I found Fernando on Marketplace. When he came to evaluate the job, he seemed professional and claimed his team had done many deck staining projects. He explained the proper process--sanding, power washing, and then staining--and I was impressed by how confidently he spoke, so I hired him. He even showed up ahead of time to coordinate with my other contractors, which gave me more confidence. But on the day of sanding, things took a turn. He arrived with his wife and an elderly woman. The older lady was using a small handheld sander for the entire deck floor, while his wife worked on the edges using the same tool. Fernando mostly stood around supervising. I asked him why he wasn't using a proper floor sander, and he told me "that kind of sander doesn't work properly," which made no sense considering industry standards. They finished sanding and power washing a large deck and shed floor in under 2 hours. When I checked the work, it was clear that nothing had been sanded properly. Old paint was still visible, and the wood was rough, splintered, and not ready for staining. When I asked if they were done, Fernando casually said, "We only scratch the surface." I was shocked. Despite my concerns, I still gave him a $800 deposit, trusting the rest of the job would be done right. Later, I had other contractors inspect the work, and they were all shocked by the poor quality. I called Fernando to let him know I wasn't confident in the work and asked for a fair partial refund. Instead of responding, he blocked me and cut off all communication. He knew he was in the wrong and refused to take responsibility. This experience was extremely disappointing. Save your time, money, and peace of mind--do not hire Fernsuar Contractors.
