From the booking, to the day of the appointment, and all throughout the service, Kathy was thorough, took her time and you just know that you're in great hands. You can tell she is passionate about skin care and will get you to where you want your skin to be. She listened to all my worries and goals and gave me the confidence to get me started on my skincare journey. I understand that coming to see her is just part of the journey and I have to uphold my end of consistent care in order for her methods to work for me. I really enjoyed starting with the hydrodermabrasion service especially the fact that you can see what was extracted from your skin and if you're cleaning your skin well (or not). I felt so relaxed throughout and definitely fell asleep. Kathy was so sweet and has great intuition if I'm comfortable or not without me having to talk too much but she was also so easy to talk to if I did have anything I wanted to talk about. We did a quick 5 min question in the beginning to get a feel for what I was looking for. The room was relaxing and smelled amazing. Her energy made me instantly comfortable. The facial had my skin glowing for days after!! I wish I could afford one weekly. The facial was soo relaxing. The massage was AMAZING. I was snatched for days after. It was cool to feel where the sensitivity and resistance in my body was when she was giving me the massage. And afterwards when we were discussing the massage notes, what she described was exactly what I was feeling. So I knew immediately this was a major benefit. But Bianka will give you the same treatment that you would get there, with the same equipment and same products, for a third of the price. She works out of her home, which is extremely cute and clean, but once you step into her work room, it's hard to remember that you're at someone's house, and not at a professional spa. Not only has Bianka been a facialist for many years, she uses high quality products, gives great massages, and is literally THE nicest woman you'll ever meet. She charged me for an hour facial ($70), but it ended up being about 80 minutes, and she tacked on a few treatments that normally cost extra, but she performed them for free. She also gives great recommendations for products, but doesn't pressure you at all to purchase any. When I decided to buy one of her scrubs, I realized that I didn't have enough cash on me (she is cash only) and she told me to take it so I could start using it, and just pay her back whenever I got a chance. What spa gives that kind of service?! Lastly, on top of all this, she genuinely cares about your skin and the progress it's making. When I had some redness the day after my facial (not her fault, my skin is just hyper sensitive), she invited me to come back so she could take a look at it, free of charge. Also, I'm moving to New York next week and expressed concern over having to find a new facialist there, but she promptly offered to help me with my search by personally calling estheticians and interviewing them for me! She is telling me that they can't do anything on their end and that I need to reach out to Square. Square is telling me that they can't do anything on their end and that the business needs to initiate the refund. So, I reached out to Ronald again directly, and he did not respond. In addition, he got my Google review deleted and is trying to get this one deleted as well, but thankfully Yelp is a lot better about keeping honest reviews. I also forgot to note that the service was booked for two hours total, as a side by side massage. Elena tried to SCAM my sister and her partner by offering each a 1 hour service, one at a time (because of being understaffed), even though it is a two hour service. I paid $400 for the massages, so she's was trying to tell my sister that each service (which included a full massage and facial) of $200 was for one hour only, which is a lie. ORIGINAL POST: AVOID California Skin Care & Day Spa in Newark I prepaid for a service (it was a gift), received a confirmation reminder the day before, and made arrangements for my sister and her partner who are visiting from out of town. I even paid for an Uber to get them there. They arrived on time and the place was closed. No staff, no setup, nothing. They waited about 40 minutes, while I tried calling and messaging every available number. Eventually Ronald Aleteanu, one of the owners, responded on WhatsApp , but that did not change the situation and the service still was not provided. Between the Uber and waiting, this ended up wasting about 2 hours of their time (& money for the Uber), and they left with nothing. After all of that, Elena Aleteanu (who eventually came) claimed she had called and left a message (and at one point claimed that she talked to someone - a complete lie). I never received any call or voicemail, and I confirmed that the number I entered was correct. Their explanation just does not add up, especially since they had no problem sending a reminder the day before. What is most frustrating is that they still refused to issue a refund for a service they never provided. Instead, they only offered store credit, which is completely unreasonable. I would strongly recommend avoiding this place. I also posted this on NextDoor and numerous people replied noting that the same thing happened to them. So this is not an isolated incident.
