At no point did I feel like he was talking down to me or pressuring me into anything, and the whole experience was very positive. He walked us through the pre-approval process, produced all the necessary paperwork, interpretted the legalese of the loan and the 'good faith' payment, and set up everything we needed, so that come closing day the mortgage was taken care of. All we did was sign papers and get the keys. After closing, I realized that, because he gets paid by the lender, we had received the convenience of his services without giving him a cent. That seems like a pretty great deal, to me! It kind of seems too good to be true -- to get top notch professional services for nothing. However, my son and daughter-in-law went with the Roanoke office and their experience has been horrendous. Not only did their agent NOT let them know that he did not have employment verifications until 1 day before their initial closing date, but he had told them they were pre-approved for a VHDA loan and, 1 week AFTER their first anticipated closing date, they find out that they were not approved after all. Seems their agent made a mistake... one of many. Their closing date was moved to get the employment verifications and have everything processed only to find out this heart-breaking information. So now, their agent has told them it "shouldn't be a problem" getting an FHA loan before their closing date in 2 weeks. Let's hope he gets this right. They are currently - thanks to this mortgage agent's screw-ups - homeless because their apartment lease ran out October 1(They were initially scheduled to close on 9/26) and are now sleeping in our guest room with all of their things in our garage. They contacted management over a week ago - and then the corporate offices - and have had no response from either. We were anticipating refinancing our home with Atlantic Bay in the next couple of months. However, after the experience that my son and daughter-in-law have had, I believe we shall go with someone else.

Could never get a straight answer from them. Had to constantly email them and call them to get status of my loan commitment. Three days before scheduled settlement they still were not ready and never sent closing disclosure to my agent - I had to send it.. I should have used lender I had contacted first and not went with builders lender - Atlantic Bay.
