The food was tasty. So was the margarita.
Fairly close to authentic Mexican recipes. I'm from Phoenix, Arizona, so I eat Mexican food all the time and I'm from a region where there are literally thousands of authentic Mexican restaurants. Food portions here were small. When I finished eating, I was still hungry.
I walked in as a solo diner and was told that the only place I could sit was at the bar, on a rickety hightop chair. This was despite the fact that they had an entire dining room in back with almost no one sitting in it. But they were expecting a large party that had a reservation, for later.
I knew that I could be in and out of there sooner than that if they would just let me sit in back at a real table. And that's the way it worked out too.
I was there dining for over an hour, and the large party that had a reservation still had not arrived when I left. Thus, I could've sat in the dining room the whole time and had plenty of time to spare. But instead, I had to sit at the bar next to a pillar.
The person who waited on me would not have won any personality contests. Very short and abrupt. I almost left. But I decided to stick it out anyway.
The other issue that came up is that when I went to order my three enchiladas, I was told all three of them had to be exactly the same. In other words, I couldn't have one with chicken, one with beans, one with cheese, etc. Instead, they had to all be identical.
She told me this was the case because the place was "so busy" that she couldn't overtax the kitchen by asking them to prepare three different kinds of enchiladas for one diner. I thought that was nonsense. And it was. At the moment I placed that order, there were a total of seven customers in the whole establishment, and some of them were only having nachos and drinks.
Bottom line: the food here is fairly tasty, and the atmosphere is kind of a nice "hole in the wall" vibe. I like those things. So you can try this place if you don't mind being forced to sit where you don't want to and forced to order your food exactly the way they want you to. read more
