    Adelaide Pet Dog Training

    Burnside

I'll say it right up front, Adelaide Pet Dog Training is not the cheapest dog school around town…read more However, keep in mind the old saying 'you get what you pay for', and you sure get real value for money with this school. This is truly a POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT ONLY training school! And you will be required to fill in a rather lengthy, thorough, enrollment form, which deals in all matters concerning your dog. The small classes are held in the lovely grounds of the Burnside Primary School, where there's plenty of shade in hot weather and for Diva's like my gal, it's under cover when it rains. All classes have two instructors, a Head Trainer and an Assistant so that all times both you and your pooch are taken very good care off no matter what exercise you're doing. The school term is seven weeks. First week, sans your pooch, is an overall of what you'll both be doing in the forth coming classes. For the absolute beginners, lessons will be on the basic commands, sit, stay, recall etc. and of course, as you and your dog progress there are more advanced lessons. You will be handed the first of your handouts, then on the following weeks you'll receive further hand outs with an overview of the lessons for that week and homework - yep like all good schools you and your doggy get to do homework! Lessons usually start with a 'mini agility course', designed for puppies, small dogs and every size in between it is less of a 'start to a career in agility' more a way of making your dog use their brain. And it's a blast! Even when your dog (no names mentioned here of course) does decide to take off in the company of her BFF - much to the roars of amusement of all watching - and do a somewhat ad lib agility course! Honestly, it's just super there and if my gal Leaf had a say in it, the hour classes would last all day, every day. She loved going so much I literally had to carry her out, because once she realized we were leaving she balked and refused to budge, despite treats, coaxing etc. We can't wait to get back just waiting for them to have enough dogs to run the CGC class.

"Come with me and you'll be..." accompanied by two excited pups dancing from one paw to the other when not making it as difficult for me to stand on either of my own feet as possible. I clumsily fumbled at the third gate. "We'll begin with a spin..." the mutts sped off before I called them back to take their leashes off. "If you want to view paradise..." and are a dog "...simply look around and do it..." at the Holdfast Dog Centre. This is a doggy Disneyland filled with pooch pleasures such as a sandbit, luscious lawn, paddling pools, tunnels, a doggy playground, toys, water sources, shade and numerous things that need a good sniffing. We bipeds are taken care of too and whilst my Italian Greyhound said ciao to some birds who dared to be in his vicinity, I played "Words with Friends" on my phone sat at a table under the shade sails. The dog park is accessible to casual visitors 24 hours a day, when the premises aren't being used for training and day care. Doggy day care is available Tuesday to Friday, but each day is set for certain dogs. It's brilliant for people with one dog to allow for socialisation, and to keep them entertained during the day when you're at work. My brother, his girlfriend and their two fur-children learnt the whys and wherefores of behaviour here and their certificates of completion proudly adorn their notice board. Jetty and Scrum are beautifully behaved thanks to HDC's efforts. For small-medium dogs the centre hs more than enough room for a good run, but if you've bigger dogs itching for a run, or you would like to run with your dog, the la crosse oval next to the centre is a local favourite for doing just that. Within the whole Brighton Sports Complex, and in the Dog Centre, it is expected (and illegal not to) clean up after your dog, but plastic bags and appropriate disposal is abundant. If nothing but the best will do for your canine companion, visit the Holdfast Dog Centre. "Living there you'll be free, if you truly wish to be."

I wrote and directed (and toured) a children's show called "Puppy Love" which was produced by the Festival Of Sydney and the Sydney Theatre Company. I am one serious individual when it comes to the relationship between the owner and the animal on the domestic level. The responsibilities of the owner are as crucial as the responsibilities of the parent; if you consider the bond and the unshakable link that develops between the animal and the owner, you must respect and reciprocate the same bond. A dog will do anything to defend its owner, as will a cat under certain circumstances. You would not take your child to any old doctor or a different doctor every time it was ill would you? Once you had found a health provider that was really good with your charge, you'd return eh? So when it comes to identifying a good practise I feel pretty strongly about the way a Vet examples themselves. Stephen Terrace Veterinary Clinic get my vote. They are very clean and clear about the way they see things. That is important. No mystification, no mucking about. This is the most important thiing, no b.s.
