They call me as soon as surgery is over and are open nice and early and until 8 pm which is super convenient. I drive 40 mins to go to this vet rather than any local ones. Highly highly recommended for small animals. :)

Our dog also attended puppy pre school some years ago and the trainer was friendly. However, over the years we eventually had too much of poor veterinary services to go back. Firstly a vet harassing us that our dog was not purebred and was a "mutt". What kind of shit person skills do you have to have to say that about someone's family member? And not to mention the fact that purebred dogs are genetically more susceptible to problems given inbreeding. If people are handing you hundreds of dollars to perform a standard service, you think you could be pleasant and hold off on rude, pretentious comments. Secondly, when my dog was in to get her nails clipped, the vet or vet nurse came back out with her, angry that we had not warned she may try to bite. It's a dog. Dogs can get angry when you do things they don't like. I've known that since I was a child, and was shocked that someone supposedly trained to work with animals was too ignorant to realise a dog getting upset was a possibility when clipping their nails. Thirdly, several years ago my dog was bitten by a spider. We took her here with classic symptoms, showed the bite mark, and were told the two issues were not related. They would do bloodwork and fix the bite (or in their case, mystery mark) after. We are unsure if this blatantly incompetent judgement was due to us suggesting the connection, or because it meant they could squeeze more money out of us. As our dog was extremely ill, we looked for another vet. It's been a number of years since we found the Blackwood Vets. They aren't a chain like this place. The vets and vet nurses care so much about every animal that comes through their doors. I will never ever go to a chain vet again, and certainly not my local one. Vets who genuinely care about the animals they see are worth their weight in gold.

The Clinic is professional and caring, like you want anyone taking care of your beloved creatures to be. Their facilities are fairly new as the place underwent a massive renovation a few years ago. While it could just be cosmetic, the overall size of the place grew, and you'd have to assume their equipment and resources did too. Always a reassuring thing when it comes to the vet's. Doesn't make the dogs any happier about going there though! Opening hours are also conveniently broad here for those of us who need to fit a visit to the pet in around working hours.

Pets are like children. No...seriously…read more... As a young cat lady, dog lady, budgie lady and fish lady growing up I went through many a vet clinic with one or multiple pets. But like a good doctor, you end up finding a favourite and sticking with them. Unley Vet is such a place. As my childhood friends (and pseudo brothers and sisters to said only child) began to get a lot older and more decrepid, we would rely on the caring and loving nature of the local female vets at this clinic. They would always provide a range of care options and were so knowledgeable about everything that was going on with our (what felt like) 100 year old cats and dogs that we knew we could trust leaving them over night or staying there in their care. Fast forward 12 years on and there was no question where I would take my little baby (kitten) for his first vaccinations and care. The service is still just as friendly, they get excited by your pet's name, let alone their personality, and have even sent us additional "your first kitten" information since we went there. Prices are reasonable and advice is non-bias and brief but they always have time for you to answer more questions or are happy to send out more information. If only Dr Harry or the Bondi Vet worked here...

However I guess if you're at the vet with your adorable pet you are most likely in need of some professional assistance! We have been frequenting Unley Vet for many years with an assortment of dogs and cats in their latter years and all the vets there have been absolutely invaluable and supportive in their care and advice. They truly love animals and treat yours as if they are the most gorgeous and beautiful in the world (which of course they are)! Our current cat was a foundling abandoned on their doorstep at 2 weeks old who they hand reared and named until we could take him home so Unley Veterinary Surgery holds a special place in our hearts however I can unbiasedly endorse their professional approach and care. I guess it is just like trying to find yourself the best GP. Over the years I have been to many Vet's and I have had lots of positive and negative experiences. I was finally given a recommendation for Blackwood Vets. This was possibly the best recommendation I could have ever asked for. Blackwood Vets have gone above and beyond for my dog. Sometimes emergencies happen. Let's face it, we can only communicate so much to our animals and we do try to avoid problems. But, they sometimes get themselves in silly situations, like my dog Igor. One day he decided that a large rubber toy was food. Unfortunately after eating it, it got stuck in his intestine and blocked it up. We rushed him to the Vet after noticing he was sick and would not eat. After some x-rays and careful observations the Vet said it was best to operate to remove the obstruction. The vet removed the toy and some of his lower intestine. They talked us through each step and not only looked after my lil' guy, but also looked after us after being quite distressed with the whole situation. Igor was nursed back to health and made friends with the whole veterinary team. They even called me late evening to check how he and we were doing post surgery. They took such amazing care of him and treated him as if he was their own pet. My lil' buddy Igor is in full health now and looks forward to see them all when he returns for his check ups. I am so dedicated to this Vet, that I travel quite far now to get to them. I do not mind a drive if it means that my animals receive the best health care. I recommend this Vet to any and everyone! It always felt like you were valued and special here, not like you're a meal ticket or just part of the production line. Blackwood Vets saved my dog from a spider bite when our local vet refused to even consider her symptoms and the nasty looking lump on her could be related. She was a nervous girl, so took many many visits before accepting a liver treat from Mary Ann, but eventually she did. Yesterday my lovely girl passed away in our arms at home. The night before, she was on a drip at Blackwood Vets, and Mary Ann went in overnight several times to check on her. She did everything she could, and made the process a lot easier than I expected. It breaks my heart, but you can't ask for any better care for your beloved pets. I am so thankful we found this place, the staff are all lovely, and make it a friendly atmosphere (including previously inviting us and our doggy to be part of the Blackwood Christmas Pageant!). They have "vets with heart" written on the backs of their uniform, and I've never seen a more true slogan. They truly love animals.

Today I saw Dr. Tom and he was terrific he said since we explained the differences between the country I can from Australia and the recommendations for and recommendations for assisting with our little dogs anxiety related to the move. He suggested that I go to a chemist for over-the-counter supplements and order a caller from the Internet rather than buying it from a store or from their vet clinic as it was far too expensive. Overall it was a very positive experience and I didn't feel rushed at all. Dr . Tom explained everything well and encourage me to ask questions. Appointments are easy to schedule and the vet is open seven days a week with a few days even open as late as 8 PM.

It gives your canine friend a pack to run and play with as well as a present and accountable human being who acts as the top dog for the whole time your pooch is placed here. This top dog human means no fights break out because there is always a masterful guiding voice keeping tabs on who is doing what to whom. It really is a great service if you don't want to leave the dog home every day but have a busy life and can not find the time to keep your precious pooch as pampered and busy as yourself. Let's say you own a big dog that needs a lot of exercise, but you also have a demanding job that sees you at work almost twenty four seven some times. What happens to the dog? Well it may get bored and start to behave badly as a result - but if you drop it off at Dogcity Daycare it will be busy socialising with other dogs. You can purchase a range of items for your dog when you drop them off or pick them up from their day of socialising and stimulating interplay - things like chews and pigs ears... and the friendly staff will let you know if your best friend has behaved well - which of course under the circumstances he or she probably has. And the experience I had was amazing! Dropping Harold off to the care of strangers is a little nerve-racking as Bulldogs have special needs, however the friendly team at Dogcity let me know that he was in safe hands and that I would receive updates during the day, reassured, I left feeling confidant Harold was going to have a great day! The energy and excitement in the centre was amazing, you could really tell that these people love what they do. Before I left for work, I had a look through the viewing window and Harold was already running a muck with his new friends. The thing that took this experience from good to brilliant, was the level of personalised communication I received. During the day, "Harold" sent me a text message with some photos of his new friends (who knew dogs had such skills!): Hi Mum, My new friends have let me borrow the work phone so that I could send you a message; I told them that I'm fine and would rather keep playing, but they've said that it's always important to let Mum's know. Apparently you guys worry about us or something. I'm having the best time. Heston is here and we've both been body slamming. They have a bunch of tennis balls here too, so I've been slobbering over all of those and carrying them around. There are two Huskies, Ace and TJ, who like playing with tennis balls also, so we've been having a great time together. I hope you're having a good day, but I doubt it's as fun as mine - ha! This vet clinic is super spacious and modern and not cluttered with seventies decor and smelly magazines, a far cry from the vet clinics I visited down south in my youth.
