They…read moreasked us where we were looking (Mountain View, Sunnyvale, Santa Clara, Milpitas), budget, must haves in a home, etc. They gave us a book that covers the basics of purchasing a home and includes a timeline for closing. They connected us to the Compass website to view home listings that fit our descriptions. They created a group text chat, so we can ask them questions at anytime. The next day, we were already viewing homes. Every single weekend for about a month, David and Cathy would show us homes. They pointed out things that we didn't notice, and helped us avoid homes that look good in the listings but had big and little problems. Some things they pointed out were cracks in foundation, uneven flooring, and David's astute nose detected faint cooking odors that's hard to get rid of. Cathy would go over disclosures and inspections reports almost page by page, explaining what's normal and what's not. When we finally found a home that we were ready to make a offer, David and Cathy worked quickly and aggressively to help us win the bid despite there being several other offers. They were there every step of the way. When signing our closing documents, Cathy was present to answer any questions. Even the notary commented that many agents are not there during signing. As first time homebuyers, we were clueless about home ownership, but they made us feel at ease. Thank you for helping us find our first home!

    Based on his numerous good reviews, I messaged Stephen early last August about the possibility of…read moregetting a United Wholesale Mortgage (UWM) 15-year fixed home loan at 1.99%. This was a new program announced by press release, which I read about in a Yahoo! Finance article, through a link on Google News. Having worked previously in real estate and finance, I knew what the key points were to our situation, so I included those in the message to Stephen, asking whether he would be able to do the loan. Stephen responded abruptly by saying that he would have to talk with me by phone, to discuss "details." After I called him, he proceeded to try to browbeat me into accepting a different program at a higher interest rate. His approach was to use old-fashioned psychological pressure tactics, along the lines of: "Are you so naïve that you think you could actually get such a loan? That rate is just a teaser that you would never actually get." He was crude, demeaning and even insulting. I informed him, politely, that I had a background in real estate and finance, so I was not naïve about these things, offering him one last chance to do business with us, if he was so inclined. But he insisted that the loan would not be possible for us, so I thanked him and said goodbye. Shortly thereafter, I found a straightforward loan broker who in fact did the loan for us, on exactly the terms I had in mind: 1.99% 15-year fixed, with a reasonable fee. We closed in less than three weeks and none of the things that Stephen said were obstacles turned out to be an issue. I am pleased to report that my wife and I are now enjoying substantially lower monthly payments. BOTTOM LINE: If you want someone with an "old-school" approach to sales--involving psychological games, pressure tactics and absence of transparency (resulting in your not getting the best deal that you could)--Stephen Wong may be a good fit for you. She cares about her clients so she does a thorough review of their cash flow to help her clients understand their true buying power so there are no surprises. I doubt if any of her clients are caught up in the subprime lending debacle! This speaks volumes because she is honest about what her clients can and cannot afford and will not jeopardize anyone to benefit herself. In this market where one might need to go against all cash offers, Christine ensured that we were not penalized in the bidding process for having to take out a loan. Furthermore, after we won the bid and sensing that mortgage rates might rise, she recommend that we lock in the rate that night. We did, and the mortgage rate went up by 25 bps the next day! :) In short, you cannot go wrong by having her as your mortgage broker.

He is super knowledgeable and takes the time to answer all questions. He and his team were super responsive day/night/weekend and went the extra mile to ensure we closed smoothly even with an extremely complicated financial situation. The endless cycles of pre approvals of different amounts for different houses -some needed last minute- did not cause any problems. Most sellers' agents and our agent all knew/trusted his strong ability to close smoothly, so that gave us a little extra edge when competing with cash heavy offers.
