The red curry and green curry (one with chicken, one with beef) were also both EXCELLENT. And for appetizers, we did a sampler where the chefs surprise you for €12/person, which was fun and also incredible. I really mean it. This place is goated. So so so good. When we walked in there is no table available however the lobby must half full but rest of empty tables had name marked on a small wooden board. After a few minutes of checking, we were told if we could finish meal in one hour we could take that table. We happily took the chance and ordered very quickly. Shared appetizers of chicken satay and tofu spring roll. Both are really tasty and especially chicken satay which we ordered second of it. I ordered beef noodle soup which is probably the best I have tried in Thai place. Broth was pretty tasty. Beef was cooked just right. A bit away from the tourist crowds, however this cafe was packed with locals and lots of university students. We popped in after the hike up and then down the path into town (great views at the top) after a blog recommendation of the city. The place is small but very cute with a bunch of small tables that can be grouped together (for 4 people), a high to for a bigger group and then some space at the bar on the side of the coffee bar. Over all it feels modern with creative art but still clean. Food ranges from breakfast to lunch. The menu is nice with 5-6 sweeter dishes, 5-6 savory dishes and then some soups and salads. There are a variety of coffee items, a bunch of tasty teas in huge glass mugs, juices and then seasonal drinks. We came for a late lunch and ordered warm drinks, the warm winter shakshuka, the fritters & the Guess Who's Back and some warm drinks! Everything was tasty and fresh. The sauce on the shakshuka was wonderful and had great flavor. The grilled cheese sandwich, Guess Who's Back, was huge, with crunchy bread and yummy caramelized onions and wasn't the typical over-gooey sandwich you usually think of. My fritters were great as a perfect lighter dish, with a side salad and smoked salmon and a great yogurt sauce to bring it together. Drinks were also good and the detox juice and fresh tea stood out. I…read morearrived in Heidelberg from Schwäbisch land (Stuttgart), where there were only two choices for a vegetarian: Käsespätzle und Maultaschen. And if one is lactose-intolerant, then one can only subsist on Kartoffelsalat :-( This restaurant fed me like I'd never been fed before! There seemed to be endless creations in vegetarian delicacies, both cold and hot, savory and sweet, that covered several long shelves. I would have had at least 3 full plates, if not for the reason that my local friend was paying for lunch - charged by weight - and I didn't want to empty her wallet :-). Weather permitting, there are both indoor and outdoor seating. It's a super popular spot that attracts many diners.

Once you have put your food you want on your plate you go up to the register and they weigh your plate. Depending on the weight is how much you pay. The service is fast and helpful. The wines by the glass are fantastic - my favourite is the Montepulciano - and they've a full selection in bottles. It's a wine bar so maybe that's expected; where they really excel is with the food. When ordering a main course, you're first treated to a flavourful amuse bouche. The steaks are top-notch, and the other mains (I've tried most of them) are large (sometimes too large), scrumptious and well-presented. The starters really stand out here too. My favourite is the Antipasto Italiano (great for sharing), while the salads are excellent too. Another favourite is the great-value, brine-cured mountain of Italian olives for €5.50. On ordering food you'll also be served freshly baked Italian bread, high quality olive oil with a slightly sharp bite, and sea salt. This is such a tasty combination that I find it hard to resist filling up on oil-dipped bread before the food even arrives! Finally, I love the friendly staff, who recognise and greet me every time, even though I live thousands on a different continent. Service is attentive and friendly by European standards; it's not the US so don't expect to be annoyed every 2 minutes by someone sniffing for tips and filling your water glass and asking how everything is. This restaurant is open late and takes credit cards - perfect for the jetlagged international traveller. They're located in Weststadt, right beside most of Heidelberg's international hotels. So you've no excuse not to stop by when in town.

We are lucky that we found this beautiful little spot super close to the Rhine River with great service and delicious food. We didn't have reservations so they accommodated us as a walk-in at 7:30 PM. We were lucky to get the last table and are very happy that we did so. They specialize in traditional German food, and I would classify this place as a casual spot with a very homey feel. Pricing is also very fair. The menu has a lot of great options on it and the portion sizes are quite large. Being our first visit, we wanted to try some of the more popular dishes and went with our waitress's recommendations for the entrée. To start I had the Beef Carpaccio, which was pretty good. Being that I'm Italian and I am very specific on this preparation and it wasn't quite as delicious as some other versions I had in France during this trip, but still, I really enjoyed it and I'm happy that I ordered it. For my entrée I chose the Die Metzgerei Cordon Blue, which is two schnitzels, in between hearty ham and cheese. It came with a side salad and honestly, I couldn't even finish all of it. The flavors were great, it just was a lot of food and I got through about 80% of it. We did not leave hungry and we really had a nice meal.
