This is a new store which opened on Thursday 15th October 2020, this branch is located on Atlantic Street and replaces the branch formerly located on Davenport Lane, nearby. As you begin to enter and walk around the store, you can tell it is new, the layout is actually much nicer than many other Aldi stores, it feels modern and the selection of some items, including dairy products is pretty good. I do find the fruit and vegetable section here however to be pretty bad, compared to other Aldi stores, with many items regularly running out of stock, which is a shame. Some of the prices are good, but again there are many items which are the same price or possibly even cheaper when there's a promotional offer, at many of the nearby supermarkets, whether that's ASDA down the road, or Sainsbury's and Tesco, who both have large locations in Altrincham town centre. I did find the checkouts to be a little messy, this is common for Aldi, but I thought they could have done something different as this is a new store, again there's no self-scanning area and the checkouts just appeared to be more of a free for all than anything. I couldn't get what I came in for, but this certainly isn't a bad store when supported by the other nearby supermarkets. 3*

I like how their handheld scanners are easy to use, to scan as you shop around the store, they seem to be much newer than other Waitrose stores, making them easier to use - It would be a great idea if they fixed their app in order to support scanning on mobile phones, similar to what is on offer at ASDA and Sainsbury's. The staff in-store seemed friendly and happy to help, the product range is good, they had a wide selection of products in most areas, including a great saving on certain items including Pizza Express' gluten-free pizzas which were on offer at £2.50, considering the price is normally £4.50 at Sainsbury's and £5 on Ocado, this is a great saving. 4* - Good, modern supermarket with a decent selection of products, one of the better supermarkets in Altrincham, it is a shame it isn't closer to the town centre and the bus network isn't too reliable, I do also think the checkout areas could have been better laid out, but all in all a good store.

The store is really large, especially for a town centre location, it has multiple bridges going into the store, I did initially get lost working my way in and somehow ended up going in through the employee entrance, the main entrance, however, seems to be through a sheltered car-park and then up a very steep travelator or a lift. The checkout and payment system seemed to be much easier to use than other stores, while they still have the handheld devices to scan as you shop (sadly they don't have a mobile app similar to Sainsbury's and ASDA), it seemed to be a newer interface on both the tills and the scanners, which made them quicker and easier to use - it looked better too, everything was clearer which I liked. The facilities in the store are good, there is also a Vision Express opticians as well as a Tesco Mobile Shop and Cafe. The staff around the store seemed friendly and happy to help, and they did have a good selection of products. I do find their booze area could have been managed better, as well as one aisle, they seemed to have different bottles on random corners, they could have been more together, sadly I couldn't find my favourite brand of rum, Dead Man's Fingers in stock. 4* - Good store overall, getting in and out the store could be easier, especially for pedestrians. The to-go food area could also be slightly more extensive for a store of its' size, and also didn't include a coffee machine.

Public transportation links aren't too great from here, but it is just under a mile from Altrincham Interchange and Navigation Road Station, if you're heading here on the bus you'd get the most services from the Cheshire Cheese bus-stop which is close to Altrincham Retail Park, but there is a large car park if you're coming via car. It's still a decent store with a pretty good-sized clothing section and toiletries, I did find certain sections to be lacking, however, mainly in the fresh/fridges areas, the cupboard areas was also poor with probably the worst selection of bottled drinks I've seen in most supermarkets, they only had one flavour of ice tea, in comparison Tesco seem to sell at least 3, and Sainsbury's go one up again and have four, they weren't even out of stock, there wasn't just a place where it could have gone on the shelf. 3* - Not too bad in the Broadheath area but there are multiple better supermarkets in and around Altrincham.

While it isn't the most modern of Sainsbury's locations in terms of appearance, the store was clean, I also liked how they had bags at the entrance for those using Sainsbury's Smartshop, this is such a simple thing to do but many supermarkets seem to forget this, so I'm glad they do this here. The selection is generally pretty good in most areas including dairy, free-from, beverages and alcohol. In certain areas, I don't find the labels to be clear, especially where many items of the same/similar range are packed together, I actually struggled to find an item which was right in front of me at first, because of this. 4* - Good supermarket in Altrincham town centre, but with many good supermarkets within Altrincham it has to do more in order to compete, I think it's doing that. This Asda Express Diner is the 'main' cafe serving Asda's Altrincham branch…read more I called in here while shopping at this branch of ASDA just over a month ago, this is basically the new format and design of ASDA's cafes, rebranding them as an Express Diner. The store in general is quite nice, it is modern and just over a year old as I recall, and inside the cafe is okay yet it is sadly nothing more than that. I asked about the gluten free selection, the staff members did look at me like I was an alien dressed as a human (I guess it was near Halloween after all) It was pretty noisy inside the "Diner", there were lots of kids running around, thinking they were Hector Bellerin or Frankenstein. The quality of the food was quite poor, it basically is really cheap here but the food is really cheap too, the potato just was hard, and it really wasn't very nice and I did have to repeat my order a few times as the member of staff behind the counter seemed to have the memory of a goldfish. They serve Seattle's Best Coffee here, a brand owned by Starbucks which doesn't use normal Starbucks coffee, most of the drinks here are slightly overpriced compared to the shop floor. Overall, this place sadly doesn't make the cut and deserves just two stars, as it is really cheap and I suppose some items would be okay to warrant the price.

The first time I went in there and bought a similar amount of fresh veg I found it hard to conceal my delight at the price. So hard in fact that one of the brothers asked me if I had expected it to cost me more! I have never bought my veg from Morrisons since. For a relatively small store they sell a wide range of produce (about 8 different types of mushrooms, 10 different types of potatoes etc) and I have never been disappointed with the quality. OK, so I definitely wouldn't eat any of the veg without giving it a good wash first, as it is often a bit grubby and has been sitting outside on a main road all day, and the shelf life isn't as good as supermarket veg. But give me a grubby misshapen apple over a polished supermarket apple any day! The brothers themselves are friendly and hard-working. My housemates often used to chat to them, and they seem to know their regular customers really well. Inside the shop there is a well-priced selection of herbs and spices, rice, couscous and pulses as well as the not so well-priced English essentials such as boxes of PG Tips and cans of Coke. To every Chorltonite's delight the opening of a brand new Tesco Express opposite the store doesn't seem to have harmed their business in the slightest. Long live Khawaja Brothers! Whether you're concocting a katsu curry or just seeking out some seasonal salad, you can do no wrong by making a beeline for this little place because it's fresh, it changes with the seasons, it has more ethnic ingredients than you can possibly pile into your plastic bag, and perhaps given the first three the most appealing factor... it's almost obscenely inexpensive. I was introduced to this spot by a good friend who waxed lyrical about Pakistani mangoes, also known as 'honey' mangoes. These are orbs of pure deliciousness, sold in handy boxes of 6 for £4.50. They taste like they should be twice that price. Keep them in your fridge and peel them at breakfast time, you shan't be disappointed. In other bargainous news, a recent offer had me reeling with incredulity - surely they weren't selling entire crate-like boxes of tomatoes on the vine? Check my pictures. Yes indeedy they were. Also, their giant dates are just exquisite. Once inside you can get tons of dry ingredients for any kind of world cooking you can imagine, loads of types of flour, rice, pulses... the list is endless. And on top of all that there are exotic fruit drinks and Halal Haribo. Yes, it exists! I'm more than happy to make the journey to Chorlton to grab some essentials (and indulgences) from here, the service is friendly and the location can't be beaten - right near Unicorn? If you're looking for a wide range of Indian or African veg then you'd probably be better off heading to Khawarja Brothers in Chorlton or Worldwide Foods in Longsight or Rusholme, but if you're after your two veg to go with your Sunday roast then this is a brilliant and inexpensive alternative to the chain stores. The fruit is always tasty and usually ripe (I hate getting stuff home from Tesco to find it's still rock hard and will take a week to be edible!) As well as great fresh produce, you can pick up a pretty decent array of Indian curry pastes, chutneys and pickles, and some really fabulous poppadoms (I recommend the red pepper ones) The best curry I ever made was with Madras curry paste bought from here, with Freshsave tomatoes, and beef from Axon's. Crisps, chocolate, and fizzy drinks are always on offer (I went in today and managed to get a 6 pack of diet coke for £1.70 even though the offer finished a week ago. Their loss but totally my gain.) The baked goods section is actually nicely set for a small store and nothing seems overly touched or hairy. Fruit and veg can be touch overpriced if you compare to Tesco down the road but I wouldn't go as far as to compare it with Lidl as, even as a student, I can't trust their fruit and veggie selection - almost everything is mouldy! Sainbury's own biscuits are some of the best I've tasted, again calling out to my (ex)student heart. I never use the manned till points as the staff are always a bit casual for my liking and the self checkouts have not let me down yet. I always mute the till lady though, she is far too bossy. Not that they're particularly exotic... but special offers are the name of the game here. Hankering to make a batch of banana bread? They'll sell their overripe bananas at reduced prices to get rid of them rather than waste them. This goes for many fruits. Offering to double-bag your fruit, chatting away to you - I felt like I ought to do *something*. Occasionally you'll need a late night fix or you might not be able to get to the Arndale, but goodness me, you should always shop here when you can. It's epic.

It is probably the largest Sainsbury's Local within the city centre and perhaps the second-largest convenience style store after Tesco Metro on Market Street, the selection is pretty good and I was able to find protein water I had a coupon for which isn't stocked in the other Sainsbury's branches in town. The checkout area is a little messy, they have cameras on some sort of tablet in front of every checkout which makes me feel they have a history of shoplifters and fraud here, it made me feel like a criminal. The screen also had no anti-glare protection meaning I couldn't see the screen as I was scanning due to the reflection of the sun-light, and this was on a day in February where it wasn't even too sunny, I'd hate to imagine how bad it could get in the summer. There's always special offers with bags of watercress, avacodos and peppers retailing at around a £1 and slightly more for things like pak choi, butternut squash and fennel. Towards the rear of the stuff there's a big deli counter selling fresh cheese, ham, proscuttio, olives, pizza and roast chicken and a bakery selling sweet and savoury pies, loaves of bread and crosissants. I've tried the sour dough and rye bread and didn't like either but I think the in-store butchers and fishmongers are brilliant. They sell incredible smoked salmon fillets, tiger prawns and fish cakes and British beef, pork, lamb and sausages for very competitive prices. If you're looking to stock up and don't mind a bit of a drive from the city centre, Morrisons is well worth the trip.
