It is no surprise then that HMV, Virgin Megastores, and that funny one (Zizzaz or something) are struggling for business. The Music MegaStore has had it's day. But... There will always be a place for a shop such as Music @ Les Aldrich. It sells a little bit of everything. CDs, mostly classical and jazz, but some easy listening and popular acts such as Norah Jones or Katie Mehlua. If you want a classical CD, the range here is as good as any CD shop short of the stores on Oxford Street, so definitely good to peruse to find that one you like that goes DUH-Da-DUH-DaDa-DUh.... and if you're not sure what it's called the staff are very knowledgable. Sheet music!!! Yes some of us still get immense pleasure from playing our favourite tunes on ol' Joanna, and not sure about you, other than guitar tabs, I've never found decent sheet music on the internet. Les Aldrich has a great selection for all instruments. Instruments. Ok, if money was no object and you're a serious musician, you'll want to go somewhere with a wider selection. Youngs in York is where I always travel to whenever I buy an instrument. But if you're looking for your first ukelele, or decent quality and value instrument then they have a selection. They come into their own if its an accessory you need. A capo, strings, a mute or similar, again having a wide selection and knowledgable staff. Finally, little musical gifts. The Shopping Liszt, The Chopin board, or those awful tacky busts of Mozart to sit atop your piano presumably. In short, this shop is perfect if you are musical and want to while away some time, or know someone musical and don't know what to get them for Christmas. You'll find something, and at a decentish price. HMV is dead, long live Les Aldrich!

I've got a son who is taking up violin and I will certainly be going back to get him one there. I rarely write reviews (lazy) however it had to be mentioned!

Flashbacks is a pretty basic store selling used cds and dvds. They didn't have Kate Bush (…read moresomething I always look for to determine whether a record store is good) but they did have good prices. I will come back to Flashbacks to buy Little Britain (my favourite show) seasons one and two for 6 pounds! That is like 70% percent of the price or something. Seriously this box set was more than 20 quid. I couldn't care less if it was used. Flashbacks also had other TV series on sale here. If remember rightly I saw some American series here as well, in Uk format obviously. 4 stars for the box set!

On the plus side, they have a listening center, and they'll gladly unshelf a record (the pricier records are removed from their sleeves and kept behind the counter) for you to inspect and listen to. The turntable mat, however, was filthy/hairy. I wouldn't go back, however, because of the prices.

Haven't thought of this place in years but it just popped in my mind so wanted to leave a review…read more Spent a week in London in 2010 and felt I needed to seek out something punk while I was there. Left my group that I was with and took off to the other side of the city and found this place. It was perfect. Spent a bunch of time talking to the staff and some other patrons about punk in the US and the UK and got some great local recommendations from them (though wish someone had recommended Frank Turner to me then - I was practically on his doorstep and now I love him lol). Would love to come back and explore again.

The fact that you can see a Snazzy Boys poster in the photo says it all for me. Found a nice sale bin of 7"s that were buy 2 get 1 free, can't beat that. A good stop after you hit the market (or before).
