    After submitting my application along with $231 in fees, all requested documentation of income and rental history, being approved, paying my deposit of $1250, enrolling in their rental portal, purchasing rental insurance, flying in from CA during Covid-19, hiring a moving company, turning on utilities, and terminating my lease at my previous home, I was told ON THE DAY OF MY MOVE that they have decided not to rent to me. The reason I was given was that I would not be a full time occupant as I had rented the place for my son who is a college student. This was stated on my application. I then contracted with a realtor to help me find new housing amidst COVID-19 (not easy) who saw on the MLS that the property had been rented out from underneath me. To add insult to injury, I was then notified via email that I was being charged $75 in late fees for non-payment of rent for a home that I do not live in! It will be interesting to see if my deposit is returned to me. I plan to take legal action. ! I have made 2 trips to TX, lost 3 weeks of work, endless hours searching for properties, emotional distress compounded by the pandemic and an increase in rent at my previous home due to cancellation of my original lease. It will be interesting to see if my deposit is returned to me. I plan to take legal action.

    Alden Short is the worst, my family lived in one of their houses in Dallas up until the original owner decided to take back their house and my parents got evicted after 8 years (which is totally their prerogative except for the fact that they painted it as a "you can rent to own after a few years" type of situation and my parents had basically a day to move). Luckily God doesn't forget about his people and they found another house the very same day and managed to move everything from one house to the other overnight. My little siblings are 14, 10 & 2 mind you and they had to help, the older ones missed school the next day because they were exhausted after the move. Regardless of all of that, they also completely abandon the homes as time moves along. These aren't luxury mansions I am aware of that, but still worth upkeeping. The maintenance of the homes is non existent. The floor was coming undone, the ceiling is cracked, at one point the cabinets came off the kitchen, dishes and everything and nothing was done about it in a timely manner. My parents put eight years of memories into that home so it was hard to part ways but ultimately being evicted was a blessing because that house can't hold up another 10 years, especially with nothing being repaired. My parents did what they could but they were renting and obviously wouldn't do major renovations to the home until it was theirs to renovate otherwise they would have put in all this time and effort in the house just to have it taken away.     ***Update as of 12/16/2019 Why can't someone return many unanswered emails and voicemails regarding the COURT ORDERED JUDGEMENT to return my deposit plus court fees. I've tried every which way to get someone to respond, including emailing the OWNER, Mr. Scott Belsley himself, who's only response was, WHAT DO YOU WANT? The office blocks numbers so you can't get through to them. I just want my deposit back. Was a great Tenant, could have been a great review, but I wouldn't recommend anyone to this company, Especially after researching the background of the owner. Can someone please get in contact with me regarding this, so that it may be resolved once and for all. Thanks, Update: 01/15/2019 Unfortunately, after posting this everything went downhill, which is why most times I don't post. Least to say, I've been asked to leave in the middle of a month with a 30 day notice as they do not wish to renew my month to month lease after sending them a very angry, expressive email regarding their new sudden charges and fees and not answering their phones. They refuse to speak to me on the phone and must be an email so that everything is documented. Charging for EVERYTHING, from Convenience fees for paying your rent with a money order, to the very end of your lease when they charge a $25 fee to future landlords that want to verify your rental history. SMH. Just sad there is no longer any integrity, just money hungry companies who never have enough. I WILL NOT be recommending my worst enemies to this company any longer. They were upset on how they were talked to by email and told it's part of their job, yet they treat their tenants with fake customer service and will probably be charging for that too, before too long. I'm so disappointed after an almost great 2 years with them with no issues before, no late rent, to a 30 days of hell with extra charges and rent to be paid on the first and out by the 14th of February (a thursday) on top of new rent and deposits where ever else that may be so I can try to keep my kid in the same school. DO NOT RENT here. But from what I see below, they wished me well in my future! :) You as well Alden Short, you as well! December 2018 You win some you lose some. No one will always be happy. Most won't post a review until they have experienced something negative with whom they are writing the review for. I just want to say Thank you to Alden Short for providing my family and me with a home. Yes, the house is shifting because it's old. Yes, they could add dishwashers to their homes but hey, it's minor stuff. When Maintenance is needed, they are there and try to get everything fixed right then if they can. The people in the office are always extremely nice in person and on the phone. Sometimes it is hard to get a hold of someone in the office directly, so that can be a little frustrating, but just keep trying. If you don't pay your rent on time, duh there are consequences as anywhere you have to pay bills. If you have had rental problems in the past, they do offer 2nd chance. That's really hard to find for a house. They do NOT offer Transfers to another house. You must be out for 6 months and start all over again with application and deposits. If you get lucky and find a house you like though, stick with it. I have had no problems with Alden Short, and am very happy with my home, minus the little stuff. I always recommend Alden Short to people looking for a rental house.     These people take money for application fees and deny people who are qualified. Will no longer answer phone or email correspondence.

    Working with this property management company was so stressful. We were tenants for 1 year and left…read moreas soon as we could. The company does not return phone calls and was extremely unprofessional with us. The house was not well kept, had scuffs and stains everywhere, and the jacuzzi bathtub and downstairs shower did not work. When we first moved in, we put in a work order for the A/C to be fixed and they charged us $50. When we inquired as to why we were being charged, Kelly Davis responded with "If you want to begin this relationship by lawyering up, be sure to hand your counsel your lease and give them my number." WOW. He later called my fiance (not me) and apologized and said the remark was an "accident". Obtaining the return of our security deposit was extremely stressful too. We followed the lease and statutory requirements exactly and did not obtain an accounting and return of our security deposit within the required 30-day window. It was technically due April 30, 2022. We had to hound them constantly. Staff texted us around 5 pm the day before it was due back and alleged "website issues" and did not return the security deposit. This was directly contradicted in an email from Kelly Davis who said they sent out the deposit "last week". Only until my fiance told them he was coming to the office in person did we receive an itemized accounting and a text saying they hid our check near a porch somewhere. Completely unprofessional and inconsiderate to (1) leave a check worth ~$2500 for anyone to come get and (2) have us go and get it ourselves. It certainly should have been mailed to us. We paid for a professional cleaning upon moving out and they still deducted over $600 from our security deposit with no pictures (as was promised). No apology for or acknowledgment of the delay. Furthermore, the company's website states it is BBB accredited, but the BBB website explicitly says that it is not. Extremely unethical and I would not recommend this property management company to any prospective tenant.
