Alcatraz was a fun escape room experience! My family and I have only done one escape room prior and this exceeded our expectations. The staff was friendly and our escape room was challenging (in a fun way), with a level of decoration/room design that blew us away given we were in a trailer. They also offer VR escape room experiences, however we did not try them this visit. All and all we will definitely be coming back to try out the other rooms and if you're looking for an opportunity for family bonding or want a fun date night this experience is something I would recommend without hesitation! read more

Tried a virtual reality room... Manor of Escape, and we all had a blast! We were fitted by Cherry, our excellent guide, in our head and hand gear and then had 45 minutes to try to complete our task. It was so cool seeing what we could do with our hand controls and we were taken into different settings upon completing each goal. It was challenging but we made it out with several minutes to spare. Each scene seemed as though we were in a huge world but in reality we were in a tiny room. Excited to try the other games... One word of advice... some of us felt a tad nauseous afterwards. What makes this place unique: - Only escape room I have done that is on an actual bus. Super cool! - Live actors Areas of Improvement: - If you don't succeed, most escape rooms show you the rest of the game. They said they couldn't do that. I understand it motivates people to return and finish the game; however, we were only visiting so we will never know. I also wouldn't return to do an escape room I was a few minutes from completing. - We were lucky enough to be the only two for our escape room. Did the Harry Potter themed one. The game was fun, until the end. Which seems like a pretty important aspect of an escape room, the escape. Extraordinarily anticlimactic. Door popped open, no music, nothing celebratory...we're just standing there, 30-45 seconds go by, the guy walks in & says "you completed it. Here's a coupon for 25% to buy your next one." That's it, that's the end. For $42 including tax, completed in 30 minutes, with that kind of ending, hard pass. Bummed that was my first escape room & doubt I'll be going to any others unless it's $20 or less. Feel worse for the dad who paid for his young ones & it was their birthday. HOW TO IMPROVE - Have lights & sounds play when each artifact is found, build up to the escape. Lights surrounding the door, play music & video at the end. Went with friends to play Chloe, one of who used to work here. They intentionally hindered a couple of puzzles because they wouldn't let our friend help us when we were stuck. One of them they could manually open for us if the mechanism didn't work but they waited down our timer. Overall, was an okay experience, but repeated employee interference detracted from the overall experience and ruined the game. read more

My husband and I went here and did the zombie escape room - great experience! the girl hosting us (wish I had her name) made the whole thing fun from start to finish. Her zombie friend was great as well! My husband and I finally settled the debate of who would do better in a zombie apocalypse... me, duh. Clues were doable but challenging! We didn't finish within the hour, and asked for far more clues than the leaderboard "3" but we did finish and it was an experience we will remember! read more

I came with my co workers for a team building event and the staff and space was great. We did the "Chloe" escape room, which is apparently their scariest and most difficult room. There is a live actor in the space with you, and there are several jump scares throughout. It felt like a haunted house. There are several rooms that you move through and as you solve the puzzle of each room, you move into the next room. There are small spaces you crawl through as well. There are some strobe lights and periods of time where the lights cut out completely, so if you are sensitive to either of those things I wouldn't recommend. The only reason I'm giving 3 stars is because I personally did not enjoy the Chloe room. I do not enjoy being scared and ended up leaving the room early. If you are sensitive to jump scares I would not recommend this particular room. From what I observed, it sounds like there are several other room options that vary in difficulty and scariness. The staff was very professional and immediately removed me from the room once I indicated that I was done. I will likely not be participating in an escape room again, however that is just a personal preference. The rest of my group really enjoyed the overall experience, even though they weren't able to complete the room within the allotted amount of time. We were told that only a handful of groups have solved this particular room, as it is their most difficult one! read more

When I first walked in with my coworkers, we had to sign in a waiver and we waited for the rest to come by. We were greeted and asked to put our belongings in the locker and then the lady introduced us the locks we might encounter and gave us rules before starting the game. Zombie Panic was our escape room and it was terrifying, blood rushing and fun. I was half-scared since I enjoyed the thrills. Some of my co-workers didn't enjoy jump scares, which makes the game intense and fun for all of us. We were allowed to have a lot of hints, but we chose not to since it's more fun and relieving to discover cracking the code. We left in a nick of time, last 3 minutes where we ran outside screaming. We won! It was a little frustrating to some solve the puzzles, especially with math and conversion involved, but I had a lot of fun. I'm not allowed to say the details on what's going on, so I recommend everyone to give it a try! I also recommend having more than 10 people play. read more

It'd been a few years since I visited an Escape Room (the last one was in Tokyo), and the challenging and fun aspect hasn't changed for me. We had a blast! My "sister-in-law" found a Groupon for us, so it was cheap. Family set up the time and date, and we just showed up. We did visit on a Friday evening, so it was predictably busy. But because we already had a reservation, our wait time was minimal compared to some of the other people (mostly teens) that we saw waiting around. Our group of 4 was paired with a local couple, and the 6 of us got to business solving the puzzles in front of us. We made it out before our hour was up... VICTORY!!! We're already talking about going again with other family and friends. It was just a fun way to spend an evening together. read more

My group did the "Extinct" escape room. Upon arrival, we were given instruction on different types of locks but no back story into what our scenario was. I've done several other rooms at other places and while you're not given any instruction in the room itself, there is a little back story provided. Because our group was small (5 people) we were told to avoid clues that were painted or marked blue and just stick with the red ones. That made the game a bit easier, but I was very curious and still wanted to solve the blue clues. Maybe next time I'll do that. We were given hints when we asked and found the game to be challenging but not so hard that we gave up and quit trying. We managed to escape with just two minutes to spare! The facility was well maintained and appeared to be built for this specific purpose. (Sometimes places build out rooms as an after-thought). We are looking forward to returning and playing the Labyrinth game next month. read more

First time ever doing an escape room. We did the Chloe Room, from what I hear it is newer and has a low solve rate. I highly recommend this if you are a thrill seeker. We had a few in our group that jump easily and they were really not much use. They were too scared to look for clues on their own! The detail, design, creepy level was on par. Do it! We did not escape in time but for sure left me wanting more. I still think about one clue and how it links to the lock... Fun times. honorable mentions: Nice air flow, not stuffy at all. Smelled good, you often feel you are going to be stuck in a room with everyone's odor going wild. Not the case here. Space to think and walk around, very large home. read more

Update 10/29/2021 - Alcatraz management responded to my initial review and offered to set our party up with another escape room experience. This time around we were able to participate in the "Chloe" room. We had the room to ourselves, which was one of our larger complaints about the prior experience. The room/experience itself was quite impressive, and had an immersive atmosphere on par with some of the best haunted houses I've visited, with multiple rooms to navigate through. The puzzles were original, fit the theme of the room, and challenging but comprehensible. A live actor was part of this room who did a fantastic job and provided our party with some applause worthy jump scares. Both at the beginning and end of the experience, our host was very friendly, receptive to suggestions (which I didn't have many as it was a very well designed room), took a group photo for us, and even introduced us to the actor we had in the room. This was the experience I had hoped for and more when we had originally booked with Alcatraz. Thank you to the management and staff of Alcatraz for not only providing our group with a second experience, but for making it one of the best escape rooms I've participated in yet. Because of this, I can now change my original review and can recommend Alcatraz and specifically the "Chloe" room to anyone looking for a well thought out and original escape room experience. *** 9/17/2021 - We were booked with another group without warning or notice. Our party of 6 reserved the "Extinct" room, but upon arrival at the facility we were surprised and disappointed to learn that another party of 4 was going to be joining our room. There was no indication that we would be sharing a room when we booked online, and this information certainly would've changed our decision to purchase tickets. The room itself delivered lackluster and non-intuitive puzzles, which were overshadowed by attempting to navigate around and talk over the 2nd party in the room with us. The whole experience was anticlimactic with many of the puzzles containing clues which could have been much better with slight adjustments. At the conclusion of the room, when asked by the host about the experience. We attempted to make suggestions as to how the puzzles of the room could be improved, but our suggestions were shut down with a "this is the way it is" attitude. I felt the host was more concerned about defending the build of the room than having a quality guest experience. A bit of good customer service to even entertain listening to suggestions would've gone a long way to better the overall experience. Overall, between being booked unknowingly with a separate group and the poor customer service we received I cannot recommend Alcatraz escape rooms. read more

Alcatraz was the first escape room we did, and I've been holding back to write reviews until we've done more than 3 different ones. Now I think I can write a fairly objective review with some subjective rating. We have done 2 rooms from Alcatraz so far so this review is based one BOTH experience. First, the biggest thing I have with Alcatraz is the fact that they have actor who's not the GM with you. Yes it sounds like a super cool idea first, but it does add unmeasured randomness to your experience. For example, the first room we had, the actor was chatting with a party member chill and nice. Fine, no problem. Not super immersive but at least no harm. However, for the 2nd room the actor seemed to be extra difficult and intentionally distract etc. not saying good of bad yet, but the inconsistency of experience is there. Second, clues rely on actors way too much. Again, it's the actor.... we are ok with the randomness for the most part.... but one of the room we did literally requires more than 2 items from the actor (no spoiler)... we are just like== seriously......... if we want to do role play.... we'd go to evermore............ because of the importance of the actor and how much they emphasize on interaction, your success is kinda NOT in your hand. Overall it's cool but it doesn't feel like a real escape room as you'd feel smart solving puzzles afterwards but more often than not you feel dumb that the actor had the item the entire time...... However if you do want to try something different I guess this could be a new type of experience. read more

Absolutely Unprofessional! My son and his friends went yesterday and the whole time the staff or person behind the screen when giving clues called them stupid, dumb af, and slow. My son has a learning disability and is very socially awkward so to have him do these types of activities is HUGE. He came home crying trying to brush it off but I can tell it ruined his whole week.. I will be calling tomorrow to file a complaint. Who in their right minds does this and thinks it's funny!! I hope this was recorded because I will be asking for a copy and sharing it to the media so another poor parent with a child who has a disability won't be going through the same thing. Their escape rooms are amazing! They are super well put together and I had to ton of fun going though it. My group did the Chloe, the Haunted house themed one with a live actor. Alcatraz also says that only 6.6% of people escape it within the allotted hour. When my group didn't finish, the game master came in screaming at us to get out. Yes she could have been in character of the haunted house, but it caused half of our group to run into one of the new rooms because we didn't know what was going on and there was a box on the ground. Many of us who ran into this room tripped onto this box and one of our girls even sprained her finger and her nail fell out of the nail bed. They have great escape rooms but they need better training for their workers. read more

We did the Wizard Hysteria room for my daughter's 10th birthday party at the Alcatraz Escape Games Draper location. Before I made the reservation, I asked extensive questions to determine whether the room was an appropriate difficulty level for 10 year-olds and for a birthday party. I was assured that the room was perfect for a kids' party and for 10 year-olds. It turns out the game was way too difficult for that age group and the host "Cherry" got annoyed with the girls multiple times, was irritable, and did not have the patience for kids. The game was fun but for $365 (before the tip) I wish Alcatraz had been a bit more honest and open about whether they really want to accommodate a kids birthday party and whether the game was appropriate for that type of event. read more

I've been there now 3 times and each time was better than the last! the rooms are smart and exciting, and you will want to do another one! (we did 2 in one day cause it was so fun!) I recommend trying a more simpler room if it's your first time so you know how the puzzles and rules go, and how to think in terms of said puzzles and how it all interacts. love this place! read more

UPDATE: Management responded to us and allowed us to do another room. I appreciate their timeliness and willingness to hear us out. The room we did was Mutiny and we really enjoyed it. It had some unique puzzles that we never encountered in other escape rooms and great theming. This room did not have an employee inside with you. Overall, we're pleased with how everything was handled and would recommend. Original: I don't normally write negative reviews but I was very disappointed in this escape room location. To preface, we have done many escape rooms and have enjoyed all of them. This one however disappointed us. We did the Prison Bus escape room. Since we've done many in the past, we usually don't like asking for hints, so when we were informed at the start that there would be an employee with us to give hints, we decided against asking him for any. So finally 40-50 minutes in and we were completely stuck, we decided to ask for a hint only to find out that the employee HAD the items we had been looking for and we HAD to use him to complete the room. We were not told beforehand that we would NEED items from the employee, nor did the employee who was with us the whole game ever say anything! It was extremely irritating that we were looking for things that we would never find because the employee had it AND that we were never informed! We were then unable to finish the room because we had spent so much time looking for these items. There was also an item at the beginning that should have been simple to use but it was broken which made it more difficult than it should have been. If it hadn't been for that, the escape room would have been great. The puzzles were fun and everything else was fine. It's a shame because it would be such an easy fix. If anything, I think the employee shouldn't have any items; they should be hidden around the room. Also, I prefer not having someone in the room with me but that's just my personal preference. I would love to give this escape room another chance and have a better experience, I just hope they fix this for others. read more

I've done a few escape rooms before this was my first at Alcatraz. Very nicely decorated themed rooms. We did this as a work team activity. And chose the Horcrux Hysteria room (Harry Potter). We managed to escape the room. But for me sadly not knowing much about Harry Potter and the rest of the team was amazing with their knowledge did well. There were a few things that we got right but didn't do the motion correctly and if you are an avid Potter fan you would know this. Highly suggest going with fans of Harry Potter. They will love it and help you escape. Otherwise not knowing like me it will take longer. read more
