Back again for a terrific performance of MISERY. Having read the book, seen the movie and discussed it with Kathy Bates, I can definitely say that the performance was top shelf. I was impressed with the set(s) and the way in which they were able to effectively convey you through the story. There were only three individuals involved in the play (unless you count the two individuals tasked with rotating the set) and they did a great job. While Lex Friedman and Mike D'Altrui gave their all to their parts, Pamela Wilterdink was the absolute star of the show! The theatre itself is quite nice - small and clean with a nice concession stand. The popcorn was very tasty and a nice touch. read more

Just got home from seeing the okay, The Diary of Anne Frank. It was fantastic! The actor were outstanding. I left the theater feeling drained. I am astounded by the level of professionalism! Bravo!! read more

Be aware before purchasing a ticket - this theater enforces a strict "all sales final" policy, with no refunds if plans change. While some other venues I've attended offer exchanges or credits, here you're locked in, at least unless you pay extra for their "ticket insurance". For the ticket prices they charge, I expected more flexibility. Nevertheless, they put on good performances that are worth watching. read more

Charming theater, hidden in plain sight in downtown Manasquan. Good sight lines, excellent sound and projection. Run by a small professional staff, with enthusiastic and helpful volunteers during events. They offer a wide variety of plays, concerts, movies-really a godsend, especially in the offseason. Generally a smart, attractive crowd as well. read more

We saw Elf The Musical at The Algonquin on Sunday 12/17/23 and it was fabulous! After going to the McCarter Theatre in Princeton to see A Christmas Carol for years, we decided to pivot in 2023 after being turned off by the woke changes they had made in 2022. The Algonquin performers were spectacular and were in true Christmas Spirit. Buddy, Jovie, Michael & Santa were amazing. A must see! read more

I went to see a play and It was SO BAD!!! my kid probably could of done better there where only 5 actors and it was so short!!!

Attended a performance of Lorraine Hansberry's "A Raisin in the Sun"...the play was very good and the actors believable...the theater was in great shape...clean and comfortable...enjoyed popcorn and soda...the audience seemed to enjoy the play too, judging from the response and applause....a good time was had by all! This time it was "Jesus Christ Superstar"...impressive performance, especially from Judas, Mary Magdalene and Jesus...ensemble too...looked like a sell-out crowd...I didn't notice how cramped the seats were (I think I had an aisle seat last time)...parking was good but I recommend getting there early if possible. read more

Having grown up in Manasquan, the Algonquin was always apart of our community and was always a hot spot to see a great movie. My grandparents always used to tell stories about how they had their first date there... My family and I have been going to the Algonquin for the past few year, ever since it was renovated and is now a performing arts center. My daughter has been to a lot of their educational shows with her class, and I even enrolled her in one of their summer workshops last year. She had a blast and made great friends! It offers musicals, plays and concerts of all genres along with it's stellar educational department. read more

I have been to this theater numerous times, most recently to attend a performance of Angelina Ballerina. I was walking around Main Street in Manasquan with my daughter - just killing time - when we saw a poster for the show. We were able to go into the box office and buy decent tickets about a half hour before showtime for the first of two performances. The house opened on time, and there was a friendly volunteer to take my tickets (it seems that they have few staff members at shows, and volunteers are responsible for running the house - they do a great job, and it is great to see such involved and professional young people!) We went inside to the rather small lobby to the wonderful smell of popcorn, which was being fresh popped as we entered (places still do this?). We got in line at the concessions counter where we purchased a popcorn and bottled water (for the amount you got for $7, I was expecting less - not really that overpriced). Inside there were young girls dressed as ballerinas showing us to our seat, which my daughter absolutely loved. We took our seat and could see the stage perfectly. The grandma who sat next to me informed me that they had a pre-show event where they taught girls how to dance - how cute! At the beginning of the show, there was an actual person on stage telling about upcoming events, it was nice to not hear a recording! The show began and was not too long - about an hour - perfect for young children! My daughter enjoyed dancing with the cast in the aisles at the end of the show. On the way out, my daughter persuaded me to buy another popcorn for the road, and to buy some overpriced merchandise (probably not the theater's, I assume the show was a traveling show). A staff member told me to have a nice day on the way out, which was an unexpected, pleasant surprise. It seems as this theater really cares about their patrons, and I will definitely be checking out their website for their upcoming shows! read more

First timer to the Algonquin theater and pleasantly surprised at the intimate seating and quality acoustics. Saw The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and enjoyed it immensely. This place is a well kept secret that I would highly recommend. read more

This theatre would be amazing if the people who ran the theatre decided to have a variety of music and not the same generic attempt at a music or arts program. They could have many great singer/songwriters that come through the area, Jazz, Blues, and many Original music bands that might inject some good quality new music into the community. Instead, they cram everyone in with people who are overwhelmingly unfriendly, they complain about everything (I thought I was at a Bingo National Championship) and some of the biggest snobs you could possibly imagine. On a higher note the staff was very friendly and do the best they can. Algonquin Theatre (like many places in NJ) needs to get younger adults involved in deciding their programs or else it's just another theatre for a small pretentious part of the community. read more

This is a nice, well-run theater. However, it is small and the seating is tight with not much leg room.

Great little theater with a variety of shows. The theater was renovated a couple of years ago and the seats are quite comfortable now.

They have brought fantastic plays, musicals, musicians, and NYC standard productions to our shore. The staff really takes pride in their work and I will never forget their production of South Pacific! I love this theater and I hope you have the opportunity to see something here. read more
