I am not from France and I am sure there are protocols that I am unaware of. I am a huge advocate of restaurants and promoting their businesses on Yelp and other traveller apps.
As I was washing clothes across the street for an hour I had observed the employees standing on the sidewalks waiting for customers as it was noon and no one was there.
I had just ate a large brunch elsewhere and decided this would be a good time to have a dessert while I waited on my clothes.
I went in and was not greeted but asked what I wanted. Then asked if I was going to eat dinner. I stated no, but I explained I was there to have one of their desserts (10.00 euros) and was going to order a coke (5.00 euros). I was told I was not welcomed there that this was a restaurant and not a cafe. She was not nice at all. It was apparent I spoke zero French, but her English was just fine.
I suppose 15 euros minimum is chump change but being polite goes a long way. Btw I've waited another hour for my clothing and they still have zero customers....... Possibly it was luck that got me out of the door. read more
