Went in today to get a Butterball Turkey for $.99 lb. I ended up getting the rest of the meal, but I was soooo disappointed they had NO Butterballs! They had another brand for $3.49 lb. It would have been $45 for a turkey! Ended up going to Target! And the check out girl was super rude when I asked to check if they had any in the back. Happy Thanksgiving! read more

Recently opened in Menomonee Falls, this has got to be on of my new favorite stores. It's brand new, so it's gorgeous! This store is impeccably clean and well organized. The aisles are clearly labeled with contents, and the products are arranged very orderly, complete with clear price signage. Located just south of Woodman's, basically in their parking lot, this store is easy to find and has plenty of parking. Aldi is known for value. You'll find lots of inexpensive groceries, produce, frozen foods, meat, dairy and seasonal, specialty items like kitchen gadgets, home goods and garden items. Plus, they sell beer and wine. I admit, I love their wine selection. With almost nothing over $10, I can buy a decent bottle of wine to enjoy. Today, I bought their Prosecco, for $7.99, which I've purchased before, and it's totally solid. read more

I just went on for some water softener salt they usually have, but in the winter they all seem to stop selling the yellow bags, and start selling the blue bags, but I don't like the way the blue makes my water tastes, so I passed on the purchase today, and hopefully they get the yellow bags in March or April read more

Their prices are creeping up and getting much closer to the full service markets. Aldi is not the great deal it once was. And they're out of more and more items from their already limited selection. Today, they were out of more than half of their normal produce selection, and out of 3/4 of their already small meat and fish selection. It looks to me like this store might be closing soon read more

Aldi and Trader Joe's are owned by the same giant German supermarket conglomerate but you'd never know it. TJ's is cheery, with brightly colored displays and some of the friendliest employees on earth. Aldi's on the other hand, is institutional at best - most items are displayed in large boxes vs. shelves, the fluorescent lighting is depressing and you won't find any helpful staff running around. Almost everything is prepacked or processed including produce. You'll have to pay a deposit for a cart and pay for bags if you neglected to bring your reusable totes. So why shop here? Well, like most things it comes down to price. Aldi is the cheapest out there, hands down (even as compared to Woodmans). They buy in bulk and most everything is private labeled (and often identical to "brand" name items). You won't be able to do all of your shopping here but you will save considerable money on staples. This particular location is better-than-average for an Aldi's - very clean and organized. For me, the only time that I feel the need to make a special trip here is around Oktoberfest when they import a whole bunch of German market items. Bavarian soft pretzels FTW! Nothing fancy here except decent products and very competitive prices. This is no frills grocery shopping but the savings can add up fast. Aldi's is a German family owned chain that also owns Trader Joe's & the two couldn't be further apart. Bring your own bags & be ready to load them yourself. You can rent a shopping cart for a "refundable" quarter. 'Verlassen der deutscher' or: leave it to the Germans! Customer service is almost non-existent except for the security guard roaming about. You will usually find only one checkout lane open despite six or more people in line. . The real secret here is all the very cheap snacks that greet you when entering. Great tasting potato chips, cookies, crackers, popcorn, tortilla chips & so much more, all around $2 bucks a package. That's just the beginning, for just about everything you need food-wise is here but all in just one size and one brand. There are dairy, produce, frozen food, and even a small meat department along with lots of canned and household goods in a warehouse format. So bring cash or a debit card & most recently credit cards are accepted. Come see for yourself how much you will save! read more

I decided to check out the Aldi grocery store in Watertown since I am new to the area. This may be a "green" store, but they are on my blacklist now. I have been coming to Wisconsin for a year and it has taken me that long to finally meet someone who was rude and surly. Turns out it was my cashier, Rose. First of all, you need a quarter to get a shopping cart. No instruction, but one of the customers was kind enough to advise that you have to put a quarter in the cart to unchain the grocery cart and get permission to use it. OK, lesson learned. Selection was fair, produce was good, prices were good. I went to check out and there was one cashier and six people ahead of me. Lots of checkout lanes, but no one to help. No biggie, I could wait. I had my own grocery bag so I didn't need to buy one. I got up to the cashier and asked if they accepted credit. She mumbled something at me. No eye contact. I asked again. Nothing. Then I figured out she was talking to someone else (maybe with an ear piece?) She finally said they accept major credit cards.The customer ahead of me grabbed a few groceries out of her cart and was on her way. Then the cashier started throwing my stuff in this lady's cart. I said, "Oh, I have a bag," she ignored me and kept hurling my stuff in this other cart. I figured, okay, I can bag them when she's done. She cast the receipt my way and I started to bag my groceries and wheel out the cart. She came running after me, blocked my exit, and said, "I need that cart," put it back near her checkout and left me standing there like an idiot. I still don't know why she did that. I felt humiliated and belittled. It was a horrible experience and I will go to Festival, Pick and Save, Pig-Wig, Costco, and any farmer's market before I return to any store in the Aldi chain. Do not go there the first time by yourself. You need a guide to figure out their systems and someone to bring a quarter if you don't have one.
