During growing season I'm told they stock a good deal of the fresh produce from their own farm. I found some varieties of beans I'd never heard of before, like cranberry beans and yellow-eyed peas. They've got some other things like you'd find in a standard grocery store, like PET milk and a few varieties of juice. The space isn't too fussy - concrete floor inside, a dirt and gravel parking lot. It's clean though, and they've got shopping baskets and plastic bags for carrying fruits and veggies. The prices are at least comparable to a chain grocery, if not better on some items. For example, their eggs are between $2 and $3 per dozen. Feels like what a farm market should. I'll be going back regularly.

That is totally reasonable so we made the truck over. When we arrived however, I thought we were in the wrong place. It has an industrial feel, not a farmers market feel, and there were no markets going on outside. As a matter of fact, the only market was indoor with about a dozen or so stalls. We were disappointed, but I wanted to check it out so my husband remained in the vehicle with our dog. I looked at every market stall inside and I was in and out in about 5 minutes. Having produce doesn't make something a farmers market. It just felt like walking around local grocery store. About a third of the vendors were fruits and vegetables and the rest were knick-knacks and t-shirts and miscellaneous items. Also, it was incredibly empty. I mean I understand why. I did find a new cider to try but knowing what I know now, I would most likely not make the drive again. I realize I'm not from the area, but this was no different than any local grocery stores to me.

We were pleasantly surprised by the superb quality of their offerings. Their zucchini and squash were flawlessly presented. They had beautiful strawberries by the bucket. Their frozen meat products were plentiful and they had an array of honeys, jams, and relishes. Ice cream is very much on the menu at the farm whether it be on a cone, cup, or in a shake. The best part was going in the back with my wife where she picked wild flowers (no charge), along with sunflowers (huge). I highly recommend visiting the Johnson Family Farm. Some friends invited us to come pick and they had amazing blackberries we made into a cobbler as well. The kids had a blast, even after I put them to work. This is a pretty small farm with limited picking hours, but absolutely worth the trip. It's gorgeous up there and it looked like they were having some kind of farmhouse dinner after we left. We'll all keep dreaming about those apples until we make it back to Asheville!

Today when we went they had fresh local ramps and strawberries along with a large assortment of other general produce. Fresh eggs, cheese, bacon, etc. They also have dried beans and jams. There is a huge selection of plants to choose from! Whether you want beautiful flowering hanging plants or vegetable starts to put in your garden, they have them. Really very reasonable prices. We had to get a couple of tomato plants to plant after Mother's Day!
