We visited the Native Heritage Center because it was included in an all day Anchorage tour, and I was so glad we did! When we arrived, just the view out the large picture window in the atrium to the lake outside was enough to get us excited. The Native Heritage Dancers gave a wonderful, traditional performance for us. We browsed the exhibits inside for a bit, but the real treasures were outside. First of all, just the walk around the cute little lake outside is beautiful. Then you can stop in at a plethora of different indigenous houses/dwellings to see how the tribes of Alaska actually lived throughout history. There are knowledgeable guides in each of these houses and they will answer any and all questions you may have about the tools/ construction/objects found there. It was a very interesting and scenic stop that I highly recommend if you are ever in Anchorage!

My husband, daughter, and I enjoyed a fun and educational visit to the center! We weren't sure what to expect, but left feeling inspired and refreshed. We loved exploring the outdoor exhibits, admiring the art and achievements of Alaskan Natives, watching the dance performance, and sipping (one of the best we've ever had) lattes outside. 10/10 would recommend to anyone interested in learning about culture in an interactive way. Throughout our visit, staff were very friendly and easy to talk to. We were impressed with the ongoing presentations, and I wished I had written down some of the facts I had learned. What perhaps we will remember most is how the dancers invited my toddler up to dance with them. She was so intrigued by their performance, and she was also dancing along. How lucky we were to have an already great experience end on with a sweet touch! Oh, if you choose to see the crafts and work of some artists in doors, keep in mind there is a lot of fur and anima products on close display which will probably surprise some people who aren't familiar with indigenous cultures (as was the case for my family). Fun fact: the gift shop has free coloring books and colored pencils for kids

The earring I bought. Much lighter than i expected, comfortable the wear all day.

One of the highlights of our visit to Anchorage! The center has wonderful presentations on topics of general interest, presented by young people who are interning at the center. We especially enjoyed the demonstrations of games and of dancing. The lake with different styles of homes is a lovely stroll, filled with opportunities to actually experience in a brief way what it would be like to live a traditional lifestyle in different areas of Alaska. The guides and docents were polite, helpful, and knowledgable. The little cafe offers some nice menu options. There were artists on site showing their skill and selling their wares. We were super glad to have visited the Heritage Center, and recommend it highly for all.

I'm so glad that we visited here at the end of August. The weather was beautiful, so we enjoyed learning more about native Alaskan culture via the various outdoor buildings in the back. We also enjoyed listening to a person telling about his background in the amphitheater, and talking to the native craftspeople and viewing and purchasing their amazing creations.

This is a must see and do when anywhere near Anchorage. It was beautiful to better see, hear, and experience how Alaska Natives lived throughout history. The Heritage Center was absolutely stunning. I cannot recommend it enough.

We got here about 11:45am .... the next tour started at 12:15pm. So, we had about 30 minutes to wait and watch the activity / performance that was on the main stage. Several of young (I think they were mostly teens and a couple of adults) Native American Indians demonstrated several challenges that they would be performing in an upcoming competition. These challenges required a lot of athletic ability - a combo of balance, strength and flexibility. It was like pilates, Cirque du Soleil, martial arts and yoga rolled into 1. The walking tour around the property started about 12:15pm. Each section showcased the different tribes of Alaska and how they lived in the 'early days'. While this was interesting, I felt it was much too long and not well narrated by the guide. Now... in the guide's defense.... I think she was thrown into the position unexpectedly at the last moment. The group that gathered for the tour was much too big, and the main guide decided that the group should be split into 2. So, the group I was in went with the younger 18 year old who had just graduated high school. So, I'm thinking she was still in training because she didn't have much to say about each tribe which made the tour really drag along making it seem like 2 hours. It was only 1 hour. The property itself is beautifully laid out. There are a couple of picnic areas, so we decided to enjoy our lunch next to the lake. Thankfully, there were no mosquitoes and while it looked like it might rain, it did not. Outside, there are a few folks selling handcrafted art and jewelry. Really pretty!

I enjoyed my visit here, and can recommend it, and offer a little advice. For me and my partner (a Native American, if that matters) the best part of our visit was not the relatively small but thoughtful museum collection, but the education we received about the diverse life ways and cultural traditions of the various tribes and communities. They are very different, often shaped by climate and available resources. The programming is provided by younger Native Alaskan volunteers who are clearly very excited about sharing their culture with visitors. We attended an introductory lecture, a demonstration of native games, a museum tour, as well as a tour of the various houses used by the different tribes. Another thing that impressed me was the opportunity the center provides not only for these kids to learn about their own culture, but to share it with the world. We also enjoyed talking with native artisans and browsing their creations, from beadwork to weaving to scrimshaw. My partner, a native speaker from the Southwest was even able to identify some linguistic similarities from his own people, 2300 miles to the South! In short, if you simply go and walk around for a few minutes, you might be disappointed by your visit. Instead, take advantage of the excellent human resource these volunteers and artisans provide. You will learn a lot and have some fun. The Center is located on the edge of town, just a short and pleasant drive northeast from central Anchorage- close enough to Uber. Sorry my pictures are so bland - I didn't feel comfortable taking photographs of the staff, who are the main attraction. Highly recommended for visitors to the area, including family groups. Happy travels! Seatbelts!

Review #11 for 2026…read more Our group went on this tour while on our Alaskan Adventure. It is a one hour tour that starts at the Anchorage Visitor Center. We arrived early to explore a bit of downtown beforehand. Booking was super easy. I called to book and they were super easy about the booking and payment, telling me I could either pay at check-in or use the emailed link and pay ahead of time. It is normally $25 a person for the one hour tour. We had used the Alaska TourSaver book and there was a coupon inside for BOGO free tours! There is a max of 2 coupons allowed per tour according to the coupon, so book ASAP if you are using the coupon. We had 2 coupon books for our group of 4 adults and were able to use both! Our 14 month old baby at the time was also free. So the tour was super cheap! There is free parking around downtown, but as with anywhere you go, make sure you read the signs to make sure. There is NO bathroom at the visitor center or on the bus, so allow yourself enough time to go to the bathroom first!! We had to walk to a nearby hotel to use the bathroom before going on the tour. This tour was short, so there were no hop-on, hop-off photo stops. However, the tour was informative and we all enjoyed learning about the city. My baby boy seemed to also really enjoy the tour. The bus was not full, so we were able to spread out. We also get a reindeer hotdog from the stand right by the bus and it was a great idea because it kept our toddler busy munching while enjoying his tour! They do allow food and drinks. Just be mindful and take your trash with you and keep the bus clean. They also have a place to store strollers while on the tour if you had on like we did. Would I come back? I think this is more of one of those things you do when you are in town for the first time. It is not really a tour you go on each time you are in town. However, I would not mind checking out the other longer tours. If you do travel to Anchorage, check out this tour!! It's affordable, even without the coupon and is a good intro into the town and history.

I booked the day before, the morning of the owner texted me to confirm that I would be picked up at my Airbnb, Billy texted me notifying me when he was on his way. He was kind, responsive, full of information, considerate, and willing to tailor the speed and details to the needs of the group. He truly made this trip enjoyable. Van ride to the glacier is about 100 miles, we stopped at a gas station about half way. We stopped twice for two photo opportunities, and then made our way to the glacier gift shop to sign waivers. Then drove down to the launch point of the trek. There are ample bathrooms down there. Billy did not accompany us on the glacier but that was okay, our guide at the glacier was super sweet and knowledgeable. I felt more than safe! You walk across a floating bridge to get your microspikes and then we spent about 2-2.5 hours trekking the glacier. You do spend most of the hike on the rocky surface, but we did a pretty steep climb on the blue ice to get to the top of our area, we drank glacier water (amazing) and then saw the base of the glacier which was stunning. Post trek we returned to the tent and met up with Billy, he had snacks waiting for us and then drove us up to the lodge for lunch. After lunch we made the drive back, and again Billy was willing to accommodate different drop off points.

Hotel pickup was super helpful since we didn't rent a vehicle. Lori made a bathroom/coffee stop 45 minutes into the drive. We stopped at a local coffee shop which was so thoughtful instead of stopping at your typical gas station. Afterwards we arrived at our destination for the dog sled tour. We went during the winter and it gets very cold when you are moving on the sled! We are from Arizona so we didn't have snow boots or other items on hand. Luckily snow shoes, heavy gloves, beanies, etc were provided for us to change into so that we stayed nice and warm on the sled. We were paired up and got the chance to sit down and ride in the front of the sled which was perfect for taking videos and pictures. And the other person had the chance to stand up at the back of the sled. We warmed up with a delicious lunch at a nearby lodge and made our way back to Anchorage. Overall, we had such a great day thanks to Lori and the dog mushers. It was truly a one of a kind experience! Highly recommend 907 Tours.

We had such a blast with Exposure, we wish we had booked a longer stay with them. The owner Don, was so helpful throughout the entire booking process, and recommended places to see and stay during our time after Exposure. The views of the glacier, the wild life, the planned tours and our amazing guides, all surpassed our expectations. They were awesome! Our guides were professional, knowledgable, friendly and we felt like close friends by the end of the trip. They were able to adjust our experience based on our skill and physical ability levels, which added more excitement to our trip. Our safety was paramount at all times and we had full confidence in their abilities to guide our adventure. Moreover, the food at the camp was great! We were expecting beans and weenies and other cliche camping food, but what we got was some great Alaskan cooking: Fresh Salmon, BBQ chicken, homemade breads and granola, among other things. In addition, while there was a lot of stuff to cover on our daily agenda, there was also a lot of time to relax and unwind. It was the only vacation where I didn't think about work, unless someone asked me about my job. Normally, when we go somewhere we still have home somewhere on the mind, but not here. Finally, this experience didn't seem touristy. After we finished our trip with Exposure, we spent a few days in other parts of Alaska, and the tours we did just weren't the same.
