Full rant below: If you have options for your ER visit look elsewhere. My husband and my experience with Dr. Sami T Ali and the ER department was less than spectacular. We are very frustrated as it was made clear that we were going to fly home to California shortly after our midnight ER visit for his first kidney stone. The prescription that was given to us wasn't even dated, and none of the pharmacies here will take it without a check mark over the qty as well. Well, we're all human and make mistakes at 12 in the morning (I certainly didn't catch it), so I called the ER in hopes that they could just send the prescription digitally to the pharmacy, but apparently they can't. So because of this team's incompetency we're up a creek unless we go to another urgent or emergency care to see another doctor in the interim since nobody is open on the weekends. Who likes having money anyway right? There's some things that aren't their fault. I get it, you deal with drug seeking patients constantly in an ER, and it's not exactly this hospital's fault that the controlled substance processes are broken because of this, but at the end of the day you are a medical facility. In a medical facility details ALWAYS MATTER. If you were really that worried then why not test the blood that you took?? You can clearly see if this is just an addict trying to get their fix, or if this is someone who is clean and just trying to get through a painful process. So, as stated in my top summary, if you're okay with a doctor and ER team that's going to err on the side that a patient who is passing a kidney stone (OW!) of guilty until proven innocent for trying to treat their pain, and isn't going to pay attention to details, and won't make good on the issues that their own department creates, then this is certainly the place for you.

Maybe because he felt I shouldn't be in ER for just a stomach flue. But I really felt like I was dying. Not to be too overly dramatic. .

Come to find out they knew this for a year before they took us on and never at any point told us. I was left due in one week trying to find a doctor who would even take me let alone find a natural birth. At that last appointment, without my consent or knowledge, they stripped my membranes. This was absolutely horrifying. I WOULDN'T TRUST THEM WITH MY FISH LET ALONE HELP ME BIRTH ANY OF MY BABIES.

The midwives along with the rest of the staff was really warm and welcoming. The birthing center itself, was clean, it was bright, and the rooms were very comfortable and homy. I knew nothing about out of hospital births and though I was excited and very interested, I was nervous about the pain and care in case of an emergency. The midwives and the staff did an awesome job at educating me on out of hospital births versus hospital births and, needless to say, I transferred my care to One Family. My birthing experience went better than I could have imagined. I was able to move about as I pleased, I ate and drank whatever I wanted, the setting was calm and comfortable, people I didn't know weren't coming in and out of my room, and though they were with me the whole time, my midwives didn't bother me unless I needed them. That being said, if you are looking for a natural and empowering birth experience and would like to make your own birth choices, within reason, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND going to One Family Birth Center and checking it out yourself! It is a choice that I am glad I made.

When we arrived there were two other patients in the reception area waiting to be called back. After about 20 minutes of paperwork she was taken back to do her vitals then shown to an exam room to wait for the doctor. When I say wait I do mean wait. We checked in at 10:40 am the doctor walked in the room the first time at 12:42 pm. She was very efficient and had a good repoire with my daughter. While the staff is friendly the overall time spent at the clinic made my already grumpy and sick teenager grumpier which in turn got me grumpy. Not sure if they can beef up and have two doctors on staff over the weekend but wow...that was a long time to be seen.

Surgery Center of Alaska employees Valencia and Nancy in the billing department only care about…read moremoney and do not care about people. I wanted to share my experience, hoping that this will help other people not get bullied into paying bills upfront. If you have insurance, which I do, you are not obligated to pay anything except for your deductible. I had unexpected surgery, and it got scheduled at the Surgery Center of Anchorage. I received a call from Nancy in the billing department regarding going over my insurance and payment. She told me the overall total was around $11,000. She then mentioned that I needed to pay the remainder of my deductible, $1,102.58. Then, I needed an additional $2,100.42 for what my insurance does not cover. Let me begin with that, and she had her math right. I told her that my responsibility is just my deductible, and then you can invoice me. I do not pay anything without knowing what I paid for and have a track record. I know my insurance. It is a $1500 deductible with a $3,500 max out of pocket and 80/20. However, this is not a typical guideline for a medical practice to pay upfront. On top of that, she refused to give me an invoice. Why would I hand anyone money blindly with no invoice before the surgery? I called my insurance, and they told me exactly what I thought they would and said I am only responsible for my deductible at this time if they ask for a collection. They are not following the guidelines that they are supposed to. I then called my PCP and explained the issue. She said to try and call back and speak to a manager. If they would not accept just my deductible, we can cancel the surgery with them and schedule it at Alaska Regional (Keep in mind that my surgery was one hour away now). I called back and asked to speak to a manager, waited on hold for almost 10 minutes, and then Valencia Elsberry picked up. I introduced myself and explained the situation and my conversation with Nancy. I also explained that I spoke to my insurance about how I am only responsible for my deductible at this time, and it is required to have an invoice. Valencia's said, "Well, that sounds nice, but that is not how it works here." I was so shocked by her choice of words and her delivery. Highly unprofessional and should not be in a manager role. I understand that they are a private practice, but that does not change that you still need to follow guidelines, and where is the care? Also, I wanted to point out this was my first surgery, and it came a little unexpectedly. They did nothing but stress me out the entire time. How are they in business if this is how they treat people? Looking at the other reviews, I am not the only one with the same experience. So.... that alone shows you this is an ongoing problem. Nancy and Valencia need to be held accountable for treating people and manipulating and bullying people into getting them to pay everything up front, even with insurance. With that said, I called back my PCP, and they canceled it at the Surgery Center of Alaska and scheduled me at Alaska Regional the same day. Alaska regional asked for my insurance information, and that was it! It was simple, stress-free, welcoming, and they took great care of me. I am so glad I stood up and switched. The insurance will take care of everything, and then I will receive an invoice for then I will be responsible for paying. That is the guideline, period. Surgery Center of Alaska only cares about money and does not care about people. However, they ended up losing $11,000. Interesting how that worked out. I have reported this company and hope they get a wide awakening, start caring for people and get a new entire team in the billing department. To anyone out there reading this, thinking about going here, I want you to remember you have the choice on where you go. Also, ALWAYS call your insurance and follow what the guidelines are. Although your insurance company will steer you in the right direction, they will tell you what other places they work. Remember, you have options, and you do not have to go here! If you are going to have surgery, you deserve to be cared for, taken care of, and not have this stress. YOU DESERVE BETTER! Good luck to you all, Alyssa
