10/10 recommend picking apples here instead of at County Line Orchard! Garwood had a variety of…read moreapples available for my husband and I to pick (and for cheaper than County Line because they charge a set price for a box rather than a weighted bag). Their country store also has pretty much everything you'd find at other orchards (donuts, cider, pre-picked apples, grocery items), but it feels less tacky and kitsch than the other orchards. Going to Garwood made our day after we were swindled into paying admission at County Line when they had no apples to pick!

We stopped by Garwood Orchards for raspberry and strawberry picking. We purchased the smallest…read morecontainer for raspberries and a large container for strawberries, spending a total of $45. After a short tractor ride to the fields, we started with the raspberries and were able to fill our container in about 20 minutes. We then moved on to the strawberry fields. After spending an hour and a half in blistering heat, I was only able to fill about one-quarter of the container because there were virtually no strawberries available. Everyone picking alongside us seemed equally disappointed and frustrated that containers were being sold despite the lack of fruit in the fields. What made the experience even more frustrating was the no-refund policy, which meant we were out the money regardless of the poor conditions. I understand that crop availability can vary, but customers should be informed when fields are nearly picked over or offered a refund or alternative. Unfortunately, this experience was extremely disappointing, and I would not recommend this place to others.

But my sadness was quickly laid to rest because the new owners are just as enthusiastic about the farm and their produce as the previous owners. What do I mean by unique? Well, this time I found long bean which is commonly utilized in southeast Asian cuisine. I love adding it to many different types of salads. I simply wash it and cut it up and add it raw. Its delicious and healthy and once again I have never seen this at a mid west farm stand. This farm also produces very good honey. The new owner is also attempting to try growing some grapes for wine making and of course I purchased a bottle of his young red wine that has not been aged.

The property is expensive and the staff was welcoming and told us where to go for the best batch at that time. Not all berries ripen at the same time.
