenting over my unruly, unstructured, curly mane and questioning why I even trying to love my curls. I found Alicia on the DevaCurl website. I read her reviews as well as her Facebook page and was excited to see what a level 3 stylist could do with my hair. Alicia returned my call quickly, which was very appreciated since I had not been seen for months due to the Covid 19 closures. She was enjoyable to talk to and knowledgeable about curly hair. She let me know her experience and training as well as what to expect at my first cut. At my appointment, Alicia was extremely thorough with explaining her thoughts about my hair and asked me what I wanted making sure that she understood what I like. I let her know that I was hoping to keep whatever length possible but really felt comfortable and excited to trust her with her vision. The level 3 cut was vastly different than what I was used to with the level 1 DevaCut. Alicia really took her time, assessing my curls and texture. She cut it according to each specific area (my curls and texture vary throughout my hair) as well as my facial features (what she could see with a mask on), neck, shoulders and collar bone. I could see an immediate difference! She also explained the best shampoo, conditioning and styling process for my particular curls. All this while wearing a mask and making me feel completely comfortable with all the new procedures that the pandemic has required for salon appointments. I realized how amazing my cut was when I washed it and put all her recommendations to the test at home. My style is so easy to maintain, my curls look beautiful and healthy! I personally get a DevaCut 1 to 2 times a year and feel that the price is worth the value. I continue to see the benefits of Alicia's cut weekly, loving my curls more and more! My family has even noticed the difference and commented on how great my curls look. All this with minimal effort on my part.
