First I need to say we own several properties serviced by various HVAC companies so we have some experience with them. At property in Kitchener we had dealt with A1 for over 20 years. In the last few years our service seemed to go down. It ended with an incident last year when they told us that we needed to replace a furnace at a house we owned and rented out. We live in Toronto so we need to trust the company we are dealing with. I guess the A1 people thought we would never question them. I thought it strange that we needed to replace a furnace that was only around 10 years old. We had never had a furnace have a catastrophic problem that quickly. I thought they must be wrong - so they sent me photos of what looked like a really worn out furnace inside with a LOT of built up dust. I have owned properties all my life and am not afraid to get my hands dirty - so this looked strange to me. I called around to some people I knew in Toronto and they knew another company in Kitchener that they would call for us. Within an hour I had a call back from them and they dispatched someone to the home. I had already sent them the photos that I had received from A1 so they knew what to check for. When they arrived they sent me OTHER photos and said the photos I had did NOT COME FROM THIS furnace. At the same time I had sent a contractor friend to Kitchener to look into this for me as well. He verified the photos I had been sent were not from our furnace. That was it - end of relationship with A1. It just takes one incident like this to sour a relationship because you can no longer trust who you are dealing with. I had a new furnace installed, NOT by Aire One. I asked A1 to stop any maintenance contract and we would just part ways. I did not post a review since honestly that could be have been one person at A1 that did this. I took my business elsewhere and I thought this was done. Now while doing my end of year tax preparation I discover that A1 HAS BEEN BILLING ME STILL! This is almost a year later. Unacceptable. A clog in my condensation drain line led to the technician to try and tell me that the unit needed to be replaced. Then the scare tactic came out with the infraction form which lead to a high pressure sales situation to replace both my air conditioner and furnace which are not that old. Look around for an honest company and don't waste your time or money with these guys. Horrible experience all around. read more

Update - The original failed appointment was on Friday. The technician showed up at my door about an hour after I posted the original review. He offered a free appointment any time the following week to make up for the error and asked that I provide an updated review. I advised I would think about it and took his card. Saturday - I called and agreed to the terms. I advised an appointment in the evening of Tues, Wed or Thurs is fine. He said either he or the office would call on Monday to schedule the appointment. Monday - no call. Tuesday - the technician was at my house when I got home from work for a 'scheduled' appointment. Apparently the office had called the wrong number again on Monday. I have updated the review from one star to three. I debated this for a while before deciding on 3. The pros - The technician, James, was very knowledgeable, helpful and professional. He was a good representative of his company. The cons - It took two phone calls for them to get my address correct, and three calls & two visits for them to get my number correct. I can't speak to the actual work or costs, as all I had done was an AC check and my AC is on it's last legs so no work was actually done (on my decision). If using the company, I'd make extra sure they have your contact correct. -- Original review: Horrible experience. Booked an appointment and had to make arrangements to leave work early. No one showed up. When I called, I was told they wrote down both my number and address incorrectly so they couldn't find my house or call me. Decided against using AireOne when the fiasco on the initial call led me to have zero confidence in their operation. When I called I gave them the contact in Kitchener, and their representative kept giving me back a number from the 905 area. Twice I said I was not from that area code, I was in Kitchener. Then I gave them all my details, name, address, phone number. Again I was told that they have no address linked to my phone number. I was a new customer, so they would not have any information for me yet. She said she was looking in the wrong place in their system and apologized. We started again, I had to spell out every word. I asked to speak to their supervisor/manager. Again I was linked to the 905 area code number. I told the manager I would look elsewhere to buy a new air conditioner. 12 minutes later I was called by the same manager to "book my service appointment." I guess they didn't understand that I was lacking any confidence with their company. So I called back to say that I will not be doing business with them. They wanted my information again.....TOTAL INCOMPETENCE. Perhaps the service team that actually do work are good, but it is very challenging to just get through their reception and initial phone call centre. I will never know because I will not do business with them. I called Regional Air Heating & Cooling and got excellent information and ordered a new AC, booked the install date and spoke with the actual tech who provided options for the size and details of my house.....took about 5 minutes. Carrier/Payne Warranty Repair: I experienced a problem with my furnace and, after doing a lot of research, determined that the secondary heat exchanger had failed. I also found out that my make and model of furnace was covered under a 20-year extended warranty as detailed in Service Bulletin SMB 09-0024A and revised in 2014 under SMB 07-0056. In essence, Carrier covers replacement of failed secondary heaters for all parts and a flat rate for diagnosis and labour if this part failed or is about to fail. No local repair outfit was willing to do the work under warranty, claiming I had to pay up front and then get reimbursed from Carrier in spite of the policy which states the dealers have to file for payment and that in no manner should the customer be charged for this work. I contacted Carrier directly to have them send someone who would do the work. They had Air One contact me and the caller told me she was familiar with the Service Bulletin, that I was covered when I gave the model number and serial number and that a technician would come out to verify the nature of the failure. She told me the Carrier labour flat rate would not be sufficient so I had to pay the balance, about $800.00 to which I agreed. So far, so good. The technician shows up this afternoon and tells me that it is very bad, that I needed a new furnace. I asked him what the problem was - "a failed secondary heat exchanger". I showed him a copy of the Service Bulletin, read out the specific terms, and he wouldn't acknowledge any of it. He still insisted I buy a new furnace. When I refused, he called the office, jotted down some information. The service technician then told me I would have to pay for the whole repair up front and it would be $2,103 ($755.40 for the heat exchanger, $980 labour and a $125 service fee to get the part in, plus tax) plus parts for installation. He told me that was the way the industry worked and there wasn't anything I could do about it. He told me that only then would Air One apply for warranty reimbursement. He then tried to get me to accept a visit from one of their salesmen. I sent him away. It is totally unsatisfactory to get one person to tell me that I only had to pay $800 under warranty and the technician to then try to set me up to pay almost three times that and push hard to get me to buy a new furnace. I didn't call Air One for this service. I only contacted Carrier so they could send me a company that would do the warranty work. Air One is the company to which Carrier sent my request. I was tricked into paying for a $90 visit under false pretenses. All of this situation is highly unethical. At least the other companies told me up front that they wouldn't do the warranty work thus allowing me to decline a service visit. The only redeeming factors were that the technician showed up in the time frame promised and he did come up with the correct diagnosis. As a consequence, I will not have any further dealings with the Air One Kitchener location. read more

I have used this company to purchase equipment , mostly AC units. They are very good at making the sale BUT for service they are an absolute rip off. $ 150 per hours, plus high prices for seals and coolant. We have had so many problems with our main AC unit ( relatively new from aire one) and feel that service is just as important as buying a new one. They are hard to deal with getting appointments, and the service personal have little customer service skills . We will find another company to buy and service our home. The value to service is not worth the money. Very greedy company !!!!! I hate greed. read more

Incredibly rude office personnel. Told them specifically to call when they were on their way as I needed 30 minutes to get home.They called outside when they got to my house when I said I'd be about 30min as I was at work. They told me "it's not their problem" and they would be giving me a missed appointment fee when this is THEIR fault. krista in the office proceeded to get ruder by the minute when I was on the phone with her. I then spoke to Brady who wasn't any better, I agreed to pay the fee and they sent Cyrus to inspect my THREE year old furnace.. CYRUS proceeded to tell me I needed a new furnace due to a cracked condensation pan, flame rod, H.S.I and a blower capacitor. The bill was astronomical so I told him to leave. I then called around and found a reputable HVAC technician who came to my home and cleaned my flame rod for under $100. They did not fix my leaky air conditioner after their first visit so I called back the next day (as they had already charged me). Another technician came out and fixed the problem and did not charge me as it only took 15 minutes and should have been fixed at the initial visit. A few days later the office called with a mysterious charge of $99. They would not let up or understand that we shouldn't have to pay again as it should have been fixed the first time. We paid but will NEVER call them back. This whole process of changing AFTER the job is complete seems like a scam. Please call another company for your HVAC needs. Booked an appointment and no one showed up. No one could even let me know, they just left me waiting for 3 hours like my time is worthless.

I don't know who running the show at the Kitchener location, but the female clerks are nasty. First appointment booked in the magical time zone of 8 to 1 pm . WOW ..Who's paying for service? I told them I had to leave at 1 pm to go to work so they needed to be here long before 1pm They said they would inform the technician. 1259 pm as I am walking out the door guess who shows up. I told the tech to have the company call me for another time. Surprise surprise 2 weeks no call. So I finally call them back and get 8 to 1 pm shtick. Day before they call and ask "can we come between 3 and 6pm?' Fine... 630 comes along and still no tech. We call the office and they state the technician was busy and couldn't make it today would we like to book another appointment?.
