    Aldi in Lakewood
    Agnes I.

I'm so glad that I've started going to Aldi because it is way cheaper than the Giant Eagle I used to frequent. I love Aldi for the wide range of products available including more and more organic products. I will say that the produce here is hit or miss. I bought apples here once without really looking at them and when I got home I noticed that all the apples in the bag were brown and looked bad. I was able to go back to return them even though I had already threw out the receipt. So I appreciated the great customer service and I was happy to have gotten new apples without paying for them again. I will say that I prefer the Rocky River location because at least the produce I've bought from there was fresher than the ones at this location. Side note -- This location is currently under renovations but the store is still open during renovations. I do not know exactly what they are doing during renovations but I heard that they are expanding the store. I'm excited to see how the final look will be once the store renovations are complete. *** This is my 93rd Yelp review overall. 47th review for 2018 (aiming for 60 reviews in 2018).

You know how it is at Aldi - hit or miss on all fronts. Either they're clean and well stocked or they're like a grocery store in Orlando as a hurricane bears down. This one is the former. Clean and pretty full of items (depending on when you hit it, they were 100% out of bread on a Tuesday) and has cheap wine (yay!). Of course you have to deal with the whole we-built-this-store-with-five-lanes-but-only-have-one-or-two-open thing but that's Aldi everywhere. It's worth it to get out of there with 7 days' of food for $25. As always, cash and debit are ok, credit and checks are not.

So called organic bananas still green after being purchased 8 days ago.

It was a highlight of the trip! The market is right downtown in a gorgeous old building, make sure to look at the ceilings. There are public parking areas all around outside, but it does get busy. There are also side buildings and outdoor stalls nearby, so be sure to check them out. Inside is rows upon rows of amazing local vendors with food to enjoy there, or many items to buy and take home. Meat counters, fresh vegetables and fruit, sauces, Middle Eastern food, Greek, Mexican, Gyros, sandwiches, baked goods, salads and so much more are all over. Even stalls that repeat the same types of items have their own unique spin and history. It's busy, with people everywhere looking and enjoying their purchases. Prices are reasonable, especially how fresh and local everything is. I bought a bunch of small things to eat while we walked, together we bought shishkabobs and steak to enjoy at home the following day. It's a great place to shop local!

Visiting West Side Market on day two of my trip confirmed a few things for me:…read more 1. Cleveland is seriously underrated as a city. Food and architecture are two areas where it deserves far more recognition, and this market showcases both beautifully. 2. I'm coming back. 3. There is absolutely zero chance I stay in a hotel next time. I need a place with a kitchen. When I return, I fully intend to walk through this market, buy from no fewer than 10 stalls, and somehow end up preparing enough food for 25 people--even if it's only my family of four. The specialties here are endless. The uncooked pierogies nearly broke my heart because I had no way to take them home and cook them myself. Sausage lovers will be in heaven, and beyond that, you'll find incredible produce, fresh fish, quality proteins, and a wonderful representation of the many cultures that make Cleveland what it is. All of this is housed inside a historic building with stunning architecture that makes the experience even better. Pro tip: Climb the stairs to the second floor for an incredible bird's-eye view of the entire market. It's the perfect way to appreciate just how special this Cleveland landmark really is.

I think the advantage to this CSA is you can pick your weeks and only need to order a week in advance. This is all online ordering and the system is sometimes goofy. I couldn't figure out my username and it turned out I was missing a capital letter. But, this was solved as the administrator was able to figure out what I did :-) Otherwise, I pick mine up in Euclid, but there are many locations all over the Cleveland metro area. It helps to expose you to new veggies (never tried kolrobi until this) and they are high quality and fresh. Some are organic or use organic practices (it is extremely expensive for a family farm to have that label). The facilitator is super nice and often brings extra fruit to sell with your pick up. They even were able to get me a pumpkin for me to purchase. Another nice thing is they subsidize the cost for people who are 200% the FPL (which to put in perspective is people who wouldn't quality for food assistance). I have told many of my friends about this because it is truly a fantastic program.

City Fresh has expanded their locations so they now have pick-up sites all over lorain and cuyahoga county. Last weeks share bag had acorn squash, peaches, green and red peppers, cilantro, corn, egg plant, carrots, lettuce and apples. As the weather changes they expect to see more squash, pumpkins and apples. Seriously, if you are big into supporting local, non-profit businesses and receiving amazing fresh local fruits and veggies then there really is nothing better than city fresh. It's pretty easy to sign up. You just have to go to one of the locations to sign up for the following week.

Found my new produce stand at the WSM--done and done…read more I'm a CSA gal, Fresh Fork to be exact, but sometimes you just need some extra ingredients and that's where Rooted In Cleveland comes in. Here there is no question where your produce is coming from--most likely it's from across the street at Ohio City Farm! Yep: the farm that helps refugees find work and teaches them to farm to make money (Refugee Responce)... the farm space that helps people in need find fresh produce while also supplying local restaurants in Ohio City with tons of homegrown goodies. That farm! The stand has pretty much all seasonal items, but when I stopped by last week they had everything I was looking for. Herbs, root veggies, tomatoes, greens--yum! I'm not sure what the stand will look like in the winter months, but I'm sure they'll have something out there that's delicious. Their FB page says it best, "We're a seasonally and sustainably-oriented produce stand at the West Side Market providing local and organically-minded specialty produce." Prices were way cheaper than Dave's Supermarket and pretty on point with the rest of the stands. But what really stands out? No yelling or selling! That's right--no one at the stand will try to sell you or trick you into buying overly ripened produce they don't let you see first before they throw in a bag. In general, just picture this: You're fighting your way through the produce wing at WSM on a Saturday afternoon, then you turn the corner to suddenly find a peaceful place where you can take a breath of fresh air and buy bad ass local produce. Yes, that was a bit of a run-on, but you get the point. Hint: It's near the Ohio City Blooms stand.
