One of those chronic things that needs to monitored yearly and maintenance prescriptions, but I'm healthier now than before, and he takes the time to explain and tell you what needs to improved on. I're reversed my condition once, it's diet related, so working on it again. We've seemed to have grown as friends over these years too. He's said let's work out together but, he's up too early for me! LOL! I do my workouts at the gym, home, bike and walk. He's all about diet and exercise and as he'll tell you 'Fin Fish' eat more fin fish and eggs lots of eggs and fish. After I went my wife followed and when our daughter broke her ankle at school she became part of the Northwest Medical Family, then our oldest daughter joined in too as they had a female PRN which you need those female annual checkups for. I've been with them years. Today was Lab Work before our appointment next week. LabCorp is on site here. One and done so convenient. It so happens, I was referred to Dr Demers through another excellent Alaskan doctor, and as luck should have it, I took to her immediately. For those who may not know, she is board certified in both Internal and Occupational Medicine. Dr Demers is extremely knowledgeable, patient, and non-pretentious. She will listen to your concerns and give the latest evidence-based medical information as her explanations for whatever treatment plan she decides on. As a healthcare person myself that nearly became a doctor as well (I dropped out at the end of the third year but I get how doctors think and the intensity of the training having been through some of it), I appreciate her providing the latest findings in the medical literature in her explanations. Her breadth of knowledge is probably better than most. She put me on a new med that has really helped with one of my chronic health issues. I wish I had been taking this med before! I'll be sticking with her as my regular doc. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a regular doctor in the Anchorage area. Of note, her office is contained within the main building of Providence Hospital.

I can only muster up a couple of stars this time…read more Dr. Royal is part of the Anchor Medical group and the only reason we agreed to see her was at the urging of our original doctor, Dr. Alisha Skinner. To start with, who ever spoke to us on the phone at Anchor Medical led us to believe Dr. Skinner was an Endocrinologist and dealt with diabetes. While she is a very nice lady, she practices internal medicine only. Since we were in the middle of the appointment when we learned this, we proceeded. To her credit, Dr. Skinner admitted to limited experience with diabetes and suggested Dr. Royal. On my initial consultation, Dr. Royal brought in a student or new doctor or who knows. I do know that it wasn't cool. She asked me if it was alright if this woman observed, but with the woman standing right in front of me, what am I supposed to say? No? Wow, Awkward! Dr. Royal, based on test results, was operating on a theory that heavy control on diet could replace all the insulin I've been on over the years. A nice theory but not very feasible. At one point in life that did work but over the years, the numbers started to rise. The top Endo in metro Detroit started the insulin protocol. It's possible he's right. There were two big problems with the visit. First was how incredibly fast she spoke and ran through this plan of hers. There was a lot of education involved and no way I was going to absorb or retain the information she was attempting to convey. The second bit of abrasiveness was her incredible arrogance. Insisting the Endos were all wrong and how she's smarter. Too pompous for me. The day an internal medicine, general practitioner claims to know more that an Endocrinologist with a PHD is the day I walk out and just keep walking. 11/23
