I had a very disappointing experience at this Aldi today due to my interaction with the cashier, Sophia. Before she even began scanning my groceries, she insisted that I insert my payment card first. I politely asked why I had to provide my card before my groceries were even rung up because I have never been required to do that at Aldi or any other grocery store. I also explained that I may have wanted to split my payment, which wouldn't have been possible to determine until after my order was totaled. Instead of calmly explaining the process, Sophia became rude and argumentative. I asked to speak with a manager five separate times. Each time, she refused and told me there was only one other person in the store and that it "wasn't her problem." She then went as far as telling me to get out of her store, which was completely unprofessional and unacceptable. While I was waiting to speak with a manager, I observed other customers checking out and noticed that Sophia did not ask any of them to insert their payment card before she began scanning their groceries, which made the situation even more confusing and inconsistent. I was honestly left speechless by how I was treated. Regardless of store policy, customers deserve to be treated with respect and have reasonable questions answered professionally. Sophia's attitude and customer service fell far below what I would expect. read more

The line is always long since they got rid of the self-checkout. You would not be surprised to see a long line stretching to the end of the store, with 30-40 people. I switched to Lidl, where there are more varieties and easy to find a parking spot. read more

Getting rid of the self-checkout lanes was such a bad decision. This store used to have 5 self-checkout lanes, and now there are usually only 1-2 cashiers, so the line is always ridiculously long. Half the time it stretches all the way back to the meat and dairy section, which makes it hard to even shop because people are just standing in the aisles waiting to check out. And if there happens to be an employee stocking shelves with one of those giant carts back there too, good luck. What used to be a quick trip now turns into a whole ordeal. read more

ALDI - Never ending line that stretches all the way to the dairy/ meat section - Grocery Near Me - Bowie, Maryland

This Miles cashier was the worst person ever. Rude dismissive and just threw my groceries in the cart without a care all my stuff was squished. What's the point of coming up to the checkout just to have squished groceries????? Terrible I would love to speak to a manager about how awful he was. But he is the manager somehow. Great management I see why the store was filthy and had cockroaches in it. read more

After friends and some family hounded me to try Aldis because it's "cheaper"and "better", It's safe to say I'm not a fan of this grocery chain. First you need a quarter for the cart. Cool concept cuz that deters lazy bums from taking all the way back to their home. The store is unorganized and no aisle signs. Let's start with produce. They don't have a variety. You won't find exotic produce. Sometimes fruits are bruised and over ripe. They are always out of bananas and dont buy strawberries. They rot fast! As for the items here, yes it's cheap here but the brands aren't as good as the big names. Some ppl swear it's the same thing, I honestly will tell you it's not. When I do come here it's always one person on the floor and one cashier. Avoid weekends and when they're about to close. read more

This review is based on pricing only and quality of certain products. I've been buying their Heart to Tail cat litter and the small tin cat food for years . Overnight the cat food went from .59 cents to .79 and the litter has almost doubled in the past 2-3 years . Unfortunately the quality of both has gone down drastically. The litter doesn't clump like it used to and the food is like past . My cats barely eat it because it turns to a paste like texture and sticks to the sides of the bowl , GROSS . The prices of lettuce , butter , fresh chicken wings , beef , bbq sauce , and name brand items like cookies , cereal , cleaning products, are now priced the same as Giant and Harris Teeter . It's disappointing to see they've too gone on to the " greed- flation" business model. I'll be watching the apps to navigate where I'll shop and spend my money because Aldi is now just as expensive as all the others . Bummer read more

Please add cash option to the self service checkouts. This store has only one checkout with a customer rep, and those with a few items who want to use cash have to wait until that checkout with rep is clear. Walmart and Giant have self checkouts have cash options, Aldi should as well. read more

I think Sue K. spelled it out best in saying that you either are, or are not, an Aldi shopper. This is what a grocery store looks like when it's run by a team of accountants with a customer service flair. BUDGET FRIENDLY - You can get a heck of a deal. It is cheap, but at the expense of the Wegmans ooh and aaah factor. Rent your cart for a quarter. Bring your own bags and bag the food. Buy knock-off store brands like "Baker's Corner" instead of Betty Crocker. Grab the products off of their pallets instead of neatly stocked shelves. Know that some items are just for the week and might not be there next time you shop. But WHAT A DEAL! No sarcasm. HEALTHY OPTIONS: There's a line called "Simply Nature" that doesn't have artificial colors or flavors and steers clear of unnecessary artificial additives. Unlike other brands that invoke "nature" and "natural" in their labeling, reading the ingredients on these products gives me warm fuzzies. One of my toddlers gets sick if he eats artificial dyes and additives, so finding this line has been great. The unsweetened applesauce, tortilla chips, and salsa for this line is a snack time staple in our house. The organic, free range chicken broth is another cooking staple. WELL-PRICED MEATS: Full disclosure, I prefer to buy meat like a hippie. Free range, animals fed a vegetarian diet, locally sourced, organic. Aldi is not the place for that. They do have the organic, free range chicken broth in boxes, but that's all I've seen. Go to Mom's Organic Market two shops over for organic stuff. BUT when I cook for a large group, which happens a few times each month, that's too expensive. So what you get at Aldi will fit the bill on price, but I sort of cringe a little thinking of the conditions those animals lived and died in. That said, everything has tasted fresh. SATISFACTION GUARANTEED: They stand by their guarantee. I promise this is experience was an exception, but recently we got some ribs for Sunday dinner (which were amazing and delicious the two other times, I swear) that we refrigerated for 3 days and when we opened it for dinner on the "use-by" date, it STUNK to high heaven. We took it back to Aldi and the manager not only refunded it, but comped the chicken we were going to buy on that shopping trip, too. I will keep coming here as a first stop. Things that I can't buy here I get either at Mom's Organic, Safeway (on Fairwood), or Costco in Woodmore, depending on the item and the quantity needed. But Aldi will always be the first stop. read more

Love Aldi!!! Great organic food and fruits for less! Upon entry into Aldi, make sure you have a quarter to borrow a cart. You will get the quarter back when you return the cart. There are many odd and ends for sale like appliances or toys. Again, everything is reasonably priced. I like to buy the cashews and almonds unsalted. So much cheaper than other places. The registers try to get you out as soon as possible. They are quick and efficient. read more

I needed some ingredients and was in the same shopping center so rather than head over to the named places one traffic light down I thought I would give Aldi a try... What was I thinking?? In a vain search for asparagus I entered and began to wander what looked like a distant cousin of a Sam's Wholesale Club... kinda. They have items arranged for bulk sale but also have smaller sized veggies and some frozen food. But no real rhyme or reason to the consistency of what they carry. Next time, head to the supermarket and get what you need. This place was just not for me. "The Good" - Nothing really good to comment on... "The Meh" - Nothing really meh to comment on... "The Bad" - The poor cashier seemed to be the only person in the place and could not really handle the multitasking involved in her position. - The asparagus that I did find had fruit flies inside of the cellophane packaging ... not dead ones mind you, but actual flies flying inside. Now this may seem like a sign of freshness, but they were put down and your favorite bald guy left the building. I am cool with farmers market and having wildlife land, pollinate and even steal some of the food I am going to eat but when there are flies trapped in a tomb of asparagus ... Well, thats when I draw the line. and yes.... I did give them a second chance. read more

You know what! My whole perspective on Aldi has changed! I always thought of Aldi as the place to get mostly cheap, frozen, and unhealthy food. However, today, I was discussing with a friend that my doctor told me to eat more fruit and veggies. She told me that you could get affordable, good quality fruit and vegetables from Aldi and somehow we ended up making an impromptu trip to this location. And you know what? My friend was right! A bag of baby carrots for 99 cents, a bag of grapes for $1.50, and a seedless watermelon for about $2. No complaints there at all! In addition, the store is clean and staff are very nice. As we were browsing the fruit, one employee gave us a friendly greeting as she restocked some of the fruit. I definitely plan on becoming more of an Aldi shopper as I have two other locations near where I live and I'm on a pretty tight budget. Aldi is also a good place to get snacks for cheap as well. Just don't forget your shopping bags and a quarter for the shopping cart! read more

You either are, or are not, an Aldi shopper. The only way to find out if you are one or not is to try it. I am and will continue to be one. Why? Simple economics. Aldi has good stuff at reasonable prices, great prices compared to much of the competition. Why? You have to deposit a quarter to get a cart and you get the quarter back when you're done. This means the parking lot and the store isn't littered with carts and some shoppers won't have a cart in the store, which makes the isles easier to find parking and to navigate when the store is busy. This is primarily a private label store. You aren't paying for the advertising associated with "brand power" or the shelf space required to offer every thinkable brand in every possible size. There is usually only one "brand", one size, and a few flavors, to choose from. If there are national brand name items on the shelves, it's likely a special buy and it won't be there next time you visit...so if it is something you really like and a good deal, stock up. Otherwise Aldi mostly carries brands that it holds the trademarks for such as Baker's Corner, Clancy's, and Chef's Cupboard. You are your own bagger. Bring your own bags or grab a few empty boxes from the big wire basket that is sitting somewhere in the store, otherwise you'll pay 8 cents for each paper bag or 10 cents for each plastic bag you buy and you'll need to estimate how many bags you'll need, because you pay for them with your purchase. If you hate bagging your own groceries, don't shop here. It also means that when you get home and you have broken eggs and smashed tomatoes, you have only yourself to blame. You must pay for your purchases by cash, debit, or EBT; no credit cards, no checks. Never expect anything exotic and don't expect to get out of season produce. Normally the produce selection is the staples: lettuce, tomatoes, potatoes, onions, carrots, lemons, limes, broccoli, zucchini, apples, oranges or clementines, bananas, etc, and while there are usually a couple of tomato and apple varieties, for most produce, like the dry goods, there is one option. My biggest issue with this store is not Aldi's fault...recent installations of additional stores (new buildings) in the shopping center have made getting in and out of the parking lot harder and reduced the volume of parking spaces available while increasing demand for those parking spots....there used to be parking where that big chain drugstore is located and an exit where that new chain steak house is :-( I suffer through by going early in the day or going to another Aldi location when I am running about on weekend errands. read more

So from time to time now, I've been venturing into this store to pick up things for myself and my daughter. I can always find good quality off brand products as well as brand items as well! The prices are very reasonable! Cheap even! This location is clean and quiet compared to the other locations I've gone to! Aldi provides good products at inexpensive prices! I will take that! Ps, bring your own bags and don't forget your quarter for the shopping cart! You get it back once you return the cart! read more

I just don't get the negative reviews here. I am happy to take home more organic food for less than what the average grocery store sells non-organic variants. Walk down the sidewalk to Mom's Organic and get the exact same product for twice as much (they do have awesome free lemonade there though). There is a Giant down the street if you want a cut of meat they don't have, but Aldi is way more efficient than the big box stores and I appreciate the savings going to my next tech gadget rather than paying the overhead for lazy customers. There aren't kids being paid minimum wage to walk around all day long outside and collect shopping carts. They don't give away 10,000 free plastic bags a day to customers (bring your own bags or be prepared to pay a few cents a bag). They only have 4-5 people working in the store at any given time compared to the 20-50 people at an average grocery store. In some parts of the store they leave products in their boxes rather than pointlessly stacking and re-stacking them on shelves all day. And yes, you have to rent the shopping cart with an upfront deposit of $0.25, and return it when you are done to receive your quarter back. You can eat better for less here. This one in Bowie is one of the cleanest and well run Aldi's I have ever been to. After almost 5 years, shopping here once a week, I have yet to have a single pricing error. It is amazing to actually pay what is advertised. I can't go to Giant or Safeway twice without them overcharging me for something. As long as they keep it together, I will keep shopping here each week. read more

This was my first time at an Aldi's and I have to admit it was quite an experience. First, I didn't have a quarter for the shopping cart so I had to run around and get that. Then the smallness and limited choices kinda threw me for a loop. Then, the way the aisles are set up are meant to keep people from just running in and out. Finally, the checkers are super fast and, zing!, the foood is in your cart and out of the line lickety split before I realized I had to bag my own stuff. Thankfully I had my own bags. That said, there are some items that are dirt cheap. The bread. The almond milk, the honey mustard (there was only one left and I almost missed it), The fruit is decent although the apples are small. Bottom line is that the Aldi experience is what I hear from everybody who's ever been there. It's very cheap for some limited items. I only selected 1 star because it would not allow me to post without doing so. But if I had a choice I wouldn't give this Aldi's any stars. I went in this Aldi's for the first time today and the cashier I had (which was the only cashier at the time) was rude to me. But I noticed that she was not rude to other customers who were Caucasian. She never greeted me or said anything. When I was leaving she yelled have a nice day in a sarcastic manner. It was as if she was trying to cause a scene because of her ignorance. I didn't like the treatment so I in turn went back in the store and returned all of the products that I purchased. When I came back in I saw her whisper to another cashier whilst looking at me. At that point I knew she was up to no good. Just looking for some drama. I am not going to spent my money and be treated like crap. read more

This is my weekly go-to. I can quickly and efficiently choose my regular products and occasionally find something in the "Aldi Finds" section. I can be in and back out very quickly. Most products are Aldi brand which I have found to be exceptional across the board. However, there aren't a lot of choices as in the big chain stores. The checkers are efficient, though some tend to toss items a bit roughly. The total price for my shopping is always quite reasonable. This is one place where there will be an orderly parking lot as folks tend to return the carts to get the quarter back. read more

This aldi is terrible even for aldi. I get it... bare bones grocery store but that doesn't mean the employees have to be rude. This aldi has the worst selection compared to other aldi. I'll spend an extra $10 to get it all at 1 store + get treated how a customer should. read more

Aldi's has the vibe of a small European food market. There aren't many name brand options, however you can stock up on tons of basic staple foods that are good quality for cheap! Fresh meats/dairy/produce etc. I tend to feel disoriented and overwhelmed at larger stores like Giant and Safeway, however Aldi's is great for being quick, basic and good. You get your quarter back when you're done). read more

I really do like this market but the availability of items is soooo unreliable. There already is a limited number of items to support an entire week meals then what one can get isn't even on the shelf when I do go there. On average I can get about 75% of my needs.I don't understand why the store is barren after the weekend. The store doesn't do well at restocking for business. Really sucks, I do like their products and prices, when I can get them. I would recommend but not as a primary grocery store. read more

I love Aldi's prices, although sometimes a nearby Lidl has the same thing for less, but the customer service at the Bowie, MD store leaves a lot to be desired. They have completely different employees than they did several years ago when their customer service was fantastic. I once asked the manager if they were out of a special sale item. He not only walked me over to where the item should have been and found there were none left in the freezer. But, he went into the back and got me the item I was looking for. But, I doubt if the employees who are there today would do the same. I had the same thing happen to me in November of 2018 that Shen P. Bowie, MD posted a complaint about on 6/11/19. I went into the store only to return an item. There were only 2 registers open and both had very long lines, many with overflowing carts. I spotted a female employee near the registers who I thought was in charge because it appeared, from the conversation she was having with 2 other employees and the way she was pointing, that she was directing them to do something. When she was done, I asked her who I could see to get a refund. She said that one of the cashiers could give me a refund. I told her that I really didn't feel like waiting in a long line to return one item, and she just kind of smirked, like she thought it was funny, and walked away. I filed a complaint online with Aldi about this incident and was told it was forwarded to the regional or district manager, but I never heard from anyone. Today, 7/23/19, at approximately 10AM, there were two check-out lanes open. One had the light on and the other one had the light off but the cashier was still waiting on a customer. I assumed that she would be closing after she was done waiting on her current customer since her light was off. But then, I watched two other customers walk up and start putting their merchandise on the conveyor belt and she didn't tell them she was closing. I had only 9 items to purchase and was in the line with the light one, which was much longer and included two people with completely full carts, so I moved over to the other line. When I was checking out, I asked the female employee if her light was burned out or not working. She asked, "What light?" with a tone of, "What are you talking about?" I pointed to it and said, "The one that should be on if you're open." She said, "No" in a not so pleasant tone of voice. I told her that I thought she was getting ready to close and I was in the other long line with only a few items to purchase, but then I watched 2 other people get in line. She didn't say anything in response. This is not the first time I've had a problem not knowing if a register was open because of the status of the light. Last year, I had pretty much the same thing happen as today. The light was off but the cashier continued to wait on customers, so I got in line. But when I did, she told me that she was getting ready to close. Yet, she waited on two other customers ahead of me when her light was out. Also, another time last year I walked up to a check-out lane that had the light ON and the employee told me she was getting ready to close. So, I got in another line but she did not turn off her light. Three other customers tried to check out at her register and she told them she was getting ready to close. Finally, I yelled over at her that if she was getting ready to close, she needed to turn her light off so customers wouldn't keep coming up to her register. I don't recall what she said in response, but then another employee who had been stocking frozen foods in a freezer not too far behind where I was standing came up and interjected herself into the conversation. She said that her light was on because she was still waiting on a customer. I told her that I understand that, but if she was getting ready to close, she needed to turn her light off so customers will stop going to her register. The employee continued to argue with me. It's like she didn't understand why the cashier needed to turn her light off if she was still waiting on a customer. read more

we've been here twice now and the other reviewers have picked up the main issues; if it's in stock, it's a good price but you have to select from what they have available. Bring your own bags or buy theirs if you want. The carts you "rent" for a quarter. The cashiers are friendly despite the warehouse ambiance. I really love Aldi but since my most recent visit I felt the need to express my concerns regarding customer service. Today's visit was prompted based on my need to make a single return. Upon entering I realized there were only 2 cashiers open and the lines were really long extending into the grocery aisles. I noticed an Aldi worker exiting a door and proceeded to stop her to inquire about returning my item. She abruptly said, "you need to wait in line, I can't help you". I was appalled, as a regular Aldi patron, the lack of customer service and tone from this employee was unacceptable. Was I surprised that only two lanes were open and the lines were long? No, many people love Aldi as much as I do! I was surprised in the way my concern was handled by this particular employee. Customer Service 101: be helpful to your patrons, even when you don't feel like it. I'm sure there could have been a better delivery to her telling me I would need to wait in line like everyone else with carts filled with groceries just to make 1 return. So disappointed.
