Birria tacos and Mexican Coke. Just do it…read more The birria tacos come 4 to an order and they are thick with layers of queso cheese melted in between then deep fried. Onion, cilantro, limes and hot sauce come on the side as does a cup of consommé for dipping. Round that out with a glass bottle of Mexican Coke and you've just tasted heaven one cheesy layer at a time. We enjoyed our tacos and Coke's outside. They have several tables and chairs under a large metal awning. As some of the other reviews mentioned the prices are a little high but the quality and quantity of food that you get makes it worth every penny. Now go and get you some!

THE BAD: Unfortunately this is the most TASTELESS Mexican food I've ever had. Everything from the meat to the beans and rice to the chips and salsa were all VERY bland. What a great place for tamales!…read more The outside of the building looks like a strange place to have such a wonderful restaurant. But inside it's clean, smells delicious, and has very friendly staff. The tamales and bowls were delicious! This is a hidden gem that is worth the stop or drive.

17 years ago on our road trip and not much around, we happened upon La Nortena Tamale Factory in…read morethe blink of an eye and you've passed it town of Pecos Texas. Fast forward to Instagram, Yelp, social influencers and now this tamale factory and city are even more well known and loved. So with another road trip from Las Vegas to San Antonio we had to stop here and get some tamales. I have a few tips for you. They are closed on Mondays and if I'm not mistaken most days they are closed by 2 or 3 PM. Their website to pre-order is great. I ordered the night before to make sure my tamales were available. We were staying in Carlsbad, New Mexico and the drive time is an hour and 30 minutes. I totally forgot about the time change switching states. I called La Nortena as I started my drive and requested they changed my pick up time for an hour later than I had originally requested. They were so accommodating and helpful. I love that they open super early because we were on the road and there by 10am Texas time. We decided to walk in to pick up our order. They have an order line and a pick up line but there was only one girl manning the order line. It went pretty quick and they got our stuff really fast. They do not offer any bathrooms as this is just a pick up and go so if you're traveling you'll have to find somewhere else. The tamales were as delicious as I remembered them. The masa isn't super thin and isn't super thick. This isn't your regular masa. You can literally see the love that went into them making this masa special. I pre-ordered the mix dozen which comes with half green and half red. If you prefer more or less or another type of tamale they offer (others aren't always available) then just place the request in the comments box of your order. Both red and green are a bit spicy, moist and have awesome flavor. This was our breakfast and they were piping hot. I could barely hold them to hand them to my son in the backseat. I love that they were so hot. Delicious and my son said that they were the best tamales he had ever eaten. Pecos Texas is not that blink and you pass it kind of town anymore. It's rather cute with artistically painted Texas boots all throughout the city. I love social media because it really shows you all the things that you can find in the city from it having the world's first rodeo to history with Pecos Bill, this is definitely a stop to make and enjoy the city as well as the incredible tamales.

I don't know if it is the meat is spoiled or the ingredients or that bad or just someone does not know how to cook at all. I ordered this because I thought it was a dish people could not screw up. What a great experience!…read more It's a sports bar in west Texas and that's its strength. It caters to those of us here to work and to the locals who appreciate a great place to eat. Seated immediately even during their busiest hours, the service was also very friendly. The steak dinner was well cooked. The sides were a bit lacking, but the steak was good enough to offset that. Overall this is a go to in Pecos

The ambiance was mostly casual with lots of TVs everywhere like a sports bar, but it seemed like it wanted to be fancy with the way the staff was dressed and how they presented their menus. The cost per dish was more upscale seafood. They had some props for "gram worthy" pictures. As we sat down, our waiter brought over chips and salsa for the table and said to the kids "one basket only is free". They looked at us confused because they weren't used to that being the case in Mexican restaurants we go to in Phoenix. We said it was a nice holdover until the food got there. The same thing happened with the drinks though; the kids ordered a soda and it came in cans and the waiter said "no refills". Again, not that big of a deal but they were only saying it to our kids. The people who got water though asked if the water could get refilled and the waitress said it could but didn't seem like she wanted to because only a couple refills were filled during the meal. Some of the food had quick a kick to it, so more water or something to drink would've helped. The food was kind of hit or miss; some people really liked their dishes and some were just okay with what they ordered. If we had come with just adults, maybe we would've had a different experience and ordered different things. Next time we pass through we'll try and stop in again.

My husband ordered a hamburger, and I ordered a steak quesadilla. I wanted tamales but was told they didn't have any. They really don't have a menu, just some faded signs with no prices on the outside of the trailer, so we asked what all they had. We ordered our food not knowing the cost for any item. We were told the price of $24.00 for the hamburger, steak quesadilla, and two Mexican Cokes!! We were shocked at the expensive price! We waited about 10 minutes for the food. When the order was ready, we realized the food came with fries and a jalapeño. It STILL wasn't worth $24.00. The hamburger was very light-weight and was like one you would get at a concession stand at a ball game, not a restaurant. The Mexican Cokes were not cold and needed a bottle opener to open them, so I had to walk back to the food trailer and ask them to open them for us. The quesadilla was good but didn't come with salsa, and we weren't offered any. The food wasn't bad, just not worth $24.00!!
