When I went to pick up my car at the Peoria Airport, I was told they had no cars. The woman at the desk was rude and did not offer any suggestions. Sort of "tuff luck, Buddy" attitude. This person should not be working with the public in a service related field. This is causing me to miss an important meeting in Joliet for tomorrow. I rent as many as four cars a week for business and have lost all confidence in National. I think it is time to look at the other rental car companies and would suggest you do the same. Terrible. My overall experience with car rental service at the Peoria airport is not good but these folks stand out as being particularly bad.

My company had reserved a compact car, and I was first offered a Kia Soul. I hate that case - it's like driving a cardboard box, and I said as much to the Avis rep. She laughed and agreed, then checked their inventory and offered me a Ford Fusion Hybrid. Fantastic! I signed the paperwork, too the keys and walked out to the lot to find the car. When I found it, the rear was dirty, like the car wash had totally missed it, but I want to concerned about that. I loaded luggage into the trunk and then went to get into the car. I opened the door and was hit with a wave stale cigarette smoke mixed with bad sure freshener - like someone had been smoking in the car and sprayed perfume to cover it up. Yuck! I retrieved my luggage from the trunk and went back into the airport - no way I could drive that car for the week. The nice man who was now at the Avis counter was named Kurt. He was very apologetic about the condition of the car, said he would personally check it out and charge the prior renter a proper cleaning fee to get the car back to condition, stating that was an unacceptable condition for the case to be in. He offered me a Prius as an alternate, and even offered to have it brought up to the terminal door for me. Despite the poor condition of the Fusion, both reps worked to get me into a car that was suitable for me, and I appreciate their willingness to do so. Overall, a minor frustration that was handled well be reps who seemed to actually care about my experience.

When asked to show me said policies were, she couldn't show me where ANYTHING was written (Because she made them up). I've rented from Avis in the past and never experienced anything like this before. I knew exactly what I needed to rent. I asked to speak to the manager (I believe her name was Jessica or Jasmine) and I specifically asked what I need and she stated my flight itinerary, which I had. However, Erin intervened and refuse to rent to me. I waited for almost two hours and saw that I was treated vastly different from the white customers, she didn't make them jump through hoops or ask a million questions. Went to the airport and worked with Jennifer to add the additional driver onto the contract. Jennifer had a great personality and was fun to work with. She was able to add the additional driver with no problems in a timely manner and when we walked out of there, we were laughing and looking forward to our trip (which was fabulous). My next Niece and a group of her friends had reserved a vehicle for their prom several months in advance to find out that their car had mechanical problems at the last minute and there was no backup plan to get them to their dinner and prom. A second recent experience that was disappointing was a ride I had booked for a 4:30 AM trip to PIA I received a text that there was not a driver available. Not sure what's going on there but this has made me hesitant to recommend or book anything in the future.
