Tried La Perla for a picnic dinner at the park . The food…read morewas very good...I had carnitas tacos...and my wife had tacos all pastor. They came with a spicy salsa and green salsa. It was very good...as good as any taco I have had from a truck or tacqueria in a city. The service was so so. The menu is only a full menu on the weekends apparently...theres no beans..no lengua and no barbacoa etc. Just tacos al pastor....steak....chicken or carnitas . Literally no one speaks english...and I speak terrible spanish so it takes a minute to get an order across....and the guy at carryout wasnt terribly interested in being helpful. Nice enough but too busy to be bothered much by a couple of anglos with no spanish skilz. The store had a good array of hard to find favorites...nopales and huitalocoche even. I will return for the tacos but would probably try to go at a less busy time so ordering was a littlw easier on everyone.

The food here is ok but apparently they want to lose a customer over refusing to refund an item…read morethat was not given, like I don't spend enough in their expensive store on a regular basis anyway. Or, I did. This person must really need 50 cents badly to actually ignore a customer and to refuse a refund. Your business will not last if you do not have the management skills to back up cooking skills. And this is a small area. When a customer asks you why you charged them something, they are not just asking. It is theft. I expect an answer when I ask that question. My receipt clearly shows a custom charge of 50 cents, for a side of sauce that I did not receive. It was actually supposed to be a dollar because I ordered 2 sides. I sent a message and was told that I was not charged, end of reply. I replied that I was. Instead of sending a refund, they sent me a copy of the current receipt that clearly shows a 50 cent custom charge on it. I am not the blind one here. I messaged again asking what the charge was for, if not for the sauce. No reply. I am also tired of tipping on takeout just to have no one check the orders and for it to go out wrong, no more. What is the tip for? It was 2 items, juice, and some sauce, not hard to get right. Tip in cash only if your order is correct. A normal response would also be to apologize for getting the order wrong to begin with. I have not received another response or a refund so I take it that they feel entitled to take money for items not given. It is not about the amount of money, just the audacity and bad business practices. Shameful behavior. There is nothing special about the menu here so something better will eventually take its place.

She has mastered the art of being there when you need her while also giving you your space if you need it. The entire house had a nice, laid back charm with all of the modern conveniences that you'll need. I loved sitting on the quiet back porch, while my teen daughter enjoyed the free wifi to do whatever she needed to do. The evening appetizers and wine were lovely, and she even offered tea or lemonade to my daughter. In the morning, we came down to fresh brewed coffee and coffee cake to munch on while she made our breakfast. Nancy was the perfect host, she gave great recommendations for enjoying the area, and even gave us great tips for visiting Chicago when we left - she is a former resident.

Our favorite time of day is around 5pm when she saunters out of the kitchen with cocktails and appetizers. She also does not serve breakfast at the butt crack of dawn, which we really appreciate. When in town, take her advice on heading over to Sawyer for the market and Greenbush Brewery. The gourmet hotdog shop and Middle Eastern restaurant served delicious food and ambience. You are the bomb, Nancy! P.S. Sorry it took me 7 months to write this review. Lynn Ackerman
