We had taken our puppy elsewhere and found that despite their doing a checkup they couldnt find anything wrong. Thank God we decided to get a second opinion and take our puppy to Dr P and her team, who during her checkup found why our puppy seemed so unwell. From that moment they did everything in their power to assist our puppy on the road to recovery as well as help ease our concerns and answer the many questions we had. We HIGHLY RECOMMEND them and could not be happier!

Our dog recently had a bad experience with our local vet and so we sought out a vet with a more natural approach. From the moment I phoned the staff were very friendly, eager to help and give our pooch the best quality care possible. They arranged to have his records transferred to read through his notes before his first appointment and when we walked in we were welcomed and the environment was calming, caring and not rushed. In the first consult Dr P checked him over asking him if she can check here and there and our pooch was completely relaxed and even fell asleep in the waiting room afterwards while we were arranging the follow up! Overall a very positive experience and I feel confident that our pooch is now getting the best possible support.

So pleased that the Walkerville Vet was recommended. Their prices are very reasonable too.

In the surgeries, they always have someone monitoring the rabbits vitals as well as the vet doing the surgery and the ladies at the front desk talk to me about wonderful my bunnies are to play with (I don't care if they say this to everyone!). They call me as soon as surgery is over and are open nice and early and until 8 pm which is super convenient. I drive 40 mins to go to this vet rather than any local ones. Highly highly recommended for small animals. :)

Our dog also attended puppy pre school some years ago and the trainer was friendly. However, over the years we eventually had too much of poor veterinary services to go back. Firstly a vet harassing us that our dog was not purebred and was a "mutt". What kind of shit person skills do you have to have to say that about someone's family member? And not to mention the fact that purebred dogs are genetically more susceptible to problems given inbreeding. If people are handing you hundreds of dollars to perform a standard service, you think you could be pleasant and hold off on rude, pretentious comments. Secondly, when my dog was in to get her nails clipped, the vet or vet nurse came back out with her, angry that we had not warned she may try to bite. It's a dog. Dogs can get angry when you do things they don't like. I've known that since I was a child, and was shocked that someone supposedly trained to work with animals was too ignorant to realise a dog getting upset was a possibility when clipping their nails. Thirdly, several years ago my dog was bitten by a spider. We took her here with classic symptoms, showed the bite mark, and were told the two issues were not related. They would do bloodwork and fix the bite (or in their case, mystery mark) after. We are unsure if this blatantly incompetent judgement was due to us suggesting the connection, or because it meant they could squeeze more money out of us. As our dog was extremely ill, we looked for another vet. It's been a number of years since we found the Blackwood Vets. They aren't a chain like this place. The vets and vet nurses care so much about every animal that comes through their doors. I will never ever go to a chain vet again, and certainly not my local one. Vets who genuinely care about the animals they see are worth their weight in gold.

I guess it is just like trying to find yourself the best GP. Over the years I have been to many Vet's and I have had lots of positive and negative experiences. I was finally given a recommendation for Blackwood Vets. This was possibly the best recommendation I could have ever asked for. Blackwood Vets have gone above and beyond for my dog. Sometimes emergencies happen. Let's face it, we can only communicate so much to our animals and we do try to avoid problems. But, they sometimes get themselves in silly situations, like my dog Igor. One day he decided that a large rubber toy was food. Unfortunately after eating it, it got stuck in his intestine and blocked it up. We rushed him to the Vet after noticing he was sick and would not eat. After some x-rays and careful observations the Vet said it was best to operate to remove the obstruction. The vet removed the toy and some of his lower intestine. They talked us through each step and not only looked after my lil' guy, but also looked after us after being quite distressed with the whole situation. Igor was nursed back to health and made friends with the whole veterinary team. They even called me late evening to check how he and we were doing post surgery. They took such amazing care of him and treated him as if he was their own pet. My lil' buddy Igor is in full health now and looks forward to see them all when he returns for his check ups. I am so dedicated to this Vet, that I travel quite far now to get to them. I do not mind a drive if it means that my animals receive the best health care. I recommend this Vet to any and everyone! If I could give them 20 stars I would! ;D

It always felt like you were valued and special here, not like you're a meal ticket or just part of the production line. Blackwood Vets saved my dog from a spider bite when our local vet refused to even consider her symptoms and the nasty looking lump on her could be related. She was a nervous girl, so took many many visits before accepting a liver treat from Mary Ann, but eventually she did. Yesterday my lovely girl passed away in our arms at home. The night before, she was on a drip at Blackwood Vets, and Mary Ann went in overnight several times to check on her. She did everything she could, and made the process a lot easier than I expected. It breaks my heart, but you can't ask for any better care for your beloved pets. I am so thankful we found this place, the staff are all lovely, and make it a friendly atmosphere (including previously inviting us and our doggy to be part of the Blackwood Christmas Pageant!). They have "vets with heart" written on the backs of their uniform, and I've never seen a more true slogan. They truly love animals.

Appointments are easy to schedule and the vet is open seven days a week with a few days even open as late as 8 PM.

I guess this is their way of saving costs for us, but hey...I'm not vet trained! That's why I think their Total Wellness Plan is worth considering for $393pa for dogs 10-20kg. They generally post out your treatments in the mail shortly before the due dates. Something I that has given me peace of mind and saved me a lot of money. The staff here and very professional and attentive. I've been very happy with how they've handled my pups, their spoken knowledge, and their good use of calming ways of talking to my dogs. They also generally provide treats for the dogs in times of restlessness, which is extremely helpful! Some criticisms I have for Adelaide Animal Hospitals are a couple times I've come for appointments they've been understaffed where I've had to wait up to half an hour past my appointment time, but never mind. I also find some of their prices a tad bit expensive. I think I pay $30 for nail clipping per dog.

I wrote and directed (and toured) a children's show called "Puppy Love" which was produced by the Festival Of Sydney and the Sydney Theatre Company. I am one serious individual when it comes to the relationship between the owner and the animal on the domestic level. The responsibilities of the owner are as crucial as the responsibilities of the parent; if you consider the bond and the unshakable link that develops between the animal and the owner, you must respect and reciprocate the same bond. A dog will do anything to defend its owner, as will a cat under certain circumstances. You would not take your child to any old doctor or a different doctor every time it was ill would you? Once you had found a health provider that was really good with your charge, you'd return eh? So when it comes to identifying a good practise I feel pretty strongly about the way a Vet examples themselves. Stephen Terrace Veterinary Clinic get my vote. They are very clean and clear about the way they see things. That is important. No mystification, no mucking about. This is the most important thiing, no b.s.
