For 25€ per person, you can see 15 to 20 caves and beaches with a bilingual English/Portuguese-speaking skipper who deftly navigates the choppy currents and the jagged cave entrances by moving the body forwards/backwards and from side to side. (They also have the 30-minute express tour for 15€ or private tour for 300€.) The highlight was the awe-inspiring Benagil Cave which was as awesome as expected. Praia do Carvalho, Praia da Marinha, Carvoeiro and other smaller beaches were cool to check out too. Since we went out during high tide, the boat tour did not stop for swimming inside a cave or beach (which is possible when sea conditions are better). The 75-minutes went by quickly and ended with a James Bond-esq beach landing (you'll know what I mean). Book online in advance to confirm a tour and check-in/pay 30 minutes before the tour. They are open year-round but will only go out to sea if conditions are safe. Plenty of free parking nearby. If you visit Algarve, going to the caves along the shore, especially the Benagil Cave, is almost a…read moremust. I had to do some long research on the ways to get to the cave. Swimming and kayaking is out as I had in my group someone who's not very athletic. Bumpy small boats may be too hard on some backs. Large boats, while safe and comfortable, cannot get up close and personal inside the caves. Finally I found this company that operates the "pirate ship", which sounds perfect. They have smaller boats that take people inside the caves once you arrive near them, so it's the best of both worlds. We really enjoyed the tour. They have some pirate music going on but didn't overdo the theme to the point that you feel you are crashing a children party. The Algarve shoreline is indeed gorgeous and dramatic, especially against a backdrop of blue sky. Once we get near the caves, half the boat will get down the ladder onto smaller speed boats to take an up close look, while the rest continue to cruise around on the pirate ship. One of the small kids did get too scared to go down to the small boats. They do give us enough time to snap photos and I got so many great ones. The ship supposedly have wifi though the code didn't work. No big deal for me as it would be a shame to be staring at the phone instead of beautiful nature. The meetup point is at Clube Naval de Portimão, which is near the Sardines Museum, so I'd recommend set aside some time to take a quick tour before or after the cruise.

I have hired some cars in my life and I have also worked in the hotel sector so I know what toexpect from car rental agencies usually. As I originally wanted to rent from Luzcar in Lagos over the 1st of May and was rejected due to floods of people who had been faster than me, I walked just down the street for 50 m close to Lagos Marina where I came about the inviting-looking car rental that had bikes and scooters for rent as well, standing in front of the garage. As I walked into the office I was immediately greeted by two ladies who both seemed very well spoken both in Portuguese and English and made no fuss. Easy car rental deluxe. Patricia offered me, right from the start, the cheapest option that would still include the "Teilkasko" insurance on the road. For a 24 hour rent, 40 Euros, which is Un-Beat-Able! For an additional 8 Euros, I went for the Vollkasko, the careful German that I am. I got a small car, filled with gasoline and she even showed me around the whole car to make sure we both agree on the little marks in the car paint. She even made sure I knew about the fact that the highways are going to be tolled, but that I would be able to get whereever I wanted to go in the Algarve on the national roads anyway. And by the way, the unlimited mileage is included! I have seriously never felt more safe when renting a car, because normally, you never know about hidden costs here and there. Here, the staff is straight to the point, well-educated and supportive. I can only wish them that they keep up this great service and I will surely come back for their services on my next vacation and tell my friends about it.

We booked our Kayak Tour off Viator, and they booked with Dolphins Driven. There were 3 adults and…read more2 children in our party, and overall there were only 12 adults total in the group for the tour. Options were available for single or double kayaks which was nice for the kids to be paired with each adult, and that I didn't have to pair with a random stranger. The guide spoke english, and was able to answer any questions we had. They took us out to sea via boat and then we got into the kayaks. The water was calm, and even though I was a bit tired - we got to go for 1.5 hours and it was not too challenging. I gave it a 4 out of 5 for 2 reasons: The first was that there really wasn't any instructions, safety briefing or what to expect before getting into the kayaks. It was as simple as hold your paddles here and have the paddles facing this way for forward. It may be an american thing to expect a bit more, but for never kayaking before it made me a bit nervous to not have instruction. The second was that we didn't see the Benagil Caves. We had booked via viator for a Benagil Cave Tour, and the Dolphins Driven promotional photos included photos of the Benagil cave - so it felt a bit misleading.
