While in Copenhagen, we stayed in the suburban neighborhood of Frederiksberg. It was a cool neighborhood, super local (didn't see tourists).
One day we were waiting at the bus stop, which happened to be in front of Aldi. Aldi is a discount supermarket chain in Denmark.
Whenever traveling, I love to visit supermarkets and shops, to see how the locals live and eat. It's a great way to get an insight on how people around the world live.
Not knowing anything about Aldi before walking in, I noticed right away this had to be a "discount" shop, just by the layout. They stock their items still in the original boxes, as to where normally you would see more order and "niceness" at supermarkets.
Not being from there, I wasn't familiar with any of the brands they sell, like in the US, you have Oreo cookies, then you have a knockoff brand like L'Oreo cookies or something similar. This store could be off-brand, I'm not sure. However, prices are cheaper than other markets.
The line was long and only one cashier, so I ended up putting the bottled water I was going to buy back, so as not to miss the bus outside.
If in Copenhagen again, I would probably pick a different market to do my shopping, but for those who live in the area, this would be a nice convenient place to come grab something in a pinch. read more
