Also, the food are still in the boxes so that shouldn't bother you and you have to watch the size of the containers because the prices are incredible. But then look at how many ounces you're getting. Tonight, my wife and I went to the ALDI at Hamden Plaza to pick up some things she needed for cooking. When we went to pay--and I don't want to sound racist, since I'm a person of color myself--the cashier shouldn't just toss the food into the cart; you're paying for these items, after all--they aren't giving them away for free. When she finished scanning and I was swiping my card to pay, she shoved the cart and hit my wife. I asked to speak to the manager, but he sided with the cashier and told us we had to leave. How can they have people like that working as managers? And the cashiers show up looking so unfriendly. I didn't need her to get on her knees and apologize; I just wanted her to handle the items I was paying for with some care. Was very excited when an Aldi came up in our area. The store has been well maintained and stocked. The staff is always very kind and helpful. I truly appreciate the expanded line of vegan and gluten free items. It truly is so money saving for those of us who favor them. read more

Bargains here are snacks and cereal. Milk, eggs, meat are the same as the major supermarkets. Prices went up fast since they first opened. No great savings here and there's usually long checkout lines. Started out great then went to no real bargains. read more

I lived in Hamden from 2019-2023. I shopped in ALDI every week during the period. The store has fresh veggies and fruits and nice quality products of the house brand. Brand new Aldi store located in the hamden plaza. Right next to Bob's stores. Very bright, clean, and easy to read signs. Today was only their 2nd day open, so you would expect everything to be orderly and clean!!!! They had a very nice selection of fruits, veggies, (prepackaged) deli meats/cheeses ... and their prices are really hard to beat. Just like every other Aldi, bring your own reusable bag, and .25 if you want to "borrow" a carriage. What I liked about this new Aldi compared to the older stores was the way the veggies and fruits were displayed and all bread had over head lighting making it easier to see. Love Aldis but they should really check the produce, brought these 8/23/20 opened it 8/23/20 and this is what it looked like. I often look for the best looking produce when shopping. This isn't the first time I had this experience with the produce. Still a fan of Aldis but they should definitely should pay more attention to the produce. read more

I am so glad the Aldo's opened up I'm Hamden. Tired of the other places ("Stay in Hell, and Shop Wrong") and their meh offerings and high prices. This Aldo's is new, and clean. Prices are reasonable. The one in Wallyworld is kind of white-ghetto, and is dingy. My only complaint in the beginning is: So far, they have been inconsistent with the glutenfree offerings (and placement), which is the MAIN reason I am there. I also heard about a glutenfree hard cider, but have yet to see it. I start out with 5 stars because it's shiny-new and clean. I'll update 6 months to a year later (maybe more), and we'll see if it turns into another Wallyworld. I sincerely hope not. read more

The cashier was extremely rude. There were 2 registers with lights on and I walked up to make my purchase at the same time as another client. The other person went to one register and I went to the other in an effort to maintain social distancing. I unloaded my carriage onto the belt and after I finished the cashier from the other lane yelled at me that there was no one there. Thus was after watching me unload a full carriage! I then had to reload my carriage and instead of taking me next she sent me down the aisle to the end of a line that was now six persons deep. Absolutely no customer service.... read more
