We had a crew of 4 and were taken out by Captain John and deckhand Dylan for a half day salmon…read moretrip. Captain John was there to greet us at the dock and was very friendly and welcoming. We went out on the Hi Time boat a 30' which had plenty of room for fishing and warmth inside. We made it out to the fishing area within 15 minutes and had 4 rods in the water right away. The fishing was a little slow as we saw other boats not bringing in fish either and whales had entered the fishing area. While it was amazing to see whales, they do not help fishing. About halfway through the day my son hooked into a nice fish that was a great fight! He ended up landing a 30" King salmon, the biggest fish of his life! I caught a smaller chum salmon but was still fun to catch! My mother and father in law didn't get a chance to fish as we had no other bites. Dylan was working hard and being helpful to make the trip enjoyable and fun for everyone. He's a good kid and his family should be proud. He even let my son try fresh salmon eggs and salmon heart which he loved! Overall it was a great fishing trip and an experience that my son will never forget! One of the things we look forward to the most is a fishing/sightseeing trip with Rum Runner Charters. Captain Chris and crew have always come through for us. My only complaint is that they always seem to position my wife on the side of the boat that has the largest halibut. Oh well. Friendly, outgoing, w/ lots of knowledge of the area. She made the ride to & from the Yacht seem like it was shorter than it was. Jen (our captain) & Katie (naturalist) were wonderful. These ladies know how to make a trip enjoyable. Was almost like family outing. Although the whale spotting started off slow, it really picked up in the 2nd half. I had the best time, even though on this adventure I was the only Man. 2 Ladies, 1 Lady and her Daughter, and then my Wife and I. Would do this tour again in a heartbeat, and if I could request these two bonus points for sure. The Captain Mike was friendly and the young deck hand Talon was very helpful and did his job well. We paid extra to go to the Icey Straights where the big fish were supposed to be and only raised 1 fish of decent size. My family likes to put fish in the freezer for the year. I understand fishing is fishing but I expressed my intent to take fish home and not just here to vacay fish and seemed to be put on a chicken ranch. So we tossed probably 4 or 5 small halibut back due to small size and the Captain says thats it we are done halibut fishing and going Salmon fishing. I didn't like being rushed off the Halibut fishing but ok let's go get some Salmon. This was a mess the rods and trolling gear wasn't set up right. Our trolling speeds were not at the right pace and we were using gear that was supposed to be rigged with bait but wasn't. We only landed one Salmon but it was to small. Now frankly the Captain was a nice guy but I got the impression that he didn't really give two shits about putting us on quality fish and was only interested in our money. So we get back to the dock and the deck hand is told to only gut and dehead our fish because we were going to take it to the processor for packing and freezing stating they like it better this way. Ok sure but whatever lets get it there. We get to the processor snd they are closed! They closed at 5 and we weren't told that they closed at 5 we were under the assumption due to info on the processors website that they closed at 7! I feel like that is something the Captain of the boat could have mentioned or at least should have known. So if you plan to go out with these guys do not spend the extra money going to the Icey Straights and don't expect the Captain to care about putting you on quality fish. I would suggest finding another boat from a local guy who wants to put you on quality fishing.

We were supposed to go out with Captain Toni but when we arrived to fish, however late in the morning we never saw her or her boat in the dock. We never got a call from her and so we called her on arrival only to find she (Toni) the Captain, had sent her boat out fishing with Nani her helper and other Captain, Ben Olson. Long story short, we were left wondering and waiting for Ben, but he did a great job in salvaging what was about to be a terrible day. For the fishing i give Ben props and Nani did a great job, but the actual booking, timing and arrangement made by Toni was not what we were told. One thing on the phone, another when we got there. She assured me she would take us out on our charter upon booking, then when we arrived (she) was not taking us out. She told me we forgot to fill out a reservation form after taking a $700.00 deposit from us in May 2012 for a charter agreement in July 2012. Call her before you fish with her, even if you gave her a deposit..and don't forget your reservation form as well or you could end up being told you forgot it even if you gave her a 50% deposit....so much for guarantees of charters with deposits!!

We came in on the Disney Wonder. Booking was a breeze. They arranged for a taxi to meet us when we got off the ship and drove us to the boat. Nick and his dad run this labor of love and was happy to answer all of our questions and tell us his story. What a good dude. For a few hours I felt like a local. The boat is clean and beautiful and my 7 and 8 year old had a blast. Don't book through the cruise ships. Book straight through this company. They are an Alaskan gem. You won't regret it.

During a 7 day Alaska cruise, my group and I booked three excursions with Alaska Tour Center and…read moreeach of them were just amazing. In Juneau, we did the Whale Watching tour on Lynn Canal and it didn't take long to spot the first whale diving right in front of us. Unfortunatelly to fast for us to get our cameras out. But during the time out there, we spotted several whales and enjoyed the beautiful scenery as well as the funny and informative comments our captain and our tourgide gave us. We learned quite a bit about the region, whales and history. The snacks and water they provided, was a nice catch. Right off the boat we were transported to the airport for a helicopter trip over the Juneau Icefield and to Herbert Glacier. Our pilote took us safely from and to the airport and gave us a brief intro about the icefield, its glaciers and the surrounding areas. Landing on the glacier and taking a stroll was simply amazing, also because the weather was perfectly sunny. The trip was certainly worth every penny. In Skagway we did a bustour to the Yukon territory. Our busdriver was not just very knowledgable about the tour but also had tons of funny stories about life in Alaska to tell. Time flew by while we enjoyed the beauty of Alaska and Canada on this tour doing several stops for picture taking, walks and lunch at a husky station. Alltogether, the tours were expertly organized and we were in very good hands with the gides we got for our tours. They certainly made a major contribution to my fantastic time in Alaska.
