Aldi is an awesome company. Yes, it takes a while to give up the illusion of the Name Brand. But like previous reviewers have said, it's the same brand, different label. Also, Aldi charges for bags to pass on the savings to their customers in the form of lower food prices. And, FEEL FREE TO BRING YOUR OWN BAGS. Their gourmet line, Grandessa is awesome. They also have the best tasting frozen chicken breasts (6-8 per bag) for about $6.99. Try getting that elsewhere. The money you save there is worth it. Take your savings to the other grocery stores to pick up your specialty items you can't at Aldi. The only thing I wished they carried is Organic Fruits and Veggies. To those saying they won't make it, they already have, DUH. They are well established in the midwest. They just started expanding into the East Coast and already are planning on new locations in NYC. I am so excited about this new location in the Bronx! Finally :) The first Aldi I went was in Georgia about a year ago and I fell in love. Seriously...pineapples for $1.00 and bananas for .39 cents a pound when everyone else had them for .59 cents.....you cannot beat that. I have 3 cats and its expensive to feed them canned food. The cat food they carry has different flavors even for the pickiest cat for about the same price you would get 9 lives when its on sale. My cats love their brand and I save lots of money. Their canned tuna is dolphin safe and tastes great both the dark and the albacore and the price is really affordable. Anyway I could go on and on about the deals but you should go and see for yourself and don't be afraid to try something new. read more

This is wonderful! I love the aldi's upstate and this is just as good, if not better in terms of organization, stocking, and so on. The staff was relatively nice as well. So affordable. I eat for health so I appreciate their "fit and active" line. I think the food is good quality, as good or better than store brands at pathmark or so on. I bought a bunch of boxes of crackers - value for the dollar was good, but when I got home and opened all four boxes of different crackers, I ended up tossing them all out - THE AMOUNT OF SALT WAS INCREDIBLE ... i COULDN'T GET AWAY FROM THE OVER BURDENING SALT TASTE, WAY WAY WAY TO MUCH COFFEE, PREPACKAGED 'BRICK' WAS EXCELLENT AND PRICE PER OUNCE WAS FANTASTICK LARGE CANS OF CAT FOOD VERY REASONABLE I bought their brand of corn chips and compared with my favorite, Fritos, these were actually better. There was a point where I didn't shop for groceries and health food stuff but Whole Foods because I believe in freshness & cleanliness. But Aldi is not only totally affordable!! Never have enough cash register employees working. Lines get long. They offer pretty much mostly generic products, but everything is pretty cheap to buy so I come here often. They don't offer free bags and charge you 10 cents each so I suggest bringing your own. Make sure you bring a quarter for the shopping cart as there is no other way to get it unless someone leaves one stranded. read more

Pros: very low prices, clean, they let cashiers work while sitting on chairs, selection is pretty good with most of the essentials there. Can't beat a box of donuts for about $2! Cons: need to advertise they are there (found them by accident driving around) read more

It is so great to have and ALDI store sorta close to Westchester NY. I would say the aggregate savings is in the neighborhood of 35-40% compared to Stop and Shop in White Plains. It is clearly worth the 20 minute drive. read more

The only grocery store ive been to that makes you PAY 7 FUCKING CENT FOR EACH OF YOUR GROCERY BAGS. People was literally walking out the stores appearing as if everything in the cart was stolen. Horrible service off that fact alone. Highly recommend major distributors for food shopping. read more

They sell really delicious chocolate. Different types and flavors. Very reasonable prices and really good. The have a company produce the chocolate only for them. The dark chocolate is the best and I really love the Orange and almond bars as well. The chili dark chocolate is tasty too. read more

I tried my new local Aldi today, with high hopes for a grocery store in the south Bronx that finally had decent items and decent prices. The prices were good. The selection was minimal especially for produce, milk products and meat. There were plenty of chips, sodas, junk food, etc but fruits included a few beat up apples, a few oranges, green bananas and mangled mangoes. I love that they ask customers to bring their own bags or pay .11 a bag there. We all have homes filled to overflowing with plastic bags and we should be re-using them. What will prevent me from returning is the surly, rude, and impolite customer service. I studied not only my cashier but all those working. The cashiers couldn't be convinced to smile or say hello if you paid them double. They slam your purchases into their own carts at the end of the counter, which you then bag yourself - bagging myself is fine, of course. I just prefer that all the produce I just carefully selected because it wasn't destroyed to not now be destroyed in the process of paying for it. I brought my own cart, and when I asked the cashier to put the items into my cart instead of into her cart, you would have thought I was asking for the most insane, unreasonable, ridiculous thing imaginable. The eye rolling and additional slamming of my groceries was enough to convince me that will be my last trip to Aldi. Even when the manager was called to approve my coupon, I was not greeted with any eye contact nor hello, nor was there any kindness in approving my coupon, which simply needed to be scanned. It wasn't a sham, it wasn't a fake, it wasn't me trying to ROB THE SYSTEM, it was a valid coupon issued by Aldi that I was using at Aldi. Good grief. read more

Used to love buying from there until I started noticing my orange juice had green stuff inside of the container... I even drank a small portion of that, and really prayed I didn't get sick. Contacted the supermarket, even though they're right, they weren't able to help me because I didn't have proof of purchase, or the actual container, since I thew it out immediately thinking it would be contaminated with some contagious disease. After that I bought a pack of apples about two weeks ago and had one to eat, and had brownish/blackish specs inside of it... This place needs to inspect the things they bring into this store.. It can definitely cause a safety hazard if they aren't careful! But I learned a lesson. Everything you buy, save the receipt. I figured, since I paid in cash for the items, I didn't need a receipt. I was shopping in the store and was discriminated against by a cashier. I was an Aldi customer since October of last year. I was amazed how we were treated. I am disgusted with their customer service. They had a great staff when the store opened. It's now been changed with the accept ion of 2 people. The Aldi store on Gun Hill Road is really good. They have a wide variety of products, the workers are really helpful and the prices are very good. The only complaint I have is the security guard who drives around the parking lot in a little white truck is disrespectful and condescending to customers who frequent the store. For this reason I have decided to stop shopping at this store. I will be back when he is replaced. read more

I have not heard of any comparisons of Aldi to Fairway, however it is true that the offerings are sparse, they do not bag your groceries, they also charge for bags. You must also deposit a quarter to use a shopping cart (you get it back when you return the cart) and most importantly, they don't accept credit cards. I don't think any of that will change in 6 months, as Aldi operates a huge chain of stores, all of them operating the very same way and doing well. They do have some prices that are very competitive, but you must also consider that brand names are almost non existent. Their store brands are of high quality, however when a name brand is on sale at another local supermarket, would I pay more for a no name brand at Aldi -- of course not! This neighborhood lost three supermarkets in the last few years. Aldi is bringing groceries to this area at fairly low prices, but I too would like to see a full-service supermarket. I think that it could do well here, and I think Aldi will be successful as well -- once we get used to they way they operate. read more

For those who complain about Aldi.I am from Europe and Aldi provides quality food at very reasonable prices. Aldi is well known in Europe. Just because you cannot find the brand names you are used, does not mean that the quality of the food is not great. Why do you think you know brand names? Because they spend a lot of money on advertising which is what you, the consumer, pay for.The people in the Aldi store are very polite and extremely helpful. Whenever I want something and it is not on the shelves, they go out of their way to look if they have it. If not they are able to tell what day to come back. If it was possible I would give Aldi 6 Stars or more. read more

I'm always surprised how low the total bill is at the checkout. It seems like it's one third or more less than other supermarkets. The selection is limited but what they do have are great bargains. I highly recommend it. read more

If you have the time to shop wisely, you can save a bunch on quality stuff, but some of it is not worth it. For example: 6oz greek yougurt for 89cents & its pretty good, just limited flavors. Also, some of the frozen stuff is exactly the same as what you'd get at Trader Joes (Taquitos). A gallon of milk for $3, avacados for 69cents, etc. The first time you go there, you may get burned on some stuff, especially the no-name junk food. Use your noodle (the spaetzle was great). The other downside is that like Trader Joes, your favorite stuff may not be there the next time you go - the merch changes. read more

Thank God there is an Aldi close to me! If it weren't for this market, I would be going hungry right now because my hours at work were dramatically cut and haven't been able to find to fill in the hours elsewhere. Rent and everything is going sky rocket! I know there are alot of families going hungry and Aldi can make a difference if there is one average income. Brand names is just that, a name you pay extra for and make somebody else rich. I now plan meals according to sales which I never thought I ever do. I even recycle the bottles to put it towards the next grocery bill. Times are changing and its not for the better. So people, start planning and saving because you will need it. Today I went to Aldi to save money and ended up braking the bank. The prices inside was worth the trip however, while I was shopping someone was in Aldi's parking lot vandalizing my car and no one wanted to take ownership. Aldi's manager told me I need to speak with the parking lot security and the parking lot security told me Aldi is to blame because they don't want to pay for the security cameras or extra officers. I had every right to think my car was safe because I have never seen any signs stating park at your own risk. I no longer feel safe shopping at Aldi. i am one of the crazy shopping customer with aldi. most of my households and foods are purchased from aldi stores. sometimes i spent over thousands dollar for couple of weeks with aldi but there's a thing which made me feel so horrible with aldi is about their customer service attitudes and their knowledge of hospitality. i have many times to stand with their unfriendly talking. hard to see a smile or thank you on their turn to me. lots of time i asked for more informations of their products or conditions of using and i got their cold face in silence or just say : " sorry i am so busy" or " sorry i don't know " so many times i have felt terribly with their bad english communication or discrimination - you can find these out especially at aldi store at fairfield west nsw. they gave no respect to customer and it is not hard to realise they do not need customer and look customer down as their thinking they are the feeder for customer. it is unacceptable a rude and so bad customer service remain for years in australia aldi theirself have even not listened to customer. what can you do if you would talk to them by email? can you find aldi email or customer feeding back or complaining on their main website ? who can correct and let them know? these existing make me so hurts and getting so badly feeling of aldi australia !!! how to see them to be an educated customer service? I live in Brooklyn some years back I wanted to try out the cici's pizza restauart that just out in the Bronx after enjoy my pizza I need some groceys items so I stop in at this food market saw that it was like a BJ food market only you do not have to buy a $50.00 card wish it think is great that alone save me money also their prices are low wish saves me money cici's pizza close down but I still plan to return to this market to do my shopping I gave this food market 3 stars in ratings for greatness but a 1 star in location traveling out there is not great read more

If you NEED to save money then go here. The food doesn't look that fresh to me and there was ONE cashier open. I purchased some cocunut ice cream bars (among a few other items) that tasted horrible! The cold cuts were too salty and of course there's no deli counter. I saw a pack of pork chops that looked brownish. I'm not trusting it...I'll stick to my regular supermarket.
