"Taking care of the little things" (Altijd op de kleintjes letten) was the motto for a long time. Nowadays this is not appropriate for Albert Heijn.
The shop is large and has got a good selection of fresh produce in vegetables and bakery products. I am always overjoyed when I see the amount of different meats and cheeses on offer and always nudged back to reality when I see the prices.
Albert Heijn has got a reputation of quality goods and being slightly more expensive. (think somewhere between Sainsbury & Waitrose - UK) - yes it is obvious that they can be beaten on price, but not on the product quality though.
So there I was at the checkout with just under €100 worth of shopping, lined up for the card payment line and crap.. they do not accept Credit nor Debit Cards - are you £@#* kidding me?! - Nope, as it stands the biggest grocer in the country doesn't accept Visa Debit, Visa Credit, MasterCard, American Express. No Sirree it is either Cash, or Maestro (Or local Bank's PIN-pas) - neither do they accept mobile pay, or wireless payments - so we scraped together our cash and had to pay at a different cashier.
Really Appie Heijn, get with the plastic!
