Sadly, this lovely little park is invaded by a group of selfish men (and indeed a few women) that have a daily routine of getting drunk (and they become quite socially unacceptable with their habits.) They gather EVERY DAY from about 1pm just near the entrance to the children's payground gate and stay there, getting increasing drunker and drunker, louder and louder until midnight or so. it is very very distressing to nearby residents and I believe quite socially unacceptable. The men and women can be seen urinating wherever they feel like it. They get so drunk they ie down and screech and groan and have no regard for the noise they make. They shout at each other etc. Sometimes there are as many as 15 men. Late at night when the peace of the area is SERIOUSLY DISTURBED the local olice are called to move them out. The nearby church had the problem for a while but used private property laws to move this social problem into the Alice Saloman park!! Residents beware! The law allows public drinking and it seems little can be done to move them on. What a disgrace.
Until they arrive (around 1pm EVERY DAY) the park and the 1 bench in the park is used by local residents to sit and enjoy quiet moments. After midday however, this group completely monopolises the park and makes it an unpleasant place to go through and to be near. WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE? read more
