We have been bringing our pets to Albatross for more than 10 years. Hands down the best veterinarian services we have ever experienced.

Comfort + Care Animal Hospital - Comfort+care reply

    Comfort + Care Animal Hospital

I chose this vet for my 3 pets because my amazing vet retired some years ago, and Comfort & Care…read morehad the highest Google rating of vets nearby. I should have looked at the Yelp reviews as well first, as some of these experiences align more closely with mine. I booked an appointment for a rash on my cat's face and later added a full exam so I can sign her up for pet insurance. The vet did a thorough exam, was gentle and kind and informative but the rash was not offered a solution and I agreed that it may just be stress-induced from some changes at home. I was told that they could not obtain a urine sample at the time (for the insurance exam) and given a kit to take home. I called the next day to say that I was having difficulty isolating my cat without adding to her stress to get the sample myself and they said I could bring her in to try again at no additional charge. I called again to say that her rash was worsening and asked to see a vet again at the same time. So four days later we saw another vet. They could not obtain a urine sample again. The clinic's procedure is to first try a urine extraction by needle through the abdomen, which seems excessively invasive. I asked why they didn't just manually stimulate her to pee, like a vet once showed me for a cat with an injured tail. She seemed a little surprised and offered to try that way. At this point, my cat was shaking and drooling in fear. She tried to put a cone on her for the rash, which she was not having. Dogs were barking loudly in the soundproofed exam room next door, which was clearly not sound-buffered (animals, especially cats, are so sensitive to sounds. I don't understand why all vets don't soundproof. It would make everyone's job so much easier.) No cat enjoys the vet, but this visit seemed particularly stressful for her so I said we were just ready to go home and I'd figure out the urine sample somehow on my own. Again, this vet was good and prescribed something that I think will help for the rash. My real issue is with the business practices of the owner. When the receptionist said she was going to "only charge half price" for the vet visit, I said I would pay it, but I made a point of mentioning that I had only brought my cat in 4 days earlier (for a very expensive visit) for the exact same issue which was not offered a solution, and I didn't think it was right to charge me again, no matter the discount. But I said I'd pay because the vet deserves to be paid for her time (by the practice, IMO). The owner overheard and stepped in. She opened our chart and started reviewing it. She then essentially accused me of lying about declining treatment for the rash, saying it was right there in the transcript. I told her that was incorrect and I had no memory of declining any treatments offered, because none were. Then she threatened to "listen to the transcript" to find out who was telling the truth. I looked her in the face and asked, "Were you recording me in the exam room without my knowledge or consent?". She immediately began to backpedal, told me that she wasn't going to charge me for the exam and blamed her staff for not informing me of the recording. She gave me what started to sound like an apology that turned into an apology on behalf of her staff, not actually taking accountability for the way HER business runs. Then she thanked me and said she was going to reprimand her staff and put signs up in the exam rooms for clients to be aware. Frankly, I think recording is a good idea for transcription, but it's very poor business practice to record someone without their knowledge. She immediately lost my trust, which is paramount in any medical relationship. Obviously, we will not be back. I will take any recommendations for an excellent vet in the Langley area, but if you're reading this you are likely searching for one too. So I give two stars, one for each vet who was good. But zero stars for the way this business is run and for the owner. The name of the clinic is not reflective of our experience. My cat was very uncomfortable and I left the same way too.

terrible. can never get a hold of anybody. always goes to voicemail. not comforting OR caring. cash…read moregrab. be careful!!!! We requested an appointment to see a vet regarding the declining condition of our dog, who has been under care of a few of your vets. These vets, except for the first, have added costly blood tests, and prescriptions while diagnosing conditions over the phone. The first vet didn't even check our dog's temperature on the first day we brought him in. These tests, which we were not advised of the costs in advance, were well over $500. A shock when we came in to pay. Instead of asking for the dog to come back in to be re-evaluated the next 3 times we called, instead we were offered different medications, additional tests to try and billed for virtual consults 2 of the 3 times. In my opinion, this was a cash grab. our dog took a turn for the worst yesterday and we asked to get in right away to see a vet. The receptionist said the first available appointment for our dog was next week (Tuesday August 12) due to a shortage of vets. I said it was urgent and we would need to call elsewhere to get in to an emergency vet. The receptionist said, ok, sorry. We are just short staffed, so the next appointment is Tuesday. She offered us no other options but to take our beloved family pet to an actual "animal hospital." Unlike your establishment, which is not a hospital, because if it was, you wouldn't turn away pets!!! We called Langley Animal Hospital in Walnut Grove (where our dog has been seen on a few occasions when we simply can't get a hold of your office), they dropped everything and told us to come in 15 minutes. I called your office back and requested that all test results be faxed over to Langley Animal Hospital right away because we were taking our dog there. Again, no questions, just - ok sure we will do that. We ended up taking our dog to this hospital and the ER vet who looked over his results, did an exam and advised he wasn't doing very well at all. He pointed out very obvious issues that would have been seen if one of your vets actually looked at our dog. This makes me very upset to know that Juno might have been suffering needlessly. After the vet consultation, we made the very difficult decision to say goodbye to our family pet yesterday. stay away from this place - if you can even get an appointment!!!!
